Jaycen looked up at the angel who smiled back at him, “You are not losing your mind.” He said softly, “I just move very fast and I have to keep you breathing.” He gave the man a wink, “We wouldn’t want the private part of our conversation broadcast to the world. Now relax. We’ll get those thorns out.” The angel said with a wink.
Jaycen didn’t understand the angel’s interest in him but he had to tell him something. “There’s an angel… he was travelling here…Castiel… wants to find more of you. Take you back to Heaven.” He informed the godlike man. If he heard what he said, he made no indication, no facial changes, nothing. “Did you hear me?” he asked.
“Yes, I heard you, now rest.” The angel replied softly. “Your brother is here.”
Jaycen’s eyes widened. “Tommy!” he shouted but weakly. He began trying to get up but one of his arms was like stone, “TOMMY!!” he shouted again. The angel placed his hands on his chest, “Calm yourself, he heard you the first time. Be still or the poison will kill you.” He warned him.
Jaycen fell back, breathing deeply as the angel was making him do so. “Where’s My… Lisa?” there, he did it again. Lucky thing it sounded like he said she was his. “I need my wife and my brother.” He said as he felt a needle prick his arm and he felt a sudden feeling of total calm and a pale man had his face in front of his. “Mr. Winchester. I’m Dr. White and I am going to take the thorns out now, I need you to be very still.” Jaycen blinked up at him. He felt like he was floating on a cloud. “Sssure…” he slurred. He rolled his eyes and fought to keep his mind clear but was quickly losing the battle.

“Listen. Tommy, you can trust me. I’m Lisa. I’m Dean’s wife.” She didn’t say much else, simply giving Tommy a small smile. He seemed smart, thought not too bright to leave his brother and walk straight into New Vegas without backup. Myka nodded, turning again as she heard Jaycen’s voice calling again. “He’s going to totally ruin cover with his mindless screaming.”
She shook her head quickly in reprimand, but her heart warmed. At least he was alive. Myka looked down to the clipboard and the deathgrip she had on it. Damn. That Remington man sure did a number on her already. Then again, having someone you could trust often did that to her. A nurse stood in their way and Myka fixed the woman with a firm look.
“I’m Lisa Winchester and this is his brother. We need to see him.” The woman almost backed away from Myka’s intimidating gaze and waved them through. When Myka first saw Jaycen laying on the table, groggy and half out of it, her stomach dropped. This had been a similar scene she had come upon when her Grandfather had been dying. Back then, she had raced to him, pulling him in her arms as one hand staunched the flow of his blood. She shook her head, jumping to Jaycen’s side as she shot Tommy a look.
“Is he okay? What can I do?” She looked up to the angel and then to the doctor.

Thomas snapped his attention back to the woman a little irked that she had called him Tommy, not just because that was only barely tolerated when used by Jaycen but more so because there were eyes and ears in this place that might grow suspicious with her having just asked if his name was Sam. It was a sloppy mistake on her part and though he could understand how she might slip up under distress he had to question whether she was new to all this or not and that was never a good thing. He didn’t flinch at the name change though figuring that if anyone questioned it he could just say it was his middle name. Still, the cover seemed very unstable under these circumstance, her telling him that she was his brother’s wife when that should have been something that he should have known previous to now. It would have been better if she kept quiet and just let him wonder. Thomas would have played along with whatever story they had spun to get into the city without question or indication of being oblivious. Where had Jaycen come across this one?
Hearing Jaycen call out to him Thomas went to move in the direction of his voice but paused to look back down at this Lisa woman, whom he doubted was her real name. His voice was low; trying to be as kind as possible but his temper wasn’t too in check while he was worried about his brother. ”If you aren’t careful you might too. Don’t call me Tommy.” He was being more than a little defensive but this was his brother’s life in jeopardy here and he wasn’t going to risk that with someone that he didn’t know. That wasn’t the way that Thomas operated. He wanted to believe that she was there to help and had looked after his brother but there was a mental block at the moment that was keeping him from being all that coherent to the good she might have done. In retrospect he would apologize for his behavior but right now he wasn’t concerned about offended her, he just wanted to get to his brother.
She was taking control with the nurse, which Thomas could respect though he wasn’t sure about her yet from what he had seen so far. He was surprised that Jaycen had let her come along in the first place, unless she had given him no choice but to tag along. Not knowing what the deal was his mind didn’t indulge in the curiosity for but a moment, instead pushing through the doors that would lead to his brother. There was a lump in his throat that no matter how hard Thomas swallowed it wouldn’t go down, his mouth was dry, hands a little bit shaky from the adrenaline that was still pumping through his system from running here and then the worry that had consumed him. Seeing Jaycen laying there with the angel nearby the only thought in his mind was the repeated plea to please let his brother be alright.
Lisa’s voice cut through his prayers though knitting his brow at the question. Of course someone concerned would want to do something but how was it that someone who actually knew Jaycen, since he had been born versus this random stranger could contain themselves and use some common sense that the doctor and angel would take care of it rather than anything that she might have done. Besides that they wouldn’t let them near Jaycen while they were working, it would just hinder them working. Rather than scolding her though Thomas turned to Lisa and put a comforting hand on her shoulder biting back his misplaced anger realizing that it wasn’t her fault and that he shouldn’t take things out on her. A brother-in-law would soothe in this situation and so that’s what Thomas would do. ”He’s in good hands. We just need to be here for Dean.” Looking back to his brother he gave a nod of his head to the doctor and angel, a silent thanks for their help before turning his gaze to Jaycen his hand still on Lisa’s shoulder.

Jaycen realized he had been shouting for Tommy when he should have been shouting for Sam. In his drugged state, panic filled his eyes. “Their gonna get us.” He muttered, “Lemme go…” he demanded weakly. He tried to get up but one arm felt like stone and was completely paralyzed, the other was now being held tightly by the angel. “Relax, Mr. Winchester. You’re brother Sam is here. We all heard you calling for… Sam.” He enuinciated. It wasn’t really a lie since Thomas did go by Sam from time to time. Not to mention, he made sure the people in that room all thought they heard him say ‘Sammy’.
“Come, Sam…Lisa. You may stand at his head, keep him calm, this is very delicate.” The angel called to the other two. “Sammy…” Jaycen whimpered, “You lef’ me behind.” His eyes searched for his brother but everything seemed to me rocking on a boat and he felt like he was falling, even though he was lying down. “Oh god I’m going to be sick.” He moaned as his stomach lurched. “Did they…give me…Dilauded?” He asked as his face turned green. “Oh god…Sam…Dilauded.” The last time they gave him that, he nearly died. Jaycen was hypersensitive to pain killers. “Epi…epi…neph…oh god.”
The angel looked uncertain then looked at the Doctor, “You didn’t use that did you?” The Doctor paused what he was doing and looked at the angel, blinking. “We always use Dilauded for pain. It helps calm the patient.”
“Sam… help.” Jaycen begged. He knew Thomas would know what to do and that he would know there was not much time. He also knew Thomas carried an epi pen he got from the medics in Haven in case Jaycen got stung by a bee. If the doctors didn’t get him some epinephrine, he knew Tommy would.

Myka felt the familiar burn of tears just beneath her eyes. This couldn’t be happening. For Myka, this was her fear. To be powerless when someone needed her. She wasn’t a doctor, an angel or a brother. She was the outsider. Without a monster to kill or a gun to clean, Myka was a bookend without a mate. Useless. She turned to Sam, a heaviness in her heart as she tried to echo Jaycen’s plea for help.
What good was a warrior that froze at the first sign of trouble? Myka’s own head was filled with the terrifying memories of being alone that first year. Sam would go through that. What am I thinking?! I don’t even know these guys! “What’s wrong with him? Is he talking about epinephrine?” She had picked up a few things about caring for wounds that first year. Nothing like breaking your leg 10 miles out of the last encampment and having your horse run off to get you thinking about field medicine.
Myka knew epinephrine, or one of it’s forms, was found naturally as well as synthetically. However, as she watched the nervous face of the doctor, she couldn’t remember that adrenaline was the easiest form. And even if she would have remembered that fact, she couldn’t figure out the best way to get his heart pumping. She quickly stepped out of Thomas’ way, putting him in his rightful role as brother and companion and setting herself apart.

Thomas didn’t hesitate to step up to his brother as the angel had suggested. Being so close to the vampire doctor didn’t settle too well in his stomach but at least he knew that in this particular instance there was no harm being done to Jaycen. It was a comfort that Thomas continued to repeat in his mind, a constant loop of telling himself that everything would be okay. Jaycen was strong, they had been through worse and with the tech that these guys had here the likelihood of his brother not pulling through was very slim. He did feel guilty for having left Jaycen behind and it resulting as it did, but it wasn’t like this had been the first time he had taken off to do a job on his own. Thomas was a grown man he didn’t need Jaycen’s supervision anymore but apparently Jaycen still needed his. ”I know. I’m sorry.” It was a small comfort but the larger one came with Jaycen being able to see that he was fine, came out without even so much as a scratch.
Just at the mention of Jaycen having been given Dilauded Thomas stiffened. It was a common pain killer amongst hospitals and considering they wouldn’t have had a file on his brother they wouldn’t have known any better. Thomas waited for confirmation before he made his move. He was sort of eating his words about being in good hands but then he had only meant it on the base level of Jaycen being treated by professionals, especially the angel. Thomas hadn’t had much time to be in awe of the magnificent angel but there was something about them, maybe it was Jaycen’s stories about what his mother used to say to him, that had Thomas so enamored by them. He had often wondered if their mother had said the same thing to him when he was a baby, maybe as she kissed him goodnight. It hadn’t been a topic that they had ever discussed though.
He kept the epipen in his bag, which it was a bit of a risk opening it up at the moment with their current company considering it had their family journal, some weapons and other questionable items in it that might raise suspicion but Thomas tried not to think about that. He couldn’t afford to worry about it with his brother’s life at stake now. Thomas slung his bag off his shoulder rummaging his hand in it to blindly retrieve what he was looking for, luckily avoiding doing anything more than barely nicking his finger on a blade and popped the top off the syringe moving over to Jaycen and injecting him with the concentrated dose of adrenaline.

Jaycen had enough of the stuff in his system to make him very groggy. He could feel himself slipping form reality. "No one said anything about allergies." the doctor looked up at Myka, "Did you know about this?" he scolded but not in a mean way, "Let me guess, newlyweds." He gasped and stepped back as Thomas lept forward with the epipen gripped in his hand. The doctor slammed a hand over his chest and dove away and two nurses screamed.
"Jesus man! I thought you were trying to stake me!" the vampire exclaimed, still holding his hand over his chest. "I was just about to call for adrenaline...tell me that was epinephrine. The amount please? Good god, did you think I would just let him die? We never let a human die if we can help it." The doctor scolded Thomas and moved back to check Jaycen. "I need to get this last thorn out or a reaction to the medication is the last thing we will have to worry about." he grumbled, giving Thomas a sideways look.
The angel looked stoic, not moving from his place and letting the others deal with the drama, he was only there to make Jaycen breathe and to cure the damage once the thorns were out.
By that time Jaycen had already passed out but his vitals were stable according to the machines and the alarms being silent. He didn't even flinch as the scalpal sliced deep into his skin to give the doctor better access to the last thorn. It resembled that old game of "Operation" as he grasped it carefully with the tweezers and pulled. Just when he thought he had it clear, the thing snapped in two and a drop of poison dripped from it. With lightening speed the vampire doctor had a tongue depresser perched under it just in time to catch it. "That was close." he breathed as he removed the last of the risk. He looked at the angel, "He's all yours now. And thank you for your assistance, Archer. I'm glad you came in when you did. He might not have made it." Then he game Thomas a guarded look and blurred out of the room, followed by the nurses.
"Do not fear for Jaycen, you Thomas, I have guarded over him from birth so that he can keep you safe." the angel murmured and began to heal the damage done by the poison.

Myka was all kinds of shook up. New Vegas was obviously a busier place than she'd been in a long, long time. As the doctor had screamed and the nurses dived, Myka had put herself at Jaycen's head as if to shield him when shit got crazy. Instead, the doctor had flown back into his human saving mode and only scolded Thomas. Personally, Myka was glad Thomas reacted as quickly as he did. She breathed a little easier with the angel, Archer, there. Thomas seemed brooding and temperamental, a bit like a teenager. Myka bit her bottom lip, trying not to laugh as one hand reached down to gently caress Jaycen's forehead absently.
"Newlyweds. Yes. I haven't quite learned all the important things yet." She spoke up just before the physician and his nurses left. She had so much to say, but now was not the time for laying out her heart in the lair of beasts. Her eyes were guarded. She was not in a place where she felt like what she said or cared for mattered. She wasn't family, nor a majestic and handsome angel. She was an outsider of the outsiders and a hunter. At least she could help.
She smiled to the angel, bowing her head just a bit before letting her lilting voice spill out. "Thank you." She didn't bother to explain or continue on. She knew about angels and what power they harnessed. Her grandfather's journal had been thick with their works, his own personal obsession. That obsession had spilled onto her, and the tiny silver chain that wrapped around her left wrist held two delicate silver wings as charms. The chain was once the brightest of metals, but now lay tarnished from hard living. Although Myka didn't see many angels until now, she still tried to keep her faith alive by their memory. Now, in the room with Jaycen, Thomas and Archer, she felt so tiny in a room of heroes.

Diving in like some Kamikaze might not have been the smartest move that Thomas had ever pulled off but he was only human. He had been beside himself with worry despite the external calm that he had been trying to reassure Myka with as well as himself, a little bit, maybe. But given the opportunity to have an impact, to do something for his brother, Thomas had leaped at it and literally. It did have him wondering whether attacks on vampires happened at the hospital often or if it was the paranoia of that particular doctor. For all he knew he just had been viewed as intimidating since the moment he had walked through that door causing the vampire to heed extra caution. Thomas wouldn’t have done anything to the creature under these circumstances. He was self-righteous but he wasn’t ungrateful.
”Apologies. No, I didn’t think that it was merely impulse.” Thomas explained stepping back away to give the doctor room to maneuver. ”0.5mg. dosage.” It was a standard dose and the same thing that Thomas had used on Jaycen before but Thomas didn’t go into detail on that. He didn’t think it was necessary to do so and would have only served as a distraction from what, and fate would prove the doctor’s focus being needed soon after, was already on hand. That last thorn was an issue that needed to be handled but Thomas had stepped in and done what he, at the time, thought was necessary. He realized that it did make him a hypocrite for having told Myka to let them handle it but that wasn’t really a concern of his either. Jaycen was his brother and making sure he was alright was his job, Myka, she was just some stranger to him for the time being.
Everything seemed to slow, time itself even, as the doctor worked on getting out that last thorn, hearing the faint sound of it snapping and seeing only a partial thorn removed Thomas’ heart skipped a beat with anticipation. The moment stung, hanging in midair and dangling in front of his face but Jaycen would be fine. ’Thank you.” Thomas thanked the doctor before he hurried out of the room despite the wary look that he had received. The angel drew Thomas’ attention and he gave it to him fully. He wondered why Jaycen needed to keep him safe in the first place. From what and why couldn’t he take care of himself? Family took care of each other to begin with. His father had always told Jaycen to take care of him but Thomas had just as much reason and desire to take care of his brother too. ”Thank you too.” Speaking to the angel was quite the experience for Thomas and he cherished the moment. Maybe he should have been asking why out loud, seeking answers or even demanding them but things came to the surface when they were meant to, right?

Archer could tell by the set of the man’s face that Thomas did not understand. The father had chosen not to tell them. He had made the father a promise long ago and he had kept it. He continued healing Jaycen and was pleased to feel his body finally relaxing and going back to normal. “You do not understand, Thomas.” He said softly, not looking at him. “An angel gave his life for you, to save you from a demon and to spare your father’s life.” He informed him. “Your father made a promise to exact revenge on that demon for taking my brother’s life and I, in return promised to watch over you in my brothers stead.” His hands stopped glowing and he turned and looked at Thomas, “But I cannot watch you both if you are not close to him. This is why your father made him promise to take care of you, so I could watch over you as well.”
The angel moved around the bed Jaycen was laying on. “You must understand. I have never seen a boy raise another boy from infancy and have him come out so strong and healthy, knowing right from wrong and always chosing the right thing to do. Except, stay close to the one whose mission in life is to fulfill a promise he made to a man who has lost sight of the most important thing in the world, his children.” He laid a hand on Thomas’s shoulder, “Don’t you see, by running away from him, you take away his purpose in life and my ability to guard over you. You lead with your head, you are the smart one, but he leads with his heart, guading over you with all the ferocity of a mother bear in winter. The light of love that he carries in his heart for you in his heart is a beacon for me. He is the easiest of my wards to feel and to find because of it.” He smiled softly, “Don’t you see, I need you to watch over him so that I can watch over you.”
Archer turned to Myka, still smiling. “And you, do you think you happened upon him by fate?” he asked and chuckled softly, “A man with this much love to give, needs a place to put it. And your guardian, my eternal companion and lover, feels that you need the kind of love he can give you. I agree, you will not know the suffering of loss again as long as you are with a man who is watched over by me, Michael, the Archangel.” His head snapped up and he looked toward the door. “You would lead the lion to the lambs, John?” he scolded. “I am keeping my promise, your boys are fine. Be gone before you deliver your son up for sacrifice!” The face of John Remington could be seen for only a split second before there was a crash and the sound of running feet. Archer moved to grab Thomas’s arm before he could follow.
“Listen to me. You think your father is pursuing the demon that killed your mother.” He spoke sharply, his eyes intense. “It is quite the opposite. That demon wants you and your father has been leading him away.” He held tightly to Thomas’s arm. “You must not continue looking for him or it will mean death for all of you. When the time is right, the demon will find you and you will need your brother for the final battle. It will take both of you to defeat him. Only then can you be reunited as a family.” He let go of Thomas and stepped away, “The hour is almost at hand. I must inform the others.” He stated then disappeared.
Jaycen stirred and groaned as his eyes opened. He looked up at Thomas and smiled. “Hey Tommy. How’s it going?” he murmured then groaned again as he turned on his side, trying to sit up. “God, I feel like I was hit by a truck.” His hand went to the place where the thorns had been and found only a freshly healed scar marked in a curious design, “What happened?” he rasped.
