Playby: Stuart Townsend
Name: Nathaniel Musell
Age: 26/ 438
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Species: Fire Elemental
Physical Description:
Nate’s face is as expressive as it is handsome- and that is to say extremely (at least, in his opinion anyway). His eyes and hair are brown, the latter styled depending on need but often left to its own devices. His body stands at 6’2” in lean but defined muscles. When not sharing the glory that is his naked body he typically will be seen in slacks and button down shirts. He knows how to dress himself well, and enjoys doing so when the mood so strikes him.
Attitude:
Nathaniel has a certain boyish charm that makes it challenging to stay angry with him for very long. That is a very handy thing given that he also tends to get himself into trouble when bored. Generally speaking his antics can distract from the substance within and Nate would not have it any other way when it so suits him. Nathaniel has an insatiable appetite for many things and is a naturally observant and highly intelligent man. His excitement is extremely infectious. In possession of a golden tongue and golden fingers Nate is a very entertaining party guest. He often will behave in enigmatic ways and it is a safe assumption to believe that he is always up to something. A clever and passionate man at his core, he is fiercely protective of those he loves.
He is VERY interested in information regarding his wife, Selina. She is currently missing, as is their employer Eduard DeMarien.
Abilities:
Nathaniel has the ability to control and create fire. His specialty is precise control and steady heat; which he often utilizes in working with small pieces of metal of an assortment of varieties. This talent comes in very handy for his trade as an artisan. It also translates well into more questionable activities that range from robbery to obscure (and sometimes dangerous) science experiments. Nate’s flames come in a variety of degrees and strengths and appear in different colours depending on the heat utilized.
Nate’s memory is photographic, and he needs very little time to implement this talent. People’s faces, credit card numbers, pages of books, the periodic table… whatever it is, if Nate takes the time to properly look at something he can store the information away for when he needs it. His fingers are very dexterous from the intricate work that he often does- be it creating art or cracking safes. He also has a talent for music, especially the piano. This latter skill he will often use in combination with his charm in order to setup his mark.
Weaknesses:
Despite an immortal appearance, Nate can be injured and killed the same as any human being. He is not immune to illness. As an elemental wielding the power of fire, he is weak against water. Earth can also prove challenging. Nathaniel suffers no shortage of ego. He knows exactly what an amazing creature he is and everyone else should too. Nate also has an addictive personality. He likes to have a good time and always has. When he indulges in anything it is almost always in levels of excess. He has a very limited amount of willpower when it comes to the objects of his desire. Because of this (as much as he would never admit it) his love for his wife is often problematic. After all, the swiftest, harshest way to make him suffer is to punish her instead. Nate is very protective of Selina- as addicted to her as he is in love with her. The idea of being without this woman is utterly ridiculous to him and he would rather destroy the universe than have to suffer such a fate. He can be a bit overdramatic from time to time, and he is routinely stubborn.
History:
Nathaniel Musell’s family was old money and nobody despised that more than Nate himself. In any other circumstance his father could have said he’d gotten what he wanted- a son. But Nate did not live up to the expectations put upon him. He abhorred the society he was born into, but worse he excelled at maneuvering in it.
He grew as a mischievous child, but that was for the governess to deal with. His parents paid no mind to the number of help they were going through for sake of their son. So long as someone minded the boy they were content. His sister Rebecca was the only real affection he knew growing up. They were playmates, but she was older by six years and often reprimanded him. It was his sister’s word that was law, not that of his parents.
Ah the parents... His mother, Gloria, had the temperament of a sedated cow. Though she was lovely and her manners refined Nate could never raise the woman’s heart rate. She ignored her husband’s affairs and her son’s bad behavior. There were times when Nate was sure he could burn the house down and she would say nothing more than how warm it was. Still, he had to give the woman some credit. She was a brilliant art critic. How one so cold could find the most moving art boggled his mind. Likewise she could access women like art- she knew the money hungry, the fame seekers, and the genuine. She could tell your class in three words. Perhaps she didn’t know that, but Nate did. The change was in her eyes- the pass or fail. The light in them dimmed when they failed, and then she dismissed them.
Francis Wetherby Musell IV. That was his father, and the name said everything. The money was old but there was a business to keep it fresh. The Musells were a long line of fire elemntals who specialized in using their flames to work with creative media. Francis was a wise man, he knew his busines, and within his lifetime he doubled the family fortune. He didn’t have time to raise either of his children, but when the time came he expected Nate to be ready to learn everything about the family business.
But Nate was already learning. Without attention he spent his time watching every one. People were fascinating to the child: especially his parents. He learned their expressions, the tone of their voice, and the slightest movements. The changes he could make were his rewards. He was also a well read child, when he could be persuaded to sit still. He had his fingers in everything- taking everything and anything apart to put it back together (sometimes in new and more “interesting” ways). But more than any lessons, it was those for piano that he loved best.
As a young man Nate had things already figured out. It was a world of falsity and pretend friends. He took no stock in it, making appearances only because he had to. Even so he slipped away at every chance he could. Whether it was flirting with the help or gambling games with other boys Nate was excellent at entertaining himself- typically with things that his family would deem inappropriate.
Sex was his favorite hobby and morphine his favorite drug. Nate was the charming heir to a fortune, so half the work was done by simply uttering his name. Women loved him, and so did men. He never kept lovers long, but he would repeat them if he felt like it. He was at the core hedonistic, and as such he rarely did things he found no pleasure in. This included learning the family business and staying more than absolutely necessary at any social gatherings.
For all the falsity that surrounded him Nathaniel was perpetually on a quest for what was real. And real for him was pleasure. It was living according to whim and never ignoring his emotions. In a society of repressed emotions, however, outlets were necessary. Because of this the piano was Nate’s world. It was the one place he could pour himself out. The keys cried for him when he needed to cry, and it thundered when he needed to thunder. And best of all, he could do it in front of everyone. He moved people with it, in some small way or another. If only for a minute he composed their world and made it dance.
Nate had a second love. Selina. Infatuation or obsession might have been a better word for it, but it would do. He’d found Selina Lux while she was performing vocally at the Royal Opera House. She kept turning him down, which was a concept unfathomable for the suave Nathaniel. At first it was just her body that interested him, but as soon as he saw them her eyes became his focus. She came from somewhere just like him. After a little research and a lot of roses he finally got his way. She was the best he’d ever had, and every time was better. The passion between them was something he’d never experience before. Although they didn’t know each other, they did, because they functioned the exact same way. They connected. They were perfect. She was perfect. They became inseparable. They were lovers, friends, and partners.
In time, Nate and Selina went into business together. They became art thieves. The pair was handsome, charming, and well bred so they were readily welcomed into a wide variety of places which provided their opportunity. It was not about the money, but rather about the challenge. Nate and Selina knew these kinds of people- they would not suffer for lack of their artwork or jewelry. Rather they were after the challenge.
But the world changed. It ended, in its way. Nate and Selina were lucky to escape the terror together with the aid of a new associate Eduard DeMarien. Together they were working on a project which Nate does not seem terribly interested in sharing at the moment. Instead his focus has become finding the now missing Selina. Eduard is missing as well, but Nate seems to be more suspicious of this than concerned. His search has lead him to New Vegas.

Nathaniel sighed and tucked his pencil behind his ear before scratching at his chin. The blueprint before him seemed to be missing something but he just couldn’t put his finger on it at the moment. He counted the entry ways again and found the mistake. He’d forgotten to mark the electrical panel that fed the security equipment for third floor. If he was going to get into the archives he would have to cut the power without triggering the backup alarm.
After making the correction he leaned back in his chair, tapping his pencil against the table as he thought about how he was going to distract the security personnel long enough to access the electrical. It wasn’t like the old days, you couldn’t just show up in a uniform from the electrical company. Selina had always been the perfect partner. She was distracting for a variety of reasons, all of which Nate found delightful. He grumbled, his brown eyes sliding to a nearby picture frame. The radiant, blonde Selina had her arms around Nate’s neck. It was a candid shot of them dancing and Nate’s favorite picture. They were dancing, their eyes locked, and their lips smiling. The love was palpable in their expressions and it made Nate’s heart lurch with an intense ache. It had been three months, six weeks, two days, and half an hour since he’d last seen his wife. It simply wasn’t acceptable.
“Don’t you worry Lina.” He whispered, reaching out to caress the figure in the picture. “I’ll find you darling if it’s the last thing I do.”
