The shutters had all closed on the casinos and the night sky had given way to the light grey ambiance of dawn. Danny walked down the footpath in his black leather jacket, black jeans and dark sunglasses with a hop in his step and a grin on his face. This was the third day he was able to walk in the sun without becoming fried vampire and he was thoroughly enjoying it. One of the things he enjoyed most was the looks on people’s faces when they saw him walking in the sun without burning up. Since he was the city planner, people recognized his face. It was the most incredible feeling he ever had. He had gone out well before the sun came up so he could see the sunrise. He had found a place where he could see the sun rise over the mountain range to the east and that was where he was going.
Danny followed the winding footpath to the small coffee lounge that had a deck built on the rooftop that served as a sort of lookout. He liked the two human men who ran the place. They reminded him of his days with Josh. He sat down at a small table and ordered a cup of coffee that he would never raise to his lips, he just wanted to feel normal for once. The sky was already lit up with streaks of orange and red, shadowed but dark grey whispy clouds with highlights of blue peeking through. He smiled with nostalgic joy as he watched the sky. He wished he had gained this gift while Josh was still with him. Aching loneliness washed over him and saddness filled his eyes. Suddenly he felt eyes on him and the emotions were pushed aside in favor of a more happy expression. He turned to look at an amazing specimen of a man staring at him.
“You daywalking?” the man asked him cautiously.
Danny smiled brightly, “Uh, no, not really, kind of…for some reason I can tolerate the sun. No need to call anyone, I’m not killing myself.” He answered back and turned back to nature's show. “This is my third sunrise this week. Still kicking.” He said softly and smiled again. Whilst the sunrise was quickly becoming a plain blue sky with white streaks of whispy clouds, he was still happy to be out in the daylight but now, his attention moved back to the fine looking man. “So, what’s your name?” he asked, “Come here often?” It was a sorely abused pickup line but for Danny, it usually worked.

Jackson was heading up the stairs of the shop towards the roof deck. He'd already ordered his food downstairs but he wanted to be sure he didn't miss enjoying the view from the roof. He'd started off watching the sun come up from the construction site but it was a long wait until the rest of the crew arrived to begin the shift, so he'd started looking for somewhere to sit and have breakfast while he waited. It had been pure luck that this morning he had stumbled upon the little shop with its rooftop tables.
He had no idea if he used to do anything like this before his accident but he couldn't imagine why he wouldn't have. Sunrise, sunset, even the torrential rain the elementals summoned when the summer heat got to be too much, it was all just so amazing. But then in a way he was seeing it all for the first time... again. He chuckled softly to himself. Whatever he had lost in the accident, what he had now, an appreciation and zest for life actually made it seem worthwhile.
There weren't many people in the small coffee-house this early in the morning, the vampires had gone to bed or to ground or whatever it was that they did behind their steel shutters, and the human population was only just beginning to stir, waiting for the light to rouse them to another day. Jackson on the other hand was already up and about. He worked hard and played hard, and sleep just wasn't something he needed much of. He had already sweated out last nights beer before he had showered and headed out to grab some breakfast.
There was another man already seated on the roof when he emerged from the stairwell. Jackson just stood a moment looking at his back. The man had the most amazing blue-black hair. He moved to take a seat at another table but his eyes kept being drawn back to the other man, and then they widened a little in surprise as he realised what he was looking at. The man was a vampire and calmly sitting there with a cooling cup of coffee waiting for the sun to rise. Jackson had no real idea what to do but damn... he couldn't just sit there and watch the guy fry.
“You daywalking?” he called to the unknown vampire and was even more surprised to see him smiling as he turned to answer. Jackson sat bemused and watched the vampire watch the sun rise. He could still hardly believe what he was seeing when the vampire turned his still perfectly gorgeous face back towards him. A stray thought drifted briefly through his mind. I wonder what colour his eyes are behind those glasses? He got to his feet and moved closer, pulling up a chair at the same table. “My name's Jackson, or so they tell me...” he answered with a grin, “...and to answer your question, I have absolutely no idea.” He began to laugh cheerfully. “What's your name?”

Danny was pleased that the gorgeous blonde human was taking the bait. Why was he doing this? He didn’t know. He knew that love only hurt him in the end. He knew that each time he took a gamble and opened his battered and beaten heart, which was held together only by promises and memories, he would only be hurt by it and he would be left to pick up the pieces of his world again. It had to be the all consuming loneliness that tortured him daily. It was only precious moments before that he had thought about his beloved lover Josh. It could be that this tall, well-tanned Adonis had the same unique of color hair as Josh did.
It was sweet honey blonde at the roots, fading out to pale flaxen on the messy tips from the profound bleaching effects of the Nevada desert sun. Danny had always liked the warm, lingering smell of sunshine on Josh. However, he was gone now. Now, here was this man who quite obviously spent most of his time in the sun working hard. Danviel could smell the sunshine in his hair from where he was sitting. Now that he was closer, the scent was stronger; beckoning. His musculature was reminiscent of a Michelangelo sculpture; perfectly carved. It was natural, just like his intoxicatingly graceful body movement.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Jackson.” Danviel quipped with a satisfied smirk. “My name is Danviel Koenig.” He inclined his head slightly, a formality that spoke of greetings and well wishes. His accent held a mild hint of his German history along with a taste of an English accent from learning to speak the Queens tongue in its country of origin. He looked the man over with an appreciative eye. The thoughts that came to his head sent a shiver up his spine.
Was he ready for something like this? Was he ready to feed on a human, knowing the lust and passion that came with the activity? The more he looked at this amazing specimen of a man, the more he knew he was ready. “I would very much like to get to know you, Jackson.” His dark, black, piercing gaze met Jackson’s eyes. Pale white surrounded his obsidian irises. His pupils were indiscernible from his irises unless someone was to look at them from very close up. This was unusual for a vampire but his eyes had been this way since he fed on the mutant who filled him with the sun.
The hot desert sun was higher and gently bathing one side of Danviel’s perfect face in rich warmth that was very quickly becoming mildly uncomfortable. “I must get out of the sun for now.” He touched his cheek softly where the skin was becoming pink, “You see, I cannot stay out for long.” He let his fingers slide down his perfectly sculpted cheek and jaw with the sole purpose of bringing Jackson’s attention to it. “May I buy you a drink this evening?” his inquiry carried a note of promises of excitement and enjoyment. “Or perhaps, you can buy me one.” His satisfied smirk grew into a crooked smile that enveloped his face and brightened his eyes.

It was pretty cheeky of him he knew, pulling up a chair uninvited like that, especially on a vampire, but with a guy that good looking he decided that he'd take the slightest hint of a come on as an invitation. Jackson thought his brain must still be stuck somewhere in 'wow-land' and he blinked in surprise when he heard the vampire's name. Whilst he may have forgotten a lot of things from before, the City Planner's name was on every blueprint and docket that came down from the Council to the construction site. “You're the City Planner?” he blurted in a mix of startlement and elation as his stomach did a quick flip-flop.
It felt suddenly a little strange to be sat talking to the 'big man' in person and Jackson looked back at Danny's satisfied smirk a little coyly. “It's a good job they don't put your picture on the plans too,” he quipped, “...or I'd never get any work done at all.” and his pleased grin returned in full force. He really wasn't certain any more which was the more amazing; that the vampire was sat there beside him with the dawn light playing through the blue highlights of his dark, wavy hair or that he was the City Planner and Jackson was flirting with him...
He had never thought to imagine what the distant and unknowable Danviel Koenig looked like, never mind what he sounded like, but that crazy accent he had was... well, 'wow' was rapidly becoming Jackson's favourite 'word of the day'. He suddenly had no idea what he was about to say next as at that moment Danny's eyes found his and he got the answer to his earlier thought... black, his eyes are black. Black like he carried his own personal night inside of him. Black like dark water, deep and drowning... Jackson was left fighting to catch his breath.
His eyes followed Danny's hand as if he were mesmerized, watching with rapt attention as his fingers trailed slowly across the perfect skin of his cheek, only now just beginning to take on a faint pink tinge from the sun, almost as if he were blushing. Jackson was seized with the sudden near overwhelming urge to kiss that cheek, to run his tongue along the perfect line of Danny's jaw and to end with a taste of his full and silken lips. So enraptured was he that he almost missed what was actually said next.
“A drink tonight?” Jackson shook himself out of his reverie and his smile spread at the promise contained in Danny's tone. “I think I would like that...” The realisation of what he had just said began to sink in. He had heard a few stories from those who had claimed to have spent time with vampires, of which he very much doubted the veracity, but in the short time for which he had memories he had not explored that pleasure for himself. Jackson very much hoped that he wasn't about to wake up and find this was all a dream.

Danviel smiled eloquently as he gingerly stood and stretched his long muscular legs. His tight black jeans tightened snugly against the ropey muscles in his thighs. He didn't need to stretch but he had aquired the auto-pilot habit during the long centuries before when he had to make a conscious effort to appear human. The habits had quickly become second nature.
There were many little tricks and gimmicks that vampires used to fool the populace during that time. Back when it was a requirement to conceal their existance by pain of death from King Drake and his sentinals. Sometimes Danviel missed the ambiguity and anonymity, other times he enjoyed the honesty of who he really was.
Danviel was not your ordianary, run of the mill, vampire. Most of those on the councils and those who worked in the vampire government were hand picked by Drake to ensure that they had a shread of humanity left in order to ensure that the project to save the human race did not turn out to be a nocturnal bloodbath and that the cities did not end up the epitomy of Sodom and Gomorrah with blood lust being the sin of choice. It was New York's grotesque underground bloodletting orgies and the gruesome human deaths that ultimately lead to its phlogistonic downfall at the hands of a man no sane vampire would cross, no matter his true age.
Danviel was trapped deep in thought for a frozen moment but he was distinctly aware of the young construction foreman's proximity. He had been too distracted by the beauty of nature's creation before to realize exactly who the man was. He was, indeed, the talk of the city reconstruction council.
Jackson Nickelby had come out of nowhere, introduced to them by the rats in the lab. They knew not to ask questions but to take him in and make him feel at home. Danviel didn't like it when the rats did that. He was stricken with a fatal flaw called integrity; adherence to moral and ethical principals that included honesty and humane treatment of humans. He had a heart, a soul, and empathy. No, he did not like keeping Jackson, or any of the other many humans with the same condition, in the dark.
"Great," he said enthusiastically yet with a , "I'll meet you at the Blue Lagoon just after sun down. I am feeling the call to sleep by the sun but I will be there as soon as I wake from my sleep of the day." he said cordially and held out his hand to bid fair fellow farewell. "It was a pleasure to meet you Jackson and I look forward to spending more time with you." he turned to leave but hesitated, "I must look into those baby blues again but, in a more private situation. Can you guarantee that I will get my wish?" he asked him.
His head cocked slightly to the side, the look of inquiry in his eyes was genuine and filled with the hope that he would aquire a positive response and left little to the imagination that he would be sorely disappointed with anything less.

Jackson couldn't help but watch in fascination as Danviel stretched out his legs, the tight jeans hugging their firm muscular shape tauntingly. He really was quite stunning in every physical respect, from his perfect complexion to his long, lean limbs. Jackson wasn't certain exactly what it was about this man, this vampire, that had so quickly entranced him. There were simply no flaws with the entire gorgeous package. As if he had needed more motivation, Danviel's amazing accent and.. well that he was the City Planner, someone who Jackson already admired for his profound creative vision... it was almost too good to be true.
He suddenly had so many questions he wanted to ask, both professional and personal, though he knew he had no right or leave to ask either. Perhaps he would have a chance to sate some of his curiosity on the personal front later tonight. He rose to his feet as Danviel did and accepted his proffered hand. “The Blue Lagoon. I will be there.” he grinned as he squeezed the hand firmly. He had heard of the place vaguely though he had never been to his recollection. But for Danviel he would have agreed to meet pretty much anywhere just for the faintest chance to even talk with this fascinating man once again.
Jackson realised he had taken an unthinking step closer to the vampire when he had taken his hand. and their eyes were almost level as they stood facing. He quite suddenly and desperately didn't want the vampire to leave without... without what? He had no idea... Once again he found it strangely hard to breathe as Danviel asked for his guarantee, and the urge to kiss those perfect lips returned like a tide washing over him. To hell with it! a quiet voice swore in the back of his mind, and before he had a chance to rethink his impetuosity, he let the desire overwhelm him and brushed his lips softly against Danviel's. “Yes.” he responded breathlessly.

Davniel was painfully aware of the human’s immediate proximity. He was ravenously hungry in more ways than one. Jackson was so close that he could hear his heart beating and feel his rhythmic pulse coursing through his veins. He inhaled his musky scent so he could memorize it. He could taste it in his salivating mouth. He wanted him so much. But, what about Josh?
Would he be betraying his deceased lover by partaking of natures pleasures with this walking talking object of desire? No, Josh would want him to move on. Josh would want him to stop living in misery. Suddenly Jackson was closer. He was so close he could lean just a tiny bit forward and taste his moist and supple lips. His breath smelled like coffee and some kind of sweet pastry. Just when he didn’t think he could refrain from kissing those perfect lips, they were suddenly bushing against his own. It happened so fast he could not react before his lips felt abandoned and lonely without the contact of silk against silk.
Danviel lifted a delicate eyebrow and grinned. “Do you think I am going to let you get away with that, Jackson?” he inquired mischievously. He moved so swiftly, there would be no chance of Jackson moving. One hand gripped the back of Jackson’s neck and his other gripped his waste. He roughly pulled him close and kissed him like a starving lover in heat. His sculpted body reacted with a shuddering shiver and a stiff member. He would have done more but the sun was now causing him great stinging discomfort. He broke the deep kiss and pressed his mildly scented clean-shaven cheek to Jackson's. “Blue Lagoon, sundown…we will definitely continue this.”
He knew he needed to get away from Jackson or he would risk injuring himself to stay with him. He nipped his ear and let go of him then utilized all the speed he possessed to run in a blur to his house. He slammed the door and leaned against it. He grinned, thinking of that brief, yet intense kiss for just a few seconds. He touched his lips with his fingertips before stepping away from the door. Retiring for the day would have been an impossibility had it not been for his biological compulsion to sleep.
He woke suddenly, the moment his body was released from the suns influence. It was all he could do to contain his enthusiasm as he showered with the spice scented soap he has won in a poker game. His cock was so hard he had no choice but to alleviate his discomfort with a quick self service session. Of course his thoughts were that of Jackson’s mouth wrapped snuggly around his stiff cock. The session was short and sweet but not even close to being enough to stem his need for physical contact.
He dressed all in black, just like he aways did. Pressed black slacks, black muscle tee, black slim cut oxford and black motorcycle boots. He carefully combed his jet black hair then ran his long, strong fingers through it to mess it up to perfection. He applied spice scented cologne sparingly over his neck. One last look told him that he was ready to meet his Adonis. The sun was now completely sunken below the valley’s mountainous horizon.
Once again at insanely blinding vampire speed, he ran. It took him roughly sixty excruciatingly long seconds to make the short trip. As short as it was, the trip seemed to take several eternities. He resumed human speed when he entered the dark and smoky establishment. He reserved a private booth and described the gorgeous young man that planned to meet him. The concierge led him to a private room that was protected by a heavy velvet curtain that was designed to drown out sounds, perfect. He slid into the long, wide leather upholstered booth that was just barely wide enough for two to lay across and ordered an O negative. Now, all that was left to do was wait impatiently.

For a split second Jackson thought that he might have pushed the vampire too far by stealing a kiss like that, but it had just felt too right to keep fighting the feeling and he couldn't bring himself to let the vampire walk away with a simple handshake, though now Danviel looked... surprised? There was a turn up for the books, and Jackson could only hope it turned out to be a good one. When Danviel grinned at him, Jackson knew that he had made no mistake.
Still he was startled when he found himself quite suddenly held in the vampires arms. He hadn't even blinked and the vampire had pulled him hard against his tall, lean body, a firm hand on the back of his neck as his hungry mouth devoured Jackson's in a deep and passionate kiss. He was lost for breath as his lips parted welcoming the forceful attention, and he marvelled at how soft were Danviel's lips even as he felt just how hard other parts of him, now digging into him demandingly, had become.
Then just as suddenly, with a whispered promise and a teasing nip, Danviel released him and vanished in dark blur, leaving Jackson stood breathless and trembling in the morning sunlight. He simply stood like that for a long minute, feeling his hands shaking and trying to remember how to breathe. He ran his tongue over his lips savouring the taste of that too brief kiss and he shivered at the delightful memory of those soft well shaped fingers against his neck.
Jackson was grinning like a Cheshire cat and he realised he was going to be wearing that same goofy expression all day long. Sundown could not come soon enough and the day's shift seemed to last longer than any other, though he knew it wasn't. More than once he found himself imagining being held like that again... peeling away Danviel's tight black jeans to reach the treasure he had felt inside. Jackson threw himself harder into his work, trying to lose himself again in the physical exertion.
When it came around to call quitting time there were several of the crew already exchanging nudges and whispers. “You coming out to the bar tonight Jay?” one asked with a grin. The others barely suppressing snickers. Yeah, he knew then that he had been grinning again. “Sorry boys, got me other plans tonight.” he smirked back at them. It was damned obvious he'd had someone on his mind all day, but they could whistle if they thought he was gonna spill just who.
Back in his apartment, shaved and showered, Jackson glared at his woefully understocked wardrobe. What did you wear at a place like the Blue Lagoon? It looked like the answer was going to be whatever you happened to have. He shrugged and just hoped they didn't have some weird dress code. He picked out a clean pair of dark blue comfort fit jeans as he realised that jeans were in fact all the pants he owned. A white vest with a light grey shirt over, which he didn't fasten, made up the rest of his limited ensemble. His boots however were freshly polished, it was important to look after good boots.
He caught one of the buses tonight to get to his destination. He didn't generally bother with them and just jogged where he needed to go, but tonight felt like a special occasion. Jackson was a little apprehensive as he approached the club, it seemed very ...upmarket. But he never let little things like that deter him from a good time. He put on a confident smile and walked straight in. The ambiance surprised him and he wondered how he was going to find Danviel in a place like this.
When the concierge made a beeline for him, Jackson's immediate thought was that he was about to get kicked out and he tried not to look too overwhelmingly relieved when the man simply offered to show him to the correct booth. Now he was actually there he could feel his heart racing faster in anticipation. The concierge left him by the heavy curtain, and feeling a little giddy he brushed past it and slipped inside.
