((Skipping Ariana))
Everyone knew by now that the recent events surrounding Niko had left him severely visually impaired. Just exactly how bad his condition now was had become something of a mater of conjecture amongst the troops. The fact that he was here now prepared as always to lead from the front, well it was setting a lot of minds at rest. Jericho however wasn't so gullible. He didn't waste his breath indulging in idle gossip, but he did pay attention.
Niko wasn't blind as some had begun to whisper, and he was better than he had been a day or two back but he was far from alright. Jericho could barely even imagine the kind of courage that it must take for the Admiral to be leading this raid. Jericho's opinions on people were as changeable as the wind but right now he had nothing but admiration for Niko and he wondered who the stoic Admiral had in mind to be his messenger.
If the answer to Niko's request was “No”, and Jericho did always look on the dark side of things, then it was unlikely the messenger would be returning to deliver it. When they got to the basin he would see he supposed. If Niko was going to ask for volunteers... he glanced over at his brother; would Sinjon let him volunteer to go alone? Would Niko even trust him to?
The basin was a good place for them to start from anyway. It would bring them up against the city coming out of the sun, a small advantage but the needed every one they could scrape up. He couldn't help but see and plan for this as a raid rather than a negotiation. If it turned out to be a talking affair then there would be nothing for him to do at all, that was Niko's show.
Nudging his horse forward he fell in alongside Niko and the other generals as the ragtag army began to move out. Jericho was still confused over the whole promotion business but when the shit hit the fan at least he knew he would be where he needed to be – right in the middle of it!
