“Um...” Jax had no real idea what to say to that comment. He certainly hadn't been angling to seduce Valene when he had asked her for a favour and offered to buy her coffee. Not that he didn't find her attractive, Jackson very much had a wandering eye, but he had considered himself to be still at work and he didn't mess about like that. He wasn't quite sure why Valene had kissed him other than the obvious answer of she had just wanted to, though he felt a little guilty that he had been thinking of kissing her himself just the moment before that. He had not met an angel before, perhaps that was an entirely normal reaction?
He hadn't really been tempted to do more than window-shop since he had met Danviel in the little rooftop café, and after... well what else could possibly compare? Jax liked to flirt, truthfully he was entirely encourageable when he got going, male or female no difference. What's more he loved to admire the scenery so to speak and wasn't shy about it either. But... the feelings that Danviel roused in him were so much more intense than he had known or even imagined. The vampire's mere presence here so close was enough to make him ache to touch him and to be touched.
He moved his body closer to Danviel until they brushed together, his hand sliding naturally into the small of his back. Jax was still grinning, simply pleased that Danviel was here with him, and when Danviel cleared his throat and looked at him he mouthed silently 'Your Jax'. The conciliatory words spoken relieved the slight tension in Jax' stomach and with the small misunderstanding seemingly cleared up he was about to take Danviel's hand when the vampire blurred over to half catch Valene as she stumbled. Jackson looked over at the angel with a worried expression as Danviel seated her again.
He picked up her plate from the table and at mere human speed walked over to where she now sat with Danviel stood over her. He put the plate with the half finished pastry down in front of her again and with a mischievous smile he plucked the file from her weakened grasp. “Uh huh,” he chuckled in response to Danviel. “Can I get a refill on that coffee over here Betty sweetheart?” he called to the server as she came to clear the tables, and he passed her the file, “...an' see she doesn't get that back until she's finished it.” he added with a grin. He gave the angel a genuinely friendly smile "It was a pleasure to meet you Valene."
Leaning back again into Danviel's body as he stepped closer, Jax murmured softly and teasingly to him, “l need a shower.”

She felt Danviel help steady her, and she pulled away as well she didn't want another misunderstanding and her struggle to keep the empathic powers under control was a little draining. She even took the help into the chair and sighed. Putting her head in her hands she stared at the floor. " Thank you, I know you did not have to nor want to do that." Yes, she could feel the emotions around him still. She lowered her voice a little her next words meant for Danviel. " I see it, when you look at him. I like the care that forms on your face. It's nice to see that. I truly am sorry for what happened before, and I know it's not an excuse that you will like but there was no one else to take the shift, and I was needed. " No matter what he had been taught and raised upon she loved everyone equally unconditionally all creations to her were good in some form or fashion, No matter what their sexual orientation or life choices.
Jackson had been a temptation simply because he was a beautiful innocent soul, and she had felt the pull through her empathic ways she now felt horrible for her loss of control and wondered in a way how else she could make it up to the both of them. Thankful for his help when she got into the chair. Her gaze shifted to Jackson then as she cleared her throat a little. Feeling the file plucked from her hands she frowned. " Jackson..." yes he frustrated her, but she also gave him a friendly smile and shook her head. " Please no more worries about me neither of you. Go home. I'm sure Betty will be enough to handle me the old battle axe. It was a pleasure to meet you both. " The taunting tease given to the woman as she childishly stuck her tongue out at Valene and moved to refill her drink. The pastry sat before her causing her to stare at it, but the thought had her frown upon even considering eating it. Her stomach seemed queasy at the thought of the sugar, and she just decided to wait for the coffee.
The drink was brought back to her, and she smiled to the woman who had helped her. Keeping her seat at the table for the time. Her soft laughter came as she heard the conversation between Jackson and Danviel. "Good Night you two have a wonderful evening. " She shifted then sipping the drink as she once more let the two men free their mind of her and return to their own world. Perhaps she would return to the on call room and grab herself a nap as well. Anything that might help with the exhaustion that was wrecking havoc on her system.

Danviel wondered why the angel was portraying herself as a fragile little butterfly. Even the lowest of ranking angels were powerful warriors. They were stronger and faster than humans and rivaled the abilities of Vampires closely. The only way to even kill an angel is with a demon forged weapon. It was perplexing to him. He could understand being weakened by healing someone but this was ridiculous.
"Okaaay..." Danviel said with a puzzled look on his face. She was playing sympathies as far as he could tell. Whatever floats her boat. He simply took his interest off her and focused it soley on his Jax. "I can help you with that." he said playfully and tugged softly at Jackson's shirt. "I better join you in there, just to make sure you have not been weakened by your ordeal." he slipped his arm around Jackson and didn't even bother to say farewell to the angel.
It was a bitterness he could not let go of. He absently rubbed at the cross shaped scar on his chest from his father burning the shape of his crucifix into him to chase out the demon that caused him to prefer the company of men. God, saints and angels meant pain and abandonment. If the angels and saints had not abandoned him and God turned his back on him, he would not have lost his maker...

The atmosphere between Danviel and Valene still seemed a little 'off' and whilst Jackson might be a little naïve or ignorant about a lot of things he wasn't entirely oblivious. He could have dwelled on it but that just wasn't his nature. Whatever the problem was he really didn't want to know right now. If it was something Danviel wanted to talk about later then fine, but otherwise Jackson just wanted to get home and get that shower. He laughed as Danviel pulled at his shirt. “I was counting on it.” he chuckled.
He slid his arm back around Danviel's waist, the better to be as close to him as possible. The ache to be wrapped again in his Danviel's arms was becoming a sweet torture. “I really am fine, I promise.” he murmured softly, leaning his head against the vampire's shoulder to flick at his earlobe with the tip of his tongue. “Just tired of being here.” Jackson turned to look at his lover's face and when his baby blue eyes met Danviel's it was not tiredness that shone in them.
Tugging at Danviel's belt, Jackson started them moving out of the canteen, but they hadn't gotten far down the hallway before Jackson gave up on fighting his instincts and did what he had been wanting to do since Danviel had first arrived. He pressed his body closer to Danviel's and slipping his free hand into the vampire's silken blue-black hair he kissed him hard on the lips, his tongue probing deeply as he sought to chase away the last of the tension that marred Danviel's otherwise perfect form.
Pausing only briefly to catch his breath, Jax whispered against those delectable lips, “I swear that if you keep thinking whatever it is that has you looking unhappy like that, I am gonna go down and worship you right here and now...”

Danviel didn't want Jackson to be sad. There would be no use in telling him what was troubling him right now. Not here. Perhaps it could be saved for pillow talk when Jackson could comfort him when he shared something that caused him so much pain. Here, in public, it was not a good place to share something that would probably smear his face with bloody tears.
"If I stop thinking about it, will you wait until we get home to worship me?" he asked with a grin. He pushed Jackson away from the wall but did not let go. With his arm around him, he led him toward the doors. "Come on, I'll take you home and we can worship eachother." he let his hand fall and slipped his hand into Jackson's back pocket. "I'll send for a car." he wanted to get home as quickly as possible and have Jackson all to himself and prove to his inner voices that he had not lost another that day.

Every day Jack woke, his wound was redder, more swollen and becoming discolored on the edges. He argued with the wizard for three days that he was cursed, not a mutant and that the vampires would not be able to tell he was different unless he told them. It wouldn't be difficult to steal papers or fake them. It wasn't like technology was the same as it had been before except in medical care and weaponry. He needed medical care and he needed it soon. He was sure he wouldn't die but he sure didn't want to go through life without his leg, it would make the chase too difficult.
Finally after several agonizing days of arguing with the nagging voice in his head, the wizard won. The red and purple lines drifting lazily away from the infected wound which he had stitched himself were enough to actually scare him into immediate action. Before going to the hospital, Jack made the wizard promise not to be smug about him giving in, the wizard promised.
By the time he gave in, Jack was feverish and could barely walk. It took him the better part of 3 hours to make the walk to the medical center. Two hours of that was spent in the hot sun, the last hour he walked in the dark until he reached the double doors that lead into the triage department of the only hospital in town.
Slowly the raggedy man crept toward the help desk where nurses were gathered around talking, completely oblivious to the sick man silently approaching the desk. Sweat dripped off his forehead and rolled down his nose, his breathing was shallow and quick, deep circles rimmed his eyes. He nearly fell onto the counter and clung to it. "Pardon me." he tried to say pleasantly in his thick English accent, "But I seem..." he paused to take a breath, "I seem to be..." His eyes rolled back and he slipped form the counter. He turned just in time to put his back to the desk and leaned back on it. "...in need of assistance." he breathed softly. The wound on his thigh had broken open and hot bloody puss seeped into the fabric of his trousers.

Valene let the scene with Danviel, and Jackson roll off her shoulders like water once they were gone. She shifted and leaned her head in her hand. Was she seeking sympathies? No she was actually worn out from the power she had exerted saving the mother and child prior to this day of healing for the others. She had pushed herself to her limits and had been close to passing out. However, the time she took watching them leave drinking her coffee and letting herself regenerate was all she would need for now. Betty knew this and soon as the Vampire and Jackson were gone, she came back out patting Valene on the shoulder. " You should be more careful of yourself Valene." The old woman murmured. Nodding Valene lifted the second cup of coffee to her lips. " Yes, I know I know I made mistakes tonight that I cannot let happen again. I Will be more careful. " She smiled to the woman as she stood finally and embraced her. Her touch intentionally shifted up to cup Betty's face Valene knew she was in pain and stole it from her taking the pain on herself. "I hope you feel better Betty. " With that she turned taking the file of Geof with her. She would see to him later. She had to get back to the ER.
Hurrying down the hall she had received a call over the intercom system set up through the hospital. Sighing she stilled herself and better came back to herself. The night no longer called to her only the souls and pain of those there within the Hospital. Picking up her pace as she traveled down the hall she stopped long enough to put Geoff on her schedule of rounds and patients taking him off of the other healers. Feeling she owed both Danviel and Jackson after her slip of boundaries. Noticing her coat was dirty she stopped by the locker room grabbing a fresh pair of scrubs and changing. Her stethoscope slipped about her neck she headed off down the hall towards the front counter.
Rounding the corner, she saw the man leaning on the counter talking to the admittance nurses. Her brow arched slightly when she noticed he was not doing so well. Shaking her head as she realized she was just standing there kind of gawking at the scene wondering how in the hell, he had made it in on his own. She was finally able to step into motion she moved towards him. Coming to kneel next to him on the floor. " I would say you do." The stench of infection reached her as she glanced towards the rapidly spreading stain on his pants. Wrinkling her nose, she glanced up to the woman leaning over the admittance desk looking down at them. " Donna please put him on my chart. " Turning her attention to Jack "Here let me help you up. " Valene would take his arm gently trying not to cause him any pain or harm and start to help him up as a stretcher was wheeled out to them. "Lean on me Mr..." She didn't have a chart for him yet, or identification, so she was unable to properly address him, for the moment. So she stuck with Mister and helped to guide him up on the stretcher so they could wheel him back.

Jack turned his feverish head and gazed at the source of the voice. She had the musical voice of an ethereal being. He had heard about the presence of the hosts of heaven coming to New Vegas to escape the tragedy of war in heaven, but was this one of them. He looked at her with a blank expression.
"Jack, get up."
Jack blinked everal times before moving. "Oh, oh dear, yes, yes." he muttered nonsensically, "No, no, it's Doctor. Dr. Jack Knight, at your service, my dear." he grunted painfully as he struggled to stand but his tone was cheery as if he was trying to play off the grave situation. Having an aversion to physical contact with women who were...alive, he pulled away from her supporting hands and staggered to the stretcher. "Nothing personal, mind you." he apologized sincerely, "Personal issues. I will try to muddle through."
"I'm terribly sorry to be a bother." He crawled onto the stretcher, using his upper arms. The strength he exhibited was a testament to his upper body strength. "I seem to have contracted some sort of bacterial infection. I had no antibiotics to treat the wound." he explained.

Valene was trying to help him up and to the gurney that had been wheeled out when she felt him pull from her and start to maneuver on his own. A sigh parted her lips as she figured this was going to be a fight to treat the good doctor before her. "Please..." Moving to be behind him as he maneuvered himself towards the gurney. "I don't want you further injuring yourself..." Letting out a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding partially while he had moved himself to the stretcher and up on it. It escaped her with a soft puff of air. " I will try to assist you and get your wound cleaned up and healed." Her smile seemed to make her bright blue eye's glow a little lighter as the angel cast her gaze over the man before her. Something off about him that she couldn't put her finger on it, but he gave her a slight chill that ran down her spine.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Dr. Jack Knight unfortunate under such circumstances. However, I feel fairly confidant that we will get you cleaned up and out of here." Her attention would be drawn by the two nurses who approached. One was male, and he went to the head of the gurney and started to prepare Jack for movement. The other was Donna, who was quickly trying to get his temperature, and other readings for his Triage papers. Finally, she would hand the file to Valene and shuffle off to see to other patients. Leaving the male nurse to help Valene get Jack back into one of the treatment rooms of the ER. " So Dr. Knight might you be able to tell me anything else about your wound that might help to better isolate the bacterial infection?" She marked on the paper as they would start down the hall. " Once in the room I will step out and Gareth, here will help you get on the hospital gown. Then I will come back in, and we can start treatment and cleaning of the wound."
She would go through the motions as they continued down the hall coming to stop before one of the closed sterile rooms. She would move around quickly to open the door for Gareth so that he could pull the gurney and Jack inside. Moving to the side of the room, she opened one of the stock cabinets and removed the larger hospital gowns the men were usually given the gaudy blue, Maroon but now pink design like most hospital gowns seemed a little silly to her whatever happened to plain colors? "Here you go. I will be right outside to give you a chance to get changed." Stressed a little for time as his temperature was a little high she couldn't very well just rip his pants open it wasn't the procedure at least since he was conscious. She would step outside the door and wait until he was ready.

Jack had no problem with nudity. It would not have bothered him in the slightest had she stayed. He did, however, have a problem with putting on a hospital Johnny. If he was going to show off his backside, why not show off the front as well. But he was not going to argue. He never wanted to come to the hospital anyway. He only came there for the Wizard.
"You owe me for this, Wizard." he grumbled.
I know...
"Pardon me?" the nurses assistant asked him as he helped him out of his clothing.
"Oh, nothing Boyo. Don't worry your pretty head about me." Jack remarked back flatly. He didn't like the man. He liked the angel and wanted her to come back.
Don't...
"Don't what?" he asked the Wizard.
You know what, don't start whining and pouting until she comes back.
"Oh shut up..." jack mumbled at his only friend.
"Pardon me?" The assistant inquired again.
Jack sighed and shook his head, "Nothing, now go tell that doctor she can come back in." he snapped and lay back with a heaving sigh of relief that he was able to stop moving. He closed his eyes and waited.

Valene lingered in the hallway, her eyes closed for a moment as she started to hum to herself. No she wasn't feeling weak again she felt a lot better since she had a chance to rest a little and clear her head. Her safe guards were back in place as best as they could be. She hadn't realized the door had opened until the male nurse stepped out.
"Dr. Angiola? I think your patient might be ... delirious."
"Really? Why do you say that?"
"Well I thought he was talking to me. But." Male nurse offers a shrug.
Sigh parting her lips she shook her head. "I'm sure it's fine he's got an infection and in a lot of pain, I would assume no worries. Is he ready?" She waited until he nodded then pushed past him back into the room. The male nurse heard the code blue that went off as she passed by and Valene nodded. " Go on. I can handle this." As she let the male nurse leave, she turned back. Her glowing blue eyes settled on Jack. " Well Dr. Knight let us see what we got going on shall we? " She stopped at the sink first and washed her hands thoroughly before stepping back over to the gurney he rested on now and shifting her hands to the hem of the hospital gown lifting it up, so she could better see the wound to his leg. Gasping as she saw the severity of the wound, and it's leaking puss filled incision; she closed her eyes a moment. " This is horrible. You must be in a lot of pain forgive me for having you move so much. " Her normally warm touch would then cool to the infected heated flesh of his leg as she started to send out soothing healing powers so that she could take some of his pain and work easier.
Turning with her other hand, she opened one of the drawers and pulled out a pair of surgical scissors and various other items setting them on the tray. First, she would have to remove the self done stitches and clean up the wound before she could fully heal him. " How did this happen Dr. Knight if you don't mind me asking." Clear worry and compassion danced on her features as she snipped the first set of stitches and started to remove them slowly. That little tickle of a wiggle would be felt as each end slipped through his skin.

"Pain..." Jack pondered the word and the feeling behind the word. It frightened so many people. Pain did not frighten him. He enjoyed it. It meant he was still alive. After all this time, he was alive! He grinned at the woman, his charming smile that often allowed strange women to leave a bar with him without hesitation. "I like it. It makes me feel alive." he informed her. "I know its odd, but some people need to be reminded, in this devastated world we live in, that we are, indeed alive." he explained to make it sound less creepy.
He cocked his head at her and wrinkled his brow a bit when she began to heal him with her hands. He was about to ask her if she was an angel but her question baffled him. "Are you not a doctor?" He asked her curiously. "It is obviously a wound caused by being stabbed with a long sharp object, such as a knife or dagger." he explained.
Jack, she didn't mean technically, she wants to know how you got stabbed and how it got to be so infected.
A look of realization came over Jacks face. "OH! You mean how did I get stabbed?" he rolled his eyes, "Oh dear me, I thought you meant the technical cause. Yes, yes, I was..." he paused, looking for the right words.
mugged...
"...Yes, yes, mugged. I was mugged and the fiend stabbed me." he explained. "I tried to stitch it myself because, quite honestly, I was bleeding to death. The conditions were less than sanitary and I suppose the wound was not properly cleaned." he explained in his thick accent. "Oi, are you a doctor or an angel? I heard there were angels here. Are you one of them?"

She smiled as she listened to what Jack spoke of nodding his words a little cathartic to her. As a guardian angel she lived his words quite literally a couple of times. As well as some times she was not supposed to. "I would agree. Pain does let you know your alive and being alive is better than being dead, especially after one of the options is to be walking around chewing on someone's face. Somehow I'm sure your knife wound is more sanitary even then." As she started to clean up his wound her eyes glowed slightly. Her fingers trailed around the edge of his wound leaving the glowing trail on his skin the healing, soothing and calm. "I've seen a lot of people lately think that the world is safe, some forget the existent dangers that are out there. You state many very true, thoughtful and unimaginary facts Dr. Knight. " Glancing to his smile she eased. Yes, the smile seemed to smooth away the shiver and dread she felt from him before, and she arched a brow slightly at his charming smile. Now that he wasn't such a hostile patient she tried to figure out why he had alarmed her so in the past. Something about him seemed familiar she just couldn't find a valid reason for her worry about him in the past.
When his first response seemed baffled and curious to her questions she laughed it off a little. "Yes. Yes, I know..." He cut her off though with his next response as it clicked in his mind the question she had been previously asking. Her smile pulled at her full lips. " That is exactly what I meant. " Hearing about his mugging her frown formed and the clear look of worry took hold. " Oh dear I'm so sorry to hear that. " The wound taking on a now healthier look as she glanced back to it and started to slowly work the healing from the inside out. " Well I will get you taken good care." Her glowing eyes showed a sadness as she looked at her work. " I hate to think after all this time things like that still happen. Some baser instincts I guess never really change in humans."
Her gaze shifted up as she heard him ask her if she was a doctor or an angel. " I am an angel. Yes, there are some here I'm one of the healers. Would you prefer a doctor and stitches? I could retrieve one for you if you wish. " She stopped what she was doing and the healing seemed to hold. Her gaze shifted to him curiously as she spoke a little bewildered. " Am I the first one you have ever met?" She was curious to know and as to how that could be as she could feel the others of her kind within the area surely. However, the thought was forgotten as she caught his accent unable to place it and why it seemed a little out of place on a human, but she found she liked the sound. Her fingers trailing now over a half healed wound the skin visibly able to be seen knitting its self together as she would continue to work unless he said otherwise. Breaking her gaze from his the glowing brilliant blues followed the work of her hands and fingers.

Jack was in awe. He had never met an angel. Perhaps they felt his evil core and moved along before they saw him. It was one reason he knew he was evil. He had certainly seen an demon, he merely grinned and walked away. Perhaps the wizard was a demon and the demon knew his kin.
I’m not a demon
Jack stared at the angel as she healed him. He reached out and touched her cheek, ever so gently with the tips of his fingers, his eyes filled with wonder. .
“Today an angel touched my face with a feathery caress, And as I felt that tender stroke, I knew that I was blessed. Before the touch, my heart was filled with pain and nameless fear, But now I'm calmed because I know my angel friend is near. For all these years I've heard of them these guardians of our way But I was just too caught up in the struggles of the day. Oh, yes, I liked the stories of the miracles they brought, But they really were just stories! At least, that's what I thought. I always stayed so busy with the toils of daily life; I thought that I was strong enough To handle any strife. And then one night a stranger came, an intruder in my space, And suddenly I knew a danger I had never had to face. And then the stranger ran away, And left me a wounded soul How could I let these feelings go? Would I ever again be whole? There, in the stillness of the hour, as healing light came through, I simply set the anger free — here was nothing else to do. And then, the angel touched my face just a stroke upon my brow — As if to say, "I'm always near. Yes, Dear, you know that now." Today an angel touched my face with a feathery caress And as I felt that tender stroke, I knew that I was blessed.
Oh brother!
Jack realized he was touching a woman and jerked his hand away. “S..sorry…I don’t know what got into me.” He stammered and blushed.

When Jack never responded to her question she simply continued on healing him. Her fingers danced over the wound lightly as she coaxed the flesh to knit and heal anew seamlessly sealing the scar. The faint tint of pink started to form the last puckered remnants of healing skin when he touched her face. There was something about Jack, but she wasn't sure what it was. It felt familiar like something from her past that set off a slight warning but, there was the age-old feeling to love everything and everyone no matter what that always seemed to guide Valene more strongly than it did anything else. It even had her questioning why the war was going on. The touch of his hand had her pause the healing power still flowed, but she glanced up looking at him. Bewildered at the way he seemed dazed and in wonder with her. His words danced about her as he spoke the poetry. Lips parted slightly she blinked. What in the world? Curiosity and questions danced in her eyes as she kept quiet letting him speak. Yes for once Valene was completely baffled.
When the spell was broken, and he had pulled back from her stammering and blushing. She offered him the sweetest most caring smile. Finishing the healing of his injuries, she shifted her warm touch from his leg to his face and brushed his cheek. " No worries it's alright. That was beautiful. Did you make it up, write it or is it something you remembered?" The gentle caress to Jack's face was warm and soothing as she finally lowered her hand and started to turn to gather up some of the items to have them prepared for sanitization. " You need not apologize. You did nothing to harm me. All is forgiven. " She was not going to reprimand him and for the time she knew nothing of his past or personal life, so she did not feel threatened. " May I call you Jack? Dr. Knight seems a bit formal I feel as if you should be the one working the procedure and not me. " Soft laughter slipped past her lips as she leaned out quickly snagging a nurse. Handing her the paperwork so Jack could be freed up if he wished.
She kept her distance for now. Not because she wanted to but because Valene had already had one slip up this night, and she was being careful with her empathic tendrils creeping out into the waves seeing how Jack was feeling she spoke. " Did you wish to speak with me more? Have any questions? " Finally, she moved back starting to check his vitals so that she was sure she had cleared his infection, and he would no longer be sick. Just going over her work and double checking herself.
