The day had been long, and still Amanda found herself working late. Nathan's campaign was coming up and there were still tons of things that needed to be finalized. She moved about the plush carpet of their home still in her work clothes but at a relaxed way, the jacket to the suit she wore was off, leaving the fitted button up shirt beneath to be seen, several of the buttons were undone revealing just the top curve of her breasts. She had kicked off her shoes and stood at the desk one leg bent toes tipped to the carpet; her hand braced the table by the papers that she was looking over; one hand curled to her honey blonde locks the fingers entwined back and forth while she absently twirled her hair.
God, all the words had started to jumble together, and she felt as if she had been reading nothing but gibberish for the last twelve hours. A sight parted her lips as she looked up finally, her hand lifted to the back of her neck rubbing over her sore shoulders and muscles as she turned to go get herself a drink, Nathan had a few meetings and things he needed to take care of so she had come home without him ahead of time. Allowing him the time to do what he did best which was get all things taken care of she couldn't.
Moving into the kitchen her gaze traveled over the counter and strayed to the counter who had once held all the bottles of alcohol she would have consumed in a time like this. Her thoughts drifting forward from the back of her mind, she shook her head and had to laugh at herself as she turned and grabbed a glass, her fingers trailed over the edge, and the glass started to chill the slight form of ice coating the glass. Before she moved to the sink, turning on the tap, she let the water run for a little closing her eyes, she listened to the sound and let herself drift off the sound of the water soothed her. Finally, she opened her eyes shifted the icy glass towards the stream of water and began to fill it.
Once the glass was full she turned off the water and wandered back to the window of their apartment, glancing only towards the papers on the desk she looked back out into the night staring at the city lights. Leaning her head on the window, she closed her eyes and smiled. Soon hopefully Nathan would be home, and they could go over the coming plans of his campaign.

Doing a favor for Gavin had been a bad idea. While he had taken the mutant to safety, he had also taken the time to fly into Utah, to the old Salt Lake City to see if the rumors about the place were true. What he found there was both frightening and disturbing. The human settlement there, which looked like a Utopian camp of some sort with a high wall around it was filled with what looked like normal people, clean cut, well fed humans. After a short hour of reconnaissance, he watched as a young man, who had apparently broke the rules was thrown off the high wall, into the horde of zombies that surrounded place. Just as Gavin had told him, the people there were nuts, feeding the zombies humans who broke the rules.
They had seen him and fired at him, the bullets only bounced off him, even if they did hurt like a bitch. He had flown towards Colorado to throw them off his origin before turning for home. He would need to tell Thor about this. If those zombies were ever turned on New Vegas, it would be an epic disaster. As he was flying he had seen a nest mound that was where slags resided in the daytime. That would need to be exterminated, easy enough, they just had to blow it up in the daytime.
Now, exhausted from all the flying, Nathan was feeling that sick feeling he got from overdoing it. But if he were to be Mayor of New Vegas, he had to make sure it was safe, especially for Amanda since they both wanted children. He found that he was not able to keep his altitude as he entered the city, he was overheating again. It was by the grace of god that he made it to the balcony and fell to the floor. “Amanda!” he called out as he pulled himself up and staggered into the suite, “Cold…cold water.” He called out. He could already feel the fever spreading over his body. Quickly he fumbled to get his clothes off. When he was younger, the overheating had nearly killed him so he knew he needed to cool off fast. “Oh god…Babe, I’m hot.” He complained.

Amanda was lost in her thoughts. Her eyes had closed as she leaned there against the pane of the glass her breath in a steady rhythm calmed her down even more. Perhaps she should go to bed and wait for Nathan. It was late they could talk in the morning. She had just turned with the glass of water in her hands still frigidly cold and started back towards the kitchen. That was when she heard the sound of Nathan's body falling to the balcony floor. Amanda turned quickly as he called her name. " Nathan?!" her clear worry and surprise showed on her face as she rushed towards him the water in her hand already cooling off more as she quickly stepped to his side and handed him the chilled glass of water.
God he was burning up. Her eyes shifted to the freezer where she could have gotten him more ice, but that would take too long. As she pushed the glass into his hands. " Drink this." She shooed his hands from his clothes and quickly deftly her hands began to get his clothes from his body. "You have been over working yourself." Her frown formed showed that she was worried and disappointed that this had happened. He meant the world to her, and the loss of him scared the hell out of her. Shifting him carefully she willed her own power to life in her touch. Her fingers cooled, and she started to position and maneuver him into her body as she herself started to strip down to just her underwear. Her hands positioned him better against her body, so she could more easily access all the places on the body to lower his body temp as fast as she could. Things she watched other mothers do to help lower the fevers of children who got sick.
Finally, she chilled her own body making sure to keep herself from over processing him as well though his fever ate at the chill of her body. " Yes, You are hot but how do you explain this fever you are running?" Joking about the situation as best she could trying to hide the fact that he had literally just made her heart feel as if it was about to jump from her chest. She dusted a kiss to the side of his cheek as she curled to him working to cool him down as best she could at the moment. " I have missed you today. I worried you wouldn't be home to go to bed with me tonight." Amanda had a way of hiding things that scared her Nathan would know of that. They talked of children together, but she knew that he was doing what he could to make sure that New Vegas was the place they could do just that. Him as the Mayor was the first of many steps.
Her hand lifted to brush through his hair now as she kept herself chilling him lightly to the core. Her eyes closed as she took a deep breath and forced her own heart rate to slow down now and steady its self out. "Are you alright?" Finally, the truth of her worry showed now as she stopped joking and waited to hear his answer. Still being careful not to freeze him completely.

Nathan gladly took the ice cold glass of water and downed it. Even the brain freeze that came from drinking the almost frozen water was welcome, since it told him his most important organ, his brain, was chilled. That in itself was the most important thing since high fevers caused brain damage.
Nathan knew about Amanda's abilities, just as she knew his. Not many things could hurt him, unless they managed to get under his skin or came from under it. This overheating happened when he went too fast for too long or too far. He knew it happened but he never knew how far or fast he had to go to actually overheat. He would need to clock it one day so he had an idea of how much he could manage with out incapacitating himself.
"Yeah, I had to though, Babe. I reconned that place in Utah, and I saw a slag nest on the way back." he informed her through panting breaths. Her cold body was welcome against his, especially now that his clothes were off. He knew she would not get the wrong idea when he moved her hand to cup his testicles, since that was the first place the doctors put ice packs to cool him off, not to mention thats where their children would come from and a high fever could devastate that idea if all his soldiers were killed.
Nathan clung to Amanda, ignoring the steam they were creating between the two of them and the condensation that dripped to the floor, he actually thought that was kind of cool that they could make steam together. Too bad it was only when he overworked his abilities.
By the time she asked if he was alright, he was beginning to shiver, "Mhmm, I think so." he said through chattering teeth and pushed himself away from her just a bit to keep from freezing himself out. "That chill should stick with me as long as my core needs to cool off." he stepped back forward and kissed her on the forehead, "Thank you for saving me." he chuckled. This was not the first time and it probably would not be the last. "But you know I had to do this. Those people in that settlement are insane, you wouldn't believe what they are doing. And that slag nest, it is way too close to New Vegas." He felt the warm creeping in and pulled her close again.
"I guess this is a bad one." he muttered, "Why don't we lay down, it will be easier to equalize under the covers." he suggested.

Amanda knew what Nathan was doing and so when her hand was moved, she smiled. "I was so worried about you." No she didn't get the wrong idea as she appreciated that he was looking out for the future of their children as well. Her hand massaged lightly, and her body shifted as she kept herself cool until she was sure he was coming down. " I understand your responsibilities Nathan, I just don't want you pushing yourself so hard that I lose you. What good would it have done us with the Recon if you never made it back? If you pushed too far and ended up lost or forgetting me?" Her worry showed on her face as she spoke.
Lightly, she brushed kisses to his cheek and lips as best she could calming down from the shock of seeing him in this predicament. She watched the collection of condensation from their bodies and smiled lightly reaching for her hand to freeze a small puddle of water that had built beneath them only to watch it melt once again as soon as she lost contact. Feeling him pull away from her and hearing his chattering teeth, she blushed a little and smiled. " Sorry I guess I held on a bit to long. " Releasing him for the time she started to move. Then smiled as he soon enough pulled her back in.
"Your welcome my love. " Her hand cupped to the side of his face as she began to kiss him in return. " Alright bad sounds good anyway. I was actually thinking of going to bed before you got here I was getting pretty tired." Though now she was wired and wide awake after the adrenaline rush, he had given her with that scare. She listened to him about the people. " What are they doing in the settlement?" curiosity getting the better of her now she stopped worrying too much or sounding like the lecturing lover and more of the worried young woman who showed she had compassion for people around her. The mention of the slag nest had her shiver. " Mm that is definitely not good, so I can understand, and I'm glad that you found out about it and can get it hopefully fixed.
Moving with him towards the bedroom she turned down the covers and crawled in waiting for him to join her now her gaze shifting over his form as she smiled. He was her weakness this she knew. If only he knew how much, she loved him. Oh she believed he knew she loved him that wasn't the doubt just how much she did was the question that drifted through her mind.

Nathan began shivering but that was just the fever, “I could never forget you, Amanda.” He said lovingly. “I love you too much to ever forget you.” He wanted to push the cold away but he needed her. Not only the cold she offered to cool the fire within him, he needed to feel her touching him. He had seen horrific things and even if he wasn’t in desperate need of her ability, he would be in her arms.
“They were feeding humans to zombies. It looked like some kind of religious cult.” He explained briefly, “When the king hears about this…” he broke off, not needing to finish. The king would be furious about even one human being killed without good reason. He didn’t want to think about it anymore. The slags would be easy to deal with, one good daylight bomb and it was over for them.
Nathan let her lead him to the bed. He was beginning to feel too weak to stand, his knees threatening to buckle. He collapsed into the bed and let her pull the covers over them. The cold radiating off her made him shiver more but he knew he needed to cool down and stay cool. Fatigue overtook him and he succumbed to it, letting himself fall into that fitful sleep that always came with his fevers.
When Nathan woke, it was with a startle yelp then a groan of pain. His body felt like he had been beaten all night and his head felt thick and heavy. The headache would last for hours unless he still had more of the medicine Thor gave him for the migraines. He groaned again and opened his eyes, “Amanda?” he whimpered softly.

Amanda felt Nathan's shivering her arms tightened around him just a little more. Her smile formed as she heard him tell her that he could never forget her. Her fingers absently pulled through his hair the cooling touch easing away the fire of the fever that raged through his veins. "I should know better by now than to tease you when you are like this. Even though I love hearing those words every time you say them." She was hiding her worry over him as best she could without the usual source of her failures and disappointments. Which normally would have been lifting a tumbler of liquor to her lips and allowing the alcohol to invade her senses. The thoughts were pushed away; It was better like this sober able to enjoy the words and feel of Nathan with her.
As he spoke of the humans feeding people to the zombies like some kind of religious cult, she cringed inward and outwardly. " You can't be serious." It was a statement not that she really doubted him just the thought was appalling to her. Eyes closed, and she sighed. " You are right the King needs to hear about this as soon as possible." As she had stood and began to lead him to the bedroom during this time she felt the slowness of his movements and gently eased him into the bed. The covers were pulled up over them giving that cool and warmth that twisted between them almost like the effects of icy hot. As his breathing evened out Amanda slowly started to let the ebb of her powers shimmer away so that she didn't' over expose him to her. She kept her arms about him and thought over what he had said. The king was going to be furious and the thoughts of what he would do gave her a shiver.
Laying beside him, she watched him sleep, she stayed that way for a good while before she eased from the bed and stood to gather their clothing and clean up letting him get the rest he needed. She had made some warm tea and finished up getting the papers in order that he would need later. She had wrapped a robe about her and tied it loosely at her waist the blue satin of the short robe fitting to her form in a gentle comforting way. She made some breakfast and had just started to settle things on a tray along with the medication Thor had given Nathan for his migraines.
When she heard the stirrings in the other room of Nathan waking up. " Coming." She called lightly sure not to raise her voice to much so that the noise wouldn't hurt his head as she gathered the tray and moved into the room. " How are you feeling? " Her worry showed on her face as she settled the tray on the stand next to the bed and offered him the medicine and a glass of water first. Her hair was slightly messy as she had rested for a little while only. Easing down to the side of the bed next to him still offering the items waiting for him to take them.

Nathan reached out and took the medicine and drank the whole glass of water. It was always perfectly chilled when Amanda gave him water. He never drank anything but water since stimulants had no effect on him. “Thank you.” He said softly and lay back down, waiting for the medicine to take effect. The Vampires were good at making medicines that worked and it was hard for him to find anything that would work in his body. Thor had somehow had the lab formulate something to help him without tipping them off as to his mutant status.
“I feel much better, thanks to you.” He added and reached for her hand. He stroked her hand lovingly with his thumb. “Are you ready for another day?” he asked and smiled softly. As much as he would like to stay home and lay about in their bed, he knew he didn’t have time to waste. He had a campaign to run and it would not get done without him…or Amanda. “My right hand… woman.” He grinned. He eyed the food as his stomach rumbled. He laughed, you’re cooking always wakes my stomach up.” He chuckled.
“Did the bellboy bring my suit up from the cleaners for the rally?” he asked curiously. She was always so good at handling details so that he could focus on making his speeches and studying the laws. He was not born to politics but he was a born politician. Not one of the empty worded yes men that would say anything to get elected but one of the good ones, who really cared about the people and the city. Thor knew that at that was why he was chosen. Only Thor and a select few others actually knew he was a mutant and they all wanted him in office. There were many reasons, but one was the fact that he could not be assassinated like many of his predecessors.

Amanda smiled as she watched Nathan take the medication and drink down the water. Secretly, Amanda was thankful to Thor so much so for the medicine he had provided for Nathan; she knew that his powers were strong and hard to bear. Her own were as well but nothing that seemed to incapacitate her as bad as Nathan. However, she had her other weakness's old vices that even now lingered on the Periferal of her mind. Her tongue slipped out to moisten her lower lip while she watched him.
" You are welcome love." Her beautiful smile formed as her hand went to his as if a magnet drawn to metal. Nathan was her strength, especially while she battled her own past of an alcoholic ghost. While she felt the brush of his hand to her own, she smiled and nodded looking down to their hands joined. " Yes, I am ready for this day, as long as I have you by my side. " She gave him a wickedly sinful smile then as he called her his right hand woman. " Ahh the truth comes out it explains why I'm always so busy. " With a wink, she released his hand and leaned forward her lips brushed to his with a quick kiss. " You should eat up before the little zombie in your stomach decides to pop out and eat for you." Chuckling as his stomach rumbled with its sound. Shifting then up to, she moved the tray a little, so he could easily reach it and stood slipping the robe from her shoulders to hang on a hook while she moved towards the bathroom.
Stopping at the closet to pick out her own outfit for the day a dark pantsuit that made her look professional and regal. The light-blue halter top that would fit beneath the jacket of the suit was added while she went about eyeing her shoes next. Always making sure that she was perfection for Nathan. " Yes, he did it's in your closet." She would motion to his own closet across the way. " I made sure to hang it in the front so that you could find it easier. " Her voice carrying that lilt of laughter and pleasure at the slight worry he had that perhaps she had been off her game and forgotten his suit. Her world was Nathan and making sure that he did what Thor, and the rest of New Vegas needed of him.
"Did you finish your final presentation? I waited for you so that you could do one more read through with me last night, but after you were late I finished up instead of making sure that all your appointments were still on for today, and all the meetings covered and places so that you have an apt amount of time to get to them comfortably. " She had noticed that lately he has been busy more and more and made sure to give him time to cool off or work through things without feeling swamped and consumed. Moving then towards the bathroom she slipped inside long enough to turn on the water and prepare the temperature before stepping back out into the room in search of a towel. " I'll leave the door cracked if you want to practice while I get myself cleaned up some. " Leaving it open for him to do what he did best and prepare as well as eat while they chatted. These were the moments Amanda lived for the ones that made her happy. Even if they were few and far between as of late she took pleasure in knowing for these few moments Nathan was no one else but hers. She was after all a woman who was sharing her Love with the rest of New Vegas, she had to be understanding.
