Beau was frightened of the house but Lizzy had not been frightened so he tentatively eased his way in. Before the door could close, two flashes of white zipped past him, swung around and ducked under his wings, clinging to his inside feathers. It didn't startle him one bit since he was used to them hiding in his wings when he was in an unsure situation.
The other eagles landed outside the door and chirped in distress, fluttering their wings and rocking from foot to foot. Beau knew they would wait there until he came out but for now, he had Ama and Apa if he needed them.
Beau recoiled slightly when the old woman approached him but then he saw her face and his face lit up. "Yous a gramma!" he exclaimed cheerfully. "Yous Boo's frin." he would always count a grandmother as a friend. Her request to see his wounded feet was another matter. He was suddenly stricken with the fear that this would hurt very badly on his most grievously injured foot so he pulled it back and tucked it behind the one with the thorn in it. He offered her the one that simply needed the thorn removed and grinned sheepishly. Ama dropped down from behind his wing and stood defensively in front of the badly injured talon. Apa dropped down behind her, grabbed the filthy bandage and pulled it off by backing up towards the door.
Beau winced painfully as his cracked and infected talon was exposed. He obviously would need the wound to be opened and drained of infection and maybe even have part of the talon cut away. It had been injured for a long time so it had closed up with dirt and grime inside. The color was several alarming shades of red and purple, oozing blood at the places that the infection had opened back up.It would be a miracle if that little toe didn't have to be removed altogether.
Ama let out an indignant screech and hopped after him. She snatched the bandage, brought it back and laid it over the talon then looked at Gran like "So there."
Apa hopped back over and snatched the bandage again and flapped across the floor and into the next room with it. Ama shrieked her fury at him but did not leave Beau. A moment later, Apa strutted back into the room without the bandage, looking smug. He leaped up into Beau's lap and stared at the old woman as if to say, "Well?"
Beau let out a laugh, "Is funny! Ama n Apa is funny." his pure and innocent delight showed in his face as he smiled at Gran with childlike wonder. "Come Ama." he patted his shoulder which she immediately flew up to and stared at Gran. Beau reached up and stroked her gently, "Is a Gramma, see not hurts Boo. Be good." he cooed at her. She closed her eyes and leaned into his hand, trusting him with abandon. With his other hand he stroked Apa who was still looking mighty smug.
Once again, Beau offered the less hurt of his two feet to Gran, he was glad he had cleaned his feet at the Sanctuary. "Is stickeeeer." he said carefully.

Elizabeth gave Gran a quick nod, looking back at Boo she offered him a smile. "I'll get some cookies and milk for us. You'll be all better soon." with that said she walked through the door way she'd fallen in and quickly started to pile a handful of different cookies that were available. Sugar cookies, Scotch shortbread, Gingersnaps and Lemony snickets. These were Lizzy's favorites. Gran shaped them into little wedges and sprinkled lemon flavored sugar on top. They were delicious.
Ruby watched the young man and noticed the small racket the birds were making at the door. When two of them came into the kitchen she watched them, afraid that they were after him. Her fear was soon put to rest as the scene in front of her unfolded. They were guardians of a sort to him. She came to the conclusion that they were guardians of a sort to the young man. Ruby wondered just where had Elizabeth been that she met Boo. That girl and her sneaking was going to get herself in a heap of trouble she was not ready for one of these days.
"That's right Boo, I'm a friend. I see your friends are mighty worried about your injuries." Her voice was soft and kind as she shook her head with a smile as the one eagle that had stolen the bandage looked back at her expectantly. Giving the eagle a nod of reassurance she turned her attentions back to Boo. She'd caught a glance of the injured foot and was not sure she could do much to help. That might be beyond her knowledge.
"I'd like if you could sit down here for me on this stool and we'll see about getting that pesky sticker out of your foot. They are very protective aren't they." she said as she pulled the stool out for him to sit and then moved off to get the old battered metal military first aid box that she had. It was one of the few things that had been salvaged for her from one of her tenants. She kept it well stocked for little emergencies."These are to help me get you all better," Gran explained to him; as she opened the box and pulled out a small bottle of rubbing alcohol and some simple cotton cloths that were for bandaging. As well as a pair of tweezers.
"So tell me about Ama and Apa Boo." She said as she uncapped the bottle and poured a little of the alcohol onto one of the cloths and rubbed it over the tips of the tweezers. Setting them aside the knelt down in front of Boo and gently took his foot with the sticker in it. " I'm just going to get this out and then we will look at that other foot. Alright." She talked while working and as gently as she could, eased the splinter from his foot. After it was out she wiped his foot with the alcohol cloth to make sure it would be sanitized. Knowing it might sting a little she blew gently on his foot. It didn't bleed so that was good it had not been in very deep. There were no signs of any of it remaining in his foot either.
Lizzy came in just as Gran was finishing up getting the sticker out and she moved over to Boo's side and held out the plate of cookies to him. "These are the my favorites, but I brought some others too so you can try them." she said pointing to the little wedge shaped cookies that were the Lemony Snickets. "Oh I forgot the milk." she muttered and placed the plate on the counter next to Boo. "Would you like some milk or maybe water?" she asked him, unsure of which he would rather.
"Lizzy could you get me the large bowl from the shelf, and fill it with some warm water. Boo, I'm going to have to see the other foot now. I promise to be gentle and do my best not to hurt you. I need to see it so I can help make your hurts all better." she spoke gently not wanting to upset the young man. She would not attempt to touch his foot until he let her. With a hurt that bad it was best not to force things.
"Sure Gran." Lizzy said and hurried over to the other side of the kitchen and grabbed the bowl and began to fill it with water from the deep sink. She bit the inside of her lip as she looked back at Boo. His foot was really bad, she'd never seen anything like it before.

Beau winced as the alcohol stung his foot. The splinter only hurt when he stepped on it because it was just long enough to go through the thick calouses on his feet. there were probably several small ones in there that he never even felt. "Wait, see sarp, cutcho." he warned her of how sharp his talons were. He could rip into the head of an animal or a zombie without much effort. "Car-fil" he hoped he had the word for 'careful' correct. "Hurchoo" he added. Then, clear as day, as if he had a strong knowlege of the english language, he said, "The harpy eagle is a fierce hunter. They can quickly fly through the tropical rainforest and snatch a sloth right off of a tree with its enormous talons. These eagles are giants that prey on such large mammals as deer and monkeys, using the huge, powerful, razor sharp, hooked talons on their feet." His voice was slightly different than his own as if he was playing a recording that was logged in his brain, a recording of his father teaching a class... "Deyz Boo frinds." he informed Gran. He was not really understanding everything they said but he was catching enough. "Sow me water and eats. Boo like eats good." He leaned his face into Ama and she nuzzled him. "Is par-ints." he added, "Ol' man sez." He remembered when the old man by the water hole referred to the eagle couple as his parents. Even if they weren't to begin with, they sure took up the job for the people who had loved and raised them. His eyes followed the splinter as it was discarged before he looked back at Gran with a pained look, "Hur me..." he pouted. He knew it was going to hurt, and probably pretty bad. Beau looked at Lizzy when she came back inside and watched her put the plate down. He picked up one of the wedge shaped one and stuffed it in his mouth, quickly followed by three more, barely chewing them. He didn't get food as often as he wanted and the apples from this morning had done little to fill his empty belly. The whole time he tried to hide his bad foot behind the good one. He had no idea what milk was but he was sure he was about to find out. Ama and Apa hopped down onto the floor and nudged his foot toward Gran. They knew what doctors did and to them, Gran had a doctors tools so she was a doctor to help Boo. When Beau tried to pull his foot back farther, Apa gave his heel a nip causing him to move his foot back forward. "Apa! No nice." he pouted but he held the foot out so Gran could look at it. "Two!" he answered, not quite sure what he was saying but he had to give her an answer that meant he wanted both but he wasn't sure what word to use. From the looks of Beau's foot, his talon had cracked just above the quick when his toe was severely cut by a zombie's sharp nails. Infection had set in. If the infection could be drained and the cut cleaned, he would probably not lose the toe or the talon. Beau closed his eyes and turned his head. Ama flew back up to his shoulder to comfort him with calming chirps and coo's.

Gran was as gentle as she could be and nodded as Boo warned her of his talons. They were rather lethal looking. Smiling she looked back at him, "It will be better once I'm done." taking care she resumed working a second sliver of wood out. Her hands stilled and she looked up at him; eyes wide in a bit of shock. He spoke quiet well but there was just something off. As he reverted to what she was now realizing was a secondary speech habit she gave him a warm smile. He must have been alone for a long while, she figured. Best to ask though to make sure. She would take care of him and get him healed up in no time.
"Boo? Have you been alone long?" She asked as he proceeded to gobble up the cookies giving Elizabeth a smile. "Perhaps he would like something a little more filling, there is some fixen's for some sandwiches," she told her. If she could get the girl busy with something else it would help.
Lizzy was just standing there looking rather gobsmacked that Boo could speak so, so well. She really had not put much thought about his speech till now. Her mouth snapped shut and she nodded as Gran instructed her to make some sandwiches. Her own tummy gave a little tremble. Lunch would be better then just cookies. "Alright."
She watched patiently as the eagles gave Boo a hard time over his other talon. They were much like parents to the boy. "Yes, they are good parents." she confirmed with a nod as she spoke slowly. "Come now. I will be very gentle." She added and held out her hand for him to raise his foot into. It would take trust on his part, as his birds chirped and cooed she waited.
With great care and gentleness she took the proffered talons and cupped the now luke warm water over it a few times. Some of the grime fell away and left her with a better idea what best to do. She would need to reopen the wound in order to drain away the infection. "Boo, I need to cut this a little to get the bad out. It is going to hurt a little more before it gets better." She told him slowly so he would understand and not be frightened.
Lizzy heard that part and came up next to Boo giggling a little as one of the birds tail feathers brushed her cheek. She took his hand and gave it a bit of a squeeze. "It will be alright Boo. You can squeeze my hand if it hurts." She told him softly. Adam had let her do that the one time she had gotten glass stuck in her finger. It was not the same but it had made her feel better to hold on to her brother, so she figured Boo would feel better too. She had left the sandwiches on the side table, not wanting to eat until Gran could make Boo's foot better.

When she asked him how long he had been alone, he didn’t know how to tell her in the reference of time because he had little concept of time other than day and night. He knew he grew up but he didn’t know how long it had been. He thought hard then began to speak but not in his own voice, once again it was in his father’s voice.
“Helen, just turn them loose, we gotta get out of here!”
Then his mother’s voice blurted out, “Get Beau!”
Then his father’s voice again, “Let’s go!”
He paused then spoke in his father’s voice once more, “Beau, you stay up there, don’t let them get you.”
Then with the voice of a child a simple plea was whined, “Papa, don weeb me.” It was his own young voice.
He looked directly at Gran when he spoke his next words, as it was the answer to her actual question. “You’re a big boy, you’re three, remember? Papa’s little man. I’ll be right back.”
He sighed and looked away again.
“I see, zom eatem all, eberall gets eats.” He shook his head, remembering that everyone had been eaten, his family and the entire town had been devastated. The sad look in his eyes quickly left as he was brought back to the matter at hand. His foot needed to be fixed.
Beau trusted Gran because she was a grandmother. Lizzy told him that and he trusted her too. He knew she would not tell him something that was not true. “You may me fix.” He said softly meaning for her to go head and fix it, “You is a Gran.”
A voice of an ancient old man left his lips. “You do what you gotta do to survive boy. Follow the birds, only trust who they trust.”
Then suddenly, Lizzy’a voice came out of his mouth, clear as day.
“My Gran could fix your owwie. She's good with them. She's really nice too.”
Beau turned his head again and closed his eyes then linked his fingers with Lizzys willingly. “Trus you.” He said in a small voice. He was ready whenever Gran was ready to begin.

Gran leaned back on her heels astounded as Boo recanted pieces of his past. No, not Boo Beau; was his true name. That would be much more suited to the young man in front of her. She looked to Lizzy and bit back a small chuckle at the girls gobsmacked face. Stranger things had come through her back door, the girl was young yet she'd learn.
"Your safe now Beau. No zombies get into the city." She spoke slowly and emphasized Beau's name so that he would hear it from her. Adding a reassurance as well, zombies never made it past the walls of New Vegas at least.
Lizzy couldn't believe how he spoke it was so strange yet, well no stranger she supposed then when she saw a picture. It was just there a part of her. She gave him a soft smile as he linked his fingers with hers. She moved in closer and put an arm around him. His owie was much worse then any she'd ever had and she knew it would hurt a little before it got better. Gran would be very gentle though, she always was.
Taking Beau's foot she wiped away most of the dirt with a bit of cloth dipped into the warm water Lizzy had gotten for her. The dark coloration moving from the wound indicated that he had a deep infection. That was beyond her at the moment. She could only treat the cut. Working swiftly as she could without hurting Beau further. Ruby used a little surgeons knife and cut into the crust that covered his injury. It had softened from the warm water and gave way without to much pressure.
Moving closer, Ruby used her body to block what she was doing from the two. They did not need to see the foul puss that was oozing out of it. Her nose wrinkled at the smell and she held Beau's talon down letting gravity pull out the infection. The water bowl was soon fouled and needed to be replaced. Leaving the cloth over his foot she bustled about and did this herself. Her movements were quick and efficient, wasting little time in getting back to the task at hand.
"Just a little bit more Beau." She told him as she settled back down and began to flush out the injury with clean water. It took another bowl of clean water before the last of the infection could be flushed from his wound. Gran gently wrapped a fresh piece of linen cloth around the injury and looked up at the two after she did so.
"Beau, I think your going to need medicine for this as well. Will you let me have a friend come check it?" She asked him. While good with surface injuries she was not a doctor. The dark red and purple discolorations spidering up from the cut worried her.

Beau tolerated the ministrations by Gran with gritted teeth. He felt some immediate relief as the pressure from the puss was relieved from the wound. She was very gentle and didn't cause any more pain than was necessary. For that he was grateful.
He looked down at Elizabeths hand and squeezed it gently when the pain was at its worse but his face stayed stoic and determined. He would not show weakness, the harpy eagle male showed only strength in the presence of a potential mate and since Elizabeth was the only young female he ever encountered, thats what she was to him. He felt an attraction to her that he didn't understand but he would go with it the only way he knew how, by being kind, gentle and strong. Once he was able to, he would begin to bring her things, trinkets and prizes that he would search for. He would take care of her...that is what he would do to make her choose him for her mate. He turned his gaze to her eyes and smiled softly.
Then he heard Gran's question and stiffened. He looked at her, his eyes a bit wide, "Is mans? Hu-mans?" he asked in a worried voice, "Mans has rocks." he complained. "Sarp rocks. Make big bang, big hurts." He turned slightly and lifted a wing. Gently pushed a pure white, yet slightly tattered feather over to reveal a barely healed bullet wound in the tender flesh beneath it. "Keels Boo."
His voice changed to a gruff older male, "What the hell is that?"
Then it became female, "It's a monster!"
"Get my gun Helen!" the male voice said.
Beau shook his head, "Mans no help, mans make big bang, keels Boo. Boo is mon-star."
((Feel free to call on Archer for help))

Elizabeth couldn't help but smile warmly at Beau as he clutched her hand. He was being very brave after all that Gran was doing to his poor foot. She didn't think she could have been so quiet or still. She caught him looking at her and her smiled deepened. "Your being very brave Beau, more then I ever could." She told him.
Gran's question seemed to make him change, from that brave moment to something like panic. Lizzy's hand tightened in his and she listened as he spoke again.
"You are not a Monster!" she yelped. Now way was Beau a monster. Different yes, but not a monster. Some people were just so stupid. How could someone think of him as a monster was beyond her keen. His wings were beautiful. They both gasped as he showed them yet another injury. Lizzy's heart broke for what he had suffered through. She had been so sheltered living here with Gran and Adam. Even when she snuck out she'd had never encountered anyone being cruel. Granted thought the last time she managed to sneak out she'd been caught by Gavin and promptly kept safe, helped Adam find a better job and returned home all in a timely manner too.
"Gran, do you have to call someone?" she asked worried about who she would call. She didn't know many of Grans contacts, she was never really allowed to be near or around most days. It sucked that she had to be kept hidden. Not that she was ungrateful but being nearly grown up she wanted to be able to go out and not have to hide so much. New Vegas was a big place with lots of places she had not seen yet except in her limited way.
With a heavy sigh Gran chuckled. "No Beau, no humans. They would not know how to help you child. And yes Elizabeth I need to call, Archer is a dear friend whom can help you more then I have already. He's a good healer. I trust him too." She added hoping to reassure Beau that this was not someone that would harm him.
She moved over to the small black rotary phone that had been installed a short time ago. It connected businesses to each other as well as to the casino's and the VSF if the need ever arose. Gran never planed on calling that number if she could help it. Nope today she'd call on Archer for assistance. The angel had a kind heart and was someone she trusted completely. She was sure that his healing abilities would be better against the infection that Beau had. Gran was certain if she tried the Hospital they would only do worse or perhaps take the boy for their lab.. No she wasn't going to let that happen if she could help it.
The rotary rang several times before someone picked up. "Hello? Archer? This is Ruby dear, I need your help if you can come to the bakery please." She said and waited for a reply.

Post by Archer Michaels on Sept 16, 2012 21:48:56 GMT 1
Archer was in the office with Matt, playing footsies under the tables while looking over some music they had written. He could not wait to get on stage and express his love and devotion for Matt to the crowd of the newly renovated casino. Their new boss was so good in her heart; Archer was happy working for her. Archer was happy regardless of anything else because if he wanted to know where Matt was, all he had to do was turn his head to the left or right and see him standing there in all his glorious wonder.
When the phone rang, he did not hesitate to pick it up. As a matter of fact, he had been waiting for an opportunity to try the new gadget out. His look of excitement faded as he spoke into the receive, “I’ll be right there.” He said and hung up. He looked at Matt with concern, “It’s Ruby, she needs us.” He informed him and stood up, “There is an old church about a block away.” He held out his hand an without hesitation, Matt took it. In the blink of an eye they were in the church then running out the door. It was only a minute later they came through Ruby’s back door, with worried expressions.
There, sitting on a stool was a young man with pure white wings and feet like an eagle, and there on his shoulders were two Harpy eagles who immediately flew to his and Matt’s shoulders, chirping wildly.
“Oh really? Well, I am happy to see you as well. It is good to see your species survived.” Archer asked. The eagle prattled on again. “It’s ok Ama, we’ll help Beau.” He stroked her head softly and she leaned into his hand. He turned his attention to the boy who was staring at the two incredibly tall, gentle looking men. He nodded at Gran, “I understand this young man needs a bit of healing.” He smiled softly at Beau while giving Ruby the respect of making brief eye contact with her. Right now, she would understand that the young man with the frightened eyes needed the comfort of his attention.
“It’s OK, Beau, Ama was telling me that you hurt your talon.” He kept eye contact but pointed toward his foot. “Those are beautiful wings Beau and I would like to show you something.” He stepped deeper into the kitchen to give him room, turned his removed his shirt, revealing the tattooed wings on his back. His body was so perfect it was almost unnatural, he turned to face them, closed his glowing blue eyes and every muscle in his torso and arms seemed to flex. With a bright light, his wings extended. He stretched them out as far as he could until the effort was just too much for him and he let them fold back into his back. He looked at Beau and smiled, “See, I have wings too.” He approached the boy gently, “Beau, I am an angel. My name is Archer.” He said softly. He did not tell him that he was the Archangel Michael, the most powerful angel on heaven or earth but he had an inkling that Ruby knew, she was a smart lady.
Archer was pleased that the boy seemed more in awe by him than fearful so he knelt next to Gran so he could look at the foot. He winced when he saw it and Apa went crazy with chirping as Ama flew off his shoulder and went to Beau’s. “A zombie? Oh my, that would cause infection for sure.” He grimaced at Ruby, “You did the right thing, it looks septic. I’m surprised he isn’t sick yet.” He looked back up at Beau, “Beau, I am going to heal this for you.” He began, “But you have to believe it will work, or it will not.” He informed him, “All you have to do is say you believe in me and in my power.” He looked the boy in the eye as he waited for his response, although he had a feeling he knew what he would say.

Beau watched Ruby talk to the thing she held to her ear and gave Lizzy a look with a raised eyebrow that said he thought she was crazy. While he waited he heard his stomach rumble again and he frowned a bit, "I hungry." he complained. In a flash, Ama was at the plate of sandwhiches that Lizzy hand made, picked one up and flew it back to Beau.
Beau didn't know what a sandwich was and basically tore it to pieces to get it eaten. He didn't care how it got into his gut, as long as it got in there. He was just licking the last of it from his fingers when the two men came in. At first he was frightened but there was something familiar about one of them and his eagles flew to their shoulders.
He watched quietly as the shorter of the two incredibly tall men chatted with his eagles. He wished he could do that but he understood them well enough. He watched as Archer moved into the room and took off his shirt. He gasped in awe at his magnificent tattoo but that was nothing compared to his amazement of the pure white wings he had. They were just like his. That was when he began to remember the other angel. He looked at Matt then back at Archer. He listened very carefully, trying to understand every word. So, he had wings too and he was going to heal him.
His memory flashed back in his head and he stared directly at Matt. His face went blank and he spoke in Matt's voice.
"It's ok, my friends, the lad only has a simple case of the measles, I can help."
Beau remembered the fire-lit cave he was in when he was little and he was so sick. Ama and Apa had found help and the tallest person Beau had ever seen had come. His eyes were blue and he was magic. Beau was only around 7 years old. The angel had talk to him for hours while Beau tried to tell him things with his limited vocabulary. He had cried and told the angel he missed his mother and father.
"I miss someone too Beau, his name is Michael."
The angel had said to him.
"I will always miss him because part of my heart is missing. We can never get over them, but if we try, and work hard, we can get through it and make them proud."
The time he spent talking to the angel while he was sick was one of his best memories. Never had he felt such love and protection. He felt safe. He was in that cave for two days before the slag had appeared. Ama and Apa had whisked Beau away at Matt's command, because where there was one slag, there were dozens. Beau never saw him again.
"You is Met-ra-don, member you." he informed him. Beau turned his gaze back to Archer as blood rolled out of his nose from using the voice of the angel. "I know you is. You is no Ar-cher." he said with awe, "You is My-kal." he cocked his head to the side a little, "Matt wuv you. He say. He cry. You is My-kal. You is angel, I bweev. You help Boo...Beau." He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, "Head hurts." he complained softly.

Post by Matt Donovan on Sept 17, 2012 17:11:47 GMT 1
Matt and Archer had been practically inseparable since they had returned from New York and Matt had quickly become enraptured with Archer's love of performing in the Casino. One of the kitzies there had even laid a claim to him which Matt had found utterly adorable. Another adorable thing was the sparkle of excitement in Archer's eyes as he finally got to try out the telephone. Archer may have been in New Vegas longer than Matt but he was still relatively new to visiting the earth and some of the simplest things filled him with wonder.
Archer already seemed to know everyone in New Vegas and Matt was still catching up with his many friends and acquaintances, Ruby however was a name that he knew. Matt had never been able to ignore a plea for help, in truth it had never occurred to him to even try, and he fell into Archer's lead instantly, taking his hand and lending himself to his companions direction, racing hand in hand with him to their destination.
Their arrival at Ruby's must have made a strange scene but then there was already a very strange scene in progress. Archer immediatelyy took the situation in hand and though the winged boy might have been the most striking figure in the room, Matt was instantly distracted by Apa's soft chirruping in his ear. His eyes widened fractionally in surprise, “Apa?” he murmured and smiled a little more at the eagle before turning back to Beau and Archer in time to see Archer begin to extend his wings.
Matt caught his breath; he was not immune to the effect that Archer had when he did that. The feather he wore hidden beneath his shirt hummed in sympathy with Archer's power. The way Beau looked at him had Matt searching his memory for what he now knew to be there. Angels never forgot but some things needed to be actively remembered and now Matt remembered Beau. Still he was startled when Beau began to speak with his voice.
Apa screeched frantically but Matt had stepped forward before he could launch himself from his shoulder back to Beau's. “Beau, stop.” Matt implored him, afraid for what such an effort could do to a human. Matt dropped down to one knee beside Beau peering worriedly at the blood that rolled down from his nose. Apa hopped back to Beau's shoulder nipping his ear hard and chirruping scoldingly.
Matt's eyes flashed to Archer a second as Beau went on to name them both in his own voice. Whilest they had turned their names somewhat to pass amongst humans, denying their true name was just not something an Archangel could or would do. “Yes Beau, you are right.” he murmured softly with a smile and touched his hand to Beau's forehead to soothe the pain. “But hush now and let us help you.” Matt just hoped that these were all good friends of Archer's or his secret was going to be in serious jeopardy.

Hearing the melodious voice of Archer even through the line of the phone made Ruby feel ten times better about her decision. She knew that this was out of her area of comfort. She was a deft hand at sewing up a wound or two when the need called for it. But the obvious infection was not something that she had anything for. From the way Beau reacted to human's she knew in her heart that trying to get him to the Medical center would not have worked either.
It was no surprise to Ruby when he walked in from the back door only moments after she had called. Beau's eagle's started chirping as soon as the angel entered and flew unto him and his companion's shoulders. "Yes, he needs your gentle hand if you would Archer." She answered him before he turned his attention back to Beau. She couldn't not help the smile that came. It was good to see Archer and his companion. Ruby's heart was filled with peacefulness that the angels seemed to bring with them.
She marveled silently as he revealed his wings to Beau.. it was a truly amazing site to see. Yes she had a fair inkling of what Archer was and she'd studied the good book growing up. Lord knew she prayed hard enough some nights when she felt the need. It was humbling to have such a being in her kitchen, truly humbling.
~~~~~~~~~ Elizabeth felt the fissure of something electric run down the back of her neck and it scared her. She gave Beau a hurried squeeze of reassurance and whispered in his ear "I'll be right back" before slipping out of the kitchen and down the little hall that led to the apartment stairs. If the Angels made note of her, it was just the back of her flowing hair as she skittered out of the room. It was not her bravest moment but Lizzy knew that she couldn't stay. Something pushed her out of the kitchen; a driving force that even she could not ignore. Shivers of apprehension and unease taunted her as she climbed the stairs and hurried into her and Adam's apartment.
She hated leaving Beau and Gran; she just could not stay. She almost felt as if she wasn't supposed to see them but something else... Her head started throbbing softly as her eyes went blank.
Time lost meaning as Lizzy stumbled into the apartment and sat heavily on their little couch. The room faded from her as a vision came. She was looking down from someplace high. People on huge tall animals sat looking up at the wall. They were dressed in many dull colors and had weapons. Not one of them were dressed the same at all. One man sat in front of them on a huge black animal, horse?. Lizzy wasn't sure she'd never seen one before at least not in person. Only in visions had she seen these animals. They were magnificent to her. His dark hair and worried face drew her attention, as the scene slowly played out underneath her. He shouted something. She had no clue what it was but it was if he was calling to someone. Pleading? Some visions gave her words others it was as if watching a silent film play out. The others behind him gave her the impression he was their leader. A lone figure appeared at the top of the wall, his hair so fair it gleamed in the early hours before sunrise. Lizzy was struck by the aura of utter and ultimate power he had. This man was ancient, masculine and filled her with a sense of raw indomitable strength. In that one moment she feared him and almost wanted to meet him as well. Her body shivered on the couch despite the warm temperature of the room. They both faced off and her vision went dark. There was nothing more for her to see. Just that meeting. Of two men of power.. out side the city's walls. It would happen soon. Very soon.
She slumped backwards, her head throbbing in time to her heart beat. This vision was stronger then any other she had had so far. Each detail of their faces burned before her eyes. Something was coming to the wall of New Vegas, something that would effect them all. Elizabeth swiped at her eyes as tears started to gather. She had to draw. It didn't matter how afraid this made her she had to get it out onto paper... Shakily her hand reached for the pad on the table, the others below were completely forgotten as she began to sketch. ~~~~~~~~~ Ruby missed seeing Elizabeth slip out under her very nose. She was in awe herself as Archer displayed his own wings to Beau and nodded mutely as he knelt beside her and spoke of her doing the right thing. Beau looked to Archers companion and seemed to recognize him. She smiled as he spoke. His speech was that of the angel and she gasped softly. Matt quieted him down and Ruby knew it was time for her to busy herself else where for a moment. Another secret to keep treasured.
Beau was starting to talk more and more, though most of it was remembered speech. Ruby held the hope that it would lead to him speaking more clearly. It was something that she would help him with if he were willing to learn. There was a room above that would suit him if he wished to stay on for a time. She had a feeling he may wish to be closer to Elizabeth.
She looked to the plate of sandwiches that Lizzy had made and turned to ask her a question and noticed she wasn't there. Odd that the girl had left. Perhaps she'd be right back, Ruby mussed silently to herself as she gathered some fresh cinnamon cookies for the gentlemen in her kitchen. When they were done helping Beau she would make sure that had something good to eat. She turned abruptly as Beau complained of his head hurting and caught sight of the nose bleed.
Not wasting a moment she gathered up a towel and wet it down with some cold water. "Here Beau use this on your nose." She offered and looked to Archer and Matt in askance. Did his speaking their names cause this. The boy had been through so much already.
Archer immediately recognized that Beau was doing something he shouldn't do. He realized that he was actually speaking in Matt's voice, not merely mimicking it. He had never encountered this before but it was obvious that there was too much power in the voice of an angel for someone who was not a heavenly being. He quickly moved from the foot to Beau's side and laid a hand on his head. He closed his eyes to assess the damage then looked at Matt with concerned eyes. "Do you feel the anurism?" he asked softly. "You are the more adept healer, my heart. This will take your delicate hand and more focused power." he looked down at the small black woman calmly.
"Matt is going to soothe his head while I heal the talon." he said with a soft smile of encouragement and turned his gaze back onto Beau, "You must never speak in an angel's voice." he said in a calm, even tone, "It will hurt your head, very badly. We will not always be here to heal the damage so you must promise me not to do it again." He waited for the young man to nod, "Pro-miss." came the small sound from the harpy.
Archer nodded at Matt that it was time to begin as Beau took the offered towel and held it to his nose. Archer knelt in front of Beau and put his hand gently over the wound. Even with his eyes closed, the power within showed through his eyelids. As his power built then released, his eyes opened, casting a pure, bright, white light into the immediate visinity. His hand glowed with a warm healing light as the dark tendrils of infection retreated and disappeared. Soon, all that was left was a thick pink scar. He let out a sigh as he released his power and ended his ministration. He looked to Matt to see how he was doing with the more pressing need. An anurism could kill Beau and the healing was a delicate thing. No scar could be left.
Archer moved to Ruby's side and took her hand. "Matt is the only one I would trust with such a healing." he said softly as he secretly assessed her health. Ruby was old, very old but she didn't look a day over 70. There was a reason for that. Archer's good friend in heaven had been her guardian angel, he had known of her since her birth. Kaliel had taken a particular interest in her from the moment her little spirit left heaven. He would chatter on and on about her as if she were his own child. She was special to him and when he fell in the war in heaven, Archer promised to take over and keep her safe. He would keep Anubis from her door for as long as he could, even if it meant breaking the rules. Some rules were meant to be broken, these people that she helped needed her.
Her heart was in need of a tuneup, as any heart that had beaten that long would, so did her lungs considering the poisons she had inhaled during the apocalypse. Nonchalantly, as if he were doing nothing at all, his hand began to glow softly, as did his eyes, for only a moment as he rebuilt some cells that were sorely in need ot a little help and increased her bloodflow. He tweaked her endocrine system to make it function more efficiently and give her the energy she needed to do her work. As long as her organs continued to function at capacity, this old wonder would outlive Elizabeth. The glow faded and another sigh escaped him. To play it off as if he was merely inhaling the pleasant scents of the kitchen he smiled and looked at Ruby, "Do I smell cinnamon? I love your cinnamon cookies Ruby." he said with a smile, then looked back at Matt, waiting for him to finish his delicate work. He was proud that Beau was sitting so still, as were his birds.
((Now, the mystery of why Ruby can be as old as she is and can be so healthy while being a normal human, has been solved.))
((Skip Beau- Tag Matt))
Though he had known well before Beau complained of the pain that he would not escape unscathed from his feat, it was not until the instant when Matt actually touched Beau that he recognised that the damage was in fact far greater than he had hoped. His eyes glowed a fraction brighter as he immediately took away Beau's perception of the pain. His gentle smile for Beau did not slip; he did not wish to frighten him further and exacerbate the monumental pressure that the strain had caused to build in his brain. His graver concern showed only in the minutest changes of his manner and demeanour, things that would be obvious only to Archer who knew him better than he knew himself.
“I have it.” Matt murmured in response to Archer's question. Already he had begun to trace back along the tendrils of pain that threaded through Beau's head like raw burnt nerves, soothing and healing as he went. He could feel the pressure of the greater hurt like a storm cloud on the horizon but held back from it a moment. It would be a delicate task to defuse and he must be certain Beau was ready and relaxed before he began. Archer nodded to him and Matt could feel his power immediately growing inside him, the pure healing light of love that would wash away the sickness and infection that festered in Beau's talon and he knew also that his task would not be so direct.
Where Archer's light rolled like a wave from him, Matt's flowed faint and ethereal as a morning mist, seeping gently and painlessly through every pore and cell, delicately tracing along every neurone until it permeated everything, suffusing Beau's face with a soft glow. Matt's eyes were closed but their shining bleach-blue light shone from Beau's eyes as Matt used his intense empathy and connection to humanity to direct his angelic strength harmlessly through Beau's body to where it was most needed. The barely discernible touch of power might have seemed like a trickle of water against a cliff face but it was as eternal and relentless as the dew that would eventually shatter the mountain.
Matt was an Archangel and it would be a critical error to mistake his gentleness and patience for a lack of strength. He felt Archer break away from Beau and knew that his other injury was healed, but Matt required a little longer for his task. It was not exactly pressure that Matt applied to the injury but a negative pressure, a drawing away of pain and hurt. Gradually the pulsing of the aneurism in Beau's brain grew weaker, the pressure slowly dissipating in gently caressing currents as tiny rips and tears sealed themselves flawlessly.. Stagnant fluids drained away back to their proper places and swollen tissues shrank back as cell walls strengthened. It was done.
Slowly, with as much care as he had used to reach into Beau, Matt gently withdrew his healing essence. His whole body was surrounded for a moment by a pale nimbus before it faded back into him and his eyes when he opened them again were especially bright. Rising to his feet, he kissed Beau softly on the forehead. “All better now.” he said with a smile, much as he had the last time they had met. Apa it seemed had much to say on the matter and squawked loudly to them both causing Matt to laugh. “Yes Apa, most certainly you should.” Matt could sense through the feather he carried that Archer had just exerted his healing power again but Matt could keep a secret.
He turned towards Archer and Ruby, his expression as innocent as a child. “Did someone just mention cookies?”
The presents of the angles in her kitchen filled her with awe. They were good boys. It did not matter to Ruby that they were more then likely eons old. To her they were kind men whom never failed to answer a call for help. Next to Gavin, she had a soft spot in her heart for both of them. She could only nod as Archer assured her that he and Matt would take care of Beau. Another young-ling to fill her home and heart with.
She watched quietly as they administered their angelic healing to the boy. It seemed the boys talon was quickly healed and Archer moved away and joined her. As he took her hand she could feel the warmth of his compassion and smiled up at him. "Bless you child." She said and gave his hand a squeeze. The touch had invigorated her and she half wondered if he hadn't done something. Best not to ask, a gift given did not need to be questioned.
"Yes, there are cinnamon cookies. Enough for you both to have and to take some for later if you would like." Ruby added as Matt to asked about cookies. Smiling at them both she took the plate and offered it up to both men as well as Beau. She always had cookies. It would never do for a baker to run out of goodies for those that stopped in.
"If you would like Beau, there is a room that is empty across the hall from Elizabeth and Adam's. You are more then welcome to stay here for a time if you would like. I'm sure Lizzy would enjoy the company now that her brother is working more." she added. Since she had not come back down, Ruby wondered if perhaps she was talking with her brother. Yes, that seemed a likely answer as to why she had not come back into the kitchen.
