Giovanni ran at a full gallop. He had to get there in time. He could not believe his stroke of luck as he carried the shiny silver object in his hand. He felt like grinning but this was serious business and Gio very rarely grinned. The object had fallen from a parade float.
He never understood what the brightly colored vehicles were that sometimes passed the park in a long row with people watching and smiling, but today, one was silver colored and a shiny silver object shaped like a rose fell off one and rolled under a fence. He had heard a child gasp at the site of him when he quickly stepped out of the cover of trees to grab it.
“Look! Its Giovanni! Mama! I saw him!” there were every gasps and people ran to the fence, trying to get a glimpse of the only known centaur in existence as he ran. He couldn’t think about why people always got so excited when they saw him. Right now he was just focused on getting it to where he wanted it to be, before the time that he knew it absolutely had to be there.
The few humans, who were allowed in the park during the day, looked to the sky and wondered if rain was scheduled for today when they heard the rumble that filled the air when he got close enough to hear. But the creatures of the small forest knew the sound of thunder meant Giovanni was running. His powerful hooves hit the ground with a heavy thud and hurled him forward with every great stride. He had to hurry, he was going to be late! He took a mighty leap over a fallen log as he plunged through the evergreen brush then broke into the meadow surrounding the small lake. He skidded to a stop then ran for the cover of the willow tree. He slowly peaked out to see if she was there. She wasn’t…he was in time.
For he could not let her see him place the object on the small stone where he always left little gifts and trinkets. Usually it was just small objects that had been discarded by the humans. Colored strings, beads, shiny coins, poker chips and the like were most common, but this…this was different. He knew she would love it.
It was shiny like spun silver but it was light, like the material poker chips were made of, and best of all, it was shaped like a rose but it seemed indestructible. Yes, she would love this. But as always, he was too shy to let her know it was him who left it. He quickly stepped out of the long tresses of the weeping willow tree, just enough to place the object on the stone, then he quickly hid again, where he could see her face when she saw it.
Out on the lake he heard a tiny splash and moved his head just slightly so he could get a better look. The moment he saw her he held his breath and froze. His mouth was held in a straight line but the look of hopeful concern betrayed his excitement at her discovering the gift. He didn’t move a muscle as he saw the most beautiful thing in the world emerge from the water to discover her gift.

It was time.
The mermaid lurked deep within the darkness of the pond. She knew dusk was approaching. Her favorite time where she could leave the confines of this small pond and become human. She could escape her watery prison and feel the grass between her toes. She hated how her time was limited but the mermaid would not complain. Little time is better than no time.
This was also the time where humans would come and watch her sing in exchange for gifts...oh how she adored her shiny objects. The mermaid began to swim up from the depths of the pond. She swam as much she could before reaching the surface. With skill and agility of a dolphin, Arianna jumped from the waters and flipped before diving into the waters again.
She heard the humans applause at her performance. The mermaid swam onto a rock that lied in the middle of the pond for everyone to see. She pulled her body up on the rock with ease and sat straight as her hands rested on her beautiful, blue tail. Her skin and scales began to glow slightly from the sun's remaining rays.
The mermaid closed her eyes and breathed in the sweet air. Everything went silent. It was as if nature itself was watching her. Arianna brought her right hand up and gently held the small pearl draped around her neck and began to sing. Her mezzo-soprano voice filling The Sanctuary with her soft, yet powerful voice. Arianna did not know any songs...just what was in her heart. This day, Arianna was thinking of her parents.
Her tones were beautiful, yet filled with sadness. She missed them dearly and will never forget what they had done for her. This day, she sang for them as tears began to trickle from her eyes. Within minutes, her song ended and the mermaid dove into the waters once more, awaiting for the humans to leave. When they left, Arianna's head resurfaced and she looked around at the objects they left. She searched around until something seemed to shin from the sun's remaining ways.
The mermaid's eyes widened and swam towards it. She reached her arms over the edge and smiled softly. It was a beautiful, silver object shaped like a rose. It was left in the spot someone would always leave for her. She did not know this person as no one ever stood in this place when she performed.
Arianna brought the rose to her chest and held it against her heart. A sweet smile formed on her lips. "Thank you...whomever you are." The mermaid had a feeling who it was...she knew it was her guardian...her thunder.
"My thunder...my guardian...when will you let me see you..."

Gio stayed perfectly still but he had to begin breathing softly after a moment. One corner of his mouth twitched up slightly to see that she loved the gift. He wanted to find more like it. Maybe the next time the blonde man came to the park, he would ask for it. But he would have to show him in his mind what he wanted, and he might show him the woman of his desire in the process. Was he willing to do that?
He wondered if maybe one day he could try to learn to use his voice. He never had and he wondered if it would even work. Did he have a voice? He wasn't sure.
"Thank you...whomever you are."
He blushed furiously and took a step further back. He wanted so much to talk to her but his heart was beating like a hummingbirds.
"My thunder...my guardian...when will you let me see you..."
That was all it took for him to bolt like a wild horse. In on mighty leap he was through the brush and into the forest, running away toward his home that was built out of a cave. He didnt slow down until he got there. Inside the cave, all over the wall were charcoal drawings of the mermaid. He looked at them and sighed. How could such a beauty ever want a mute beast like himself. He picked up a piece of charcoal and began touching up some of the drawings.

The mermaid heard the sound of thunder near her and gasped slightly. Was he there the whole time? Had he been watching her all this time? Arianna's eyes began to tear and she bit her lip. Why did he run from her? He was so close to her...just a few more steps and she would have known who he was...why...why did it have to be this way?
Arianna turned around with her back to the edge and kept herself afloat with the aid of her tail. She caressed the rose petals of the metallic object and smiled as she began to hum. This was by far the most precious thing she had...the mermaid swore to keep it safe. Arianna let out a soft sigh and held it to her heart. One day she would see her guardian...one day she would thank him for everything he had done for her.
Arianna continued to hum as she caressed her new object. She was in her own little world now. This was short lived as she felt two sets of arms grab her and hoisted her out of the water. The mermaid gasped as her body was thrown to the ground. Her tail smacked the grass and she held the object close to her chest, swearing to protect it.
The mermaid glared at the two men, "Leave me alone!"
The two men stumbled and laughed,
"Oh she talks!"
"I wonder if she can scream to..."
One of the man grabbed the mermaid by the throat and lifted her up with ease. Arianna gasped for air and attempted to wriggle free from his gasp but failed. The man dropped the mermaid to the floor and she groaned. The other man kicked Arianna to the side and she let out a scream in agony. Arianna began to crawl towards the water but one of the men grabbed her by the tail and dragged her away from her watery home. Arianna rolled onto her stomach and held the precious object to her chest.
One of the men began to laugh, "Guess she can scream...god damn freak..."
The other man began to walk closer, "Maybe we should put the fish out of her misery."
Arianna narrowed her eyes and with every ounce of energy she had, she smacked the man's legs with her tail, tripping him and lifted her tail up before slamming it down on his chest. The man coughed and gasped for air as the other man ran to the mermaid and pulled the object out of her hand before kicking her to the side.
The mermaid let out another scream and reached out to the object, "That is mine! Let it go!"
The man grinned, "What's so special about this piece of crap fish bitch?"
The mermaid glared at the human, "Because my thunder gave it to me.."
The man threw the object against the tree and walked towards Arianna. He grabbed her by the throat and lifted her up, squeezing her neck tightly. The mermaid instinctively brought her hands to his arm, attempting to break the grip. Arianna gasped and prayed this would end soon...she couldn't take the constant attacks anymore. Her only regret...is not being able to see her thunder.

Gio, or Thunder as everyone called him, picked up another piece of charcoal from the small clay pot which held the burnt up remnants of dead wood he burned at night for light and warmth. The charcoal bits made excellent drawing implements. He carefully shaded the sweep of her perfect nose, gently sweeping back and forth over each line, crisscrossing one another until the density was correct.
Charcoal drawing was a lot like life; one mistake and the whole thing would be ruined. Damn it. Her eye wasn’t quite up to par. Curling his forearm around so he didn’t drag his wrist through the new charcoal he’d laid, he tried to fix what was wrong, shaping the lower lid so the curve of it was more angled. His strokes marked up the cave wall nicely enough. But the eye still wasn’t working. Yeah, not right, and he should know, considering how much time he’d spent drawing her over and over again.
He tilted his head to the side to see if a change in viewing angle would help. Nope. Still not right. And neither was the hair, actually. Whatever. She was beyond lovely anyway, and the rest of her face was as he usually depicted her: Her loving stare was to the right, her lashes silhouetted, her gaze showing a combination of warmth and devotion.
Then he heard the scream. Who was screaming? Was that….? It was her!!! His mermaid was in danger. He dropped the charcoal and bolted out of the cave at a full gallop. The distance was not far from his cave. He had chosen the location due to the proximity of the clear fresh water lake. The mermaid moving into the lake had just been icing on the cake. Back to the present, Thunder’s hooves hit the ground with a deafening roar as he jumped over the hedges that surrounded the lake. He did not hesitate to go straight for the man who had his hands on his mermaid. He reared up behind the man and with a swift kick to the back of his head caused him to drop her. He lay still on the ground as a pool of blood spilled out of his head and spread over the ground. He turned on the other man, picking him up and flinging him through the air into a tree truck with a sickening crack. He too lay still and broken, most likely dead.
Once the threat had been taken care of, he turned back to his lovely beauty. He quickly knelt at her side and scooped her up off the ground with his muscular arms. He carried her into the water until his powerful legs were completely submerged and he allowed her to float with his arms supporting her. His thoughts were only for her concern. He projected that towards her with his mind, inquiring as to her health…was she alright? Did they hurt her much? What could he do to ease her pain? Did she know how much he lov....err, could he get her anything?

Arianna closed her eyes and her body slowly went limp from the lack of air. Her arms dropped helplessly to her sides as she let out small; weak; helpless gasps. Her only thoughts were of her guardian. How she wanted to see him...to thank him for everything he had done for her. The gifts he brought her and how he protected her from harm. Arianna began hearing the roaring of thunder and her eyes slowly widened.
Arianna felt the man drop her to the ground and she inhaled the fresh air deeply before coughing. The mermaid shook her head slightly and looked on the ground to see the man lying on the ground as a pool of blood began to surround his body. He was dead. Arianna heard a loud thud against the tree and looked to see the other man lying on the ground, lifeless.
Arianna shook her head once more, confused and felt someone sweep her off her feet or rather, tail. The mermaid looked up to see a handsome man and went wide eyed. It was him. His dark toned skin...his dark hair...his deep gorgeous eyes...Arianna knew it was him...it had to be. For all this time...her guardian was finally revealing himself to her. She felt water surround her body and let out a soft sigh at the feeling. It was as if she was out of water for days...
Arianna looked deep into her guardian's eyes. The mermaid's eyes were filled with nothing but gratefulness and warmth toward her savior. She felt thoughts of concern project into her head. They were not her thoughts...it wasn't her mental voice...it was his. Arianna felt safe in the centaur's arms...she did not want to be anywhere else.
The mermaid's eyes began to mist and she smiled sweetly. "You are here..." Arianna brought her left hand to his cheek and caressed his perfect face. Her thunder was finally here...holding her within the safety of the water...she could not have wished for a better moment than this. "You came for me...you saved me again..." The mermaid teared slightly. They were not tears of sorrow...but of happiness.
"My thunder...finally...I can see you...feel you..." Arianna brought her hand down to his chest and caressed his muscular form. The mermaid looked deep into his eyes once more, "Thank you...for everything you have done for me...there are no words to describe my gratefulness..." The mermaid brought her left hand to his heart and felt the pain within the centaur.
She felt the loneliness lying in his heart...she felt his pain...Arianna wanted to take it all away. "My guardian...why do you feel this way?" The mermaid weakly wrapped her arms around his neck and breathed in his scent. She clung onto him, not wanting to be separated. Now she had her thunder...her warrior...she did not want to let him go.
"Don't leave me...please. I have longed to see you..." She rested her head on his chest and let out a broken sigh, "I have wanted to see the face hidden in the willows."

Thunder reached a hand to Arianna’s cheek and sent thoughts of reassurance to her. He didn’t want her to worry about him. He just wanted to make sure she was alright and that she knew he would always be close by, no one would ever hurt her again. He didn’t mean to let the thought slip that he knew someone and beautiful as her would never want to be with a beast like him. His eyes darted away from her eyes for a moment. He was much like a wild horse, shy, yet powerful, wild, yet brave, weary of the world yet bigger than life. He was the embodiment of legend, standing straight and tall, watching over the fabled creatures of the sanctuary diligently. He was surrounded by creatures of legend. Yet…he was so lonely.
He shook his head again and held her against him. He sent thoughts of him in the willows, watching and never leaving her alone. He longed to be with her always, but he was a beastly abomination of nature and she was pure enchanting grace. She deserved a handsome prince, not a man who was half horse. He leaned his head back so he could look at her. He knew this moment could not last. He wanted to see her face at the same time he felt her body against his. She was so beautiful it brought tears to his eyes.

Arianna looked deep into the centaur's eyes as his thoughts were projected into her mind. She smiled as he said he would never let anyone hurt her again. The mermaid knew that more than anyone. He was her thunder...her might guardian. Arianna knew he would always come to her in her time of need...even if she never saw him. The mermaid frowned when he believed he was not good enough for her.
The mermaid shook her head and placed her hand over his heart; feeling the loneliness in his heart once more. Arianna began to tear and looked up at the centaur, "My guardian...do not think such things." She removed her hand from his heart and kissed it, as if attempting to heal the pain within. "The mermaid placed her hand on his cheek, "You are the embodiment of all that is beautiful and strong...you are a hero...I have never seen such righteousness in any creature."
The mermaid let out a broken sigh, attempting to withhold the tears of sadness she felt for him. She saw the images he projected into her mind and smiled, "You never left me...you have always watched over me..." She caressed his cheek with her thumb. "So close...yet so far...how I have wanted to touch you...and thank you..."
The mermaid wrapped her arms around the centaur''s neck and pulled her body up, "You are not alone anymore...let me be the one to take your pain away...I have been waiting for you for so long...and I won't let you go.." Arianna rested her head on his chest, hearing his powerful heartbeat. She began to hum...her tone soft...as if a lullaby. "I can't..." The mermaid began to tear, "I can't be without you my guardian..."
Arianna looked up at the handsome centaur and placed his hand against her bare chest, over her heart. "This belongs to you...my heart is your's." Arianna wrapped her arms around the centaur and pulled herself up so her lips were not an inch from his own, and whispered "You are not alone anymore...." With that the mermaid closed her eyes and pressed her lips upon her thunder's...

Thunder blushed at her words. He was only doing what he vowed to do. He was only protecting the sanctuary and the woman he loved. It was his job. But for her to think that he was good enough for her was like Christmas. She had wanted to see him; that much he knew but he always thought if she did see him, she would be angry that he was the one.
Of course he never left her. How could he? He loved her. Oh no, did she hear that? Would she be angry that he loved her? Wait, what? He was not alone? She wouldn’t let him go? Did that mean he had a chance? Did it mean he had a chance at happiness, that he could do what he always wanted to do; make her happy?
He leaned into her, overwhelmed by emotions. He never dreamed in a million years that she would want him. She was all he ever wanted.
"This belongs to you...my heart is your's."
He beamed with happiness as she pulled herself up and he shifted his arms to hold her in her new position securely. He would never let her go. He folded his arms around her and melted into her kiss. It was something he dreamed about since he first saw her. He projected his memory of the day he first saw her, how he loved her from that moment and his vow to always keep her safe on that day as he kissed her. He never thought this day would come.

Arianna let out a soft moan as the centaur kissed her back. She saw the images he projected into her mind once more and couldn't help but feel her heart beat quicken. She knew he loved her...how he has always been there for her. Arianna broke the kiss and caressed her thunder's cheek lovingly. Her eyes showing nothing but love and devotion for her guardian. The mermaid looked up at the sky and smiled,
"Dusk is approaching..." She looked back at the centaur and moved up to kiss his cheek softly, "Let us walk together my thunder...let us take in the The Sanctuary when I am free from my watery prison." She wrapped her arms around the centaur and kissed his lips once more,
"I never want to leave your side...my thunder...I never will...I am your's for as long as you will have me." The mermaid blushed slightly and caressed his cheek once more; admiring his beauty. "So handsome...so strong...so loving...I could not ask for more."

Giovanni felt like the luckiest man alive. He was finally going to be with his love. This was also going to be the first time he accepted the human transformation. He never wanted it before so he never allowed himself to change. He felt lost when the loving kiss was broken. It was as if he never knew he was holding his breath and suddenly he was breathing and she was his air. He held her close, not wanting to let her go. He looked at the sky and felt the tingle that he normally would have fought. Once again he accepted her kiss and once again he felt mournful at its end. But he felt great joy in knowing he could kiss her any time he wanted, from now on. Then the transformation began. It was more painful than he thought it would be as his body began to double in on itself. He had four legs that had to turn into two and two had to disappear. He grimaced as he lost his grip on her but tried to regain it. He noticed she was changing too. Suddenly his legs buckled and he dipped down into the water below the surface. He didn't know how to stand on just two legs and he didn't know how to swim. Panic and pain gripped him as the transformation completed but he could not stand up in the water.

As dusk finally approached, the mermaid gasped as the change began. She gritted her teeth and looked at her arms as her fins returned to her body. The change always hurt, but Arianna was used to the pain. The mermaid felt her thunder lose his grip on her and watched as he sank down into the water. Arianna went wide eyed and dove into the water.
She felt her tail split in two and arched her back at the pain, but that did not stop her from grabbing her love and pulling him up back to the surface of the water. Her broken tail soon became two legs. She gasped as she resurfaced and pulled her love with her, not wanting him to drown. She did not know this was his first change. Arianna pulled the centaur to the shallowest part of the pond near the edge and allowed him to lean on her.
Arianna wrapped her arms around him, wanting to keep him up. "I am so sorry my thunder...I did not know this was your first change...it gets better...I promise..." The mermaid kissed his cheek before using all her strength to pull him out of the water so he was sitting on the edge of the pond. Arianna looked over the centaur and couldn't help but admire his form as his wet body glistened, "So perfect..."
Arianna stood up and wrapped his arm around her shoulder before gently lifting him up, allowing him to lift on her. "Lean on me my thunder...I shall help you learn to walk. Just breath...relax...and take it one small step at a time." Arianna kept a firm hold on his larger frame and slowly led him to a special spot she adored. Within minutes, the mermaid let her love to her favorite spot within The Sanctuary.
It was a small patch of wild flowers that seemed to be untouched; filling the area with its enchanting fragrances. In the center of the field lied the most wondrous of trees. The tree was small, but its purple and red leaves were a sit to behold as vines of grapes dangled from the tree. Arianna knew the strange men in white coats had something to do with this haven for mythical creatures...but they did a wonderful job.
"Come my love...let us rest here.."
Arianna sat the centaur against the tree with his back resting against it. The mermaid stood up and plucked a vine of grapes. She sat down next to her thunder and enjoyed the feeling of her bare body against his own. Arianna took a grape and fed it to the centaur before smiling.
"You have always taken care of me my thunder...now let me take care of you..." She rested her head on his muscular arm and just sighed, "I can't believe this is real..."

Giovanni thought for a moment while he was under water, if he died, it would all be worth it for the one instance when she first kissed him. He could still feel the warmth of her kiss on his lips. He would never forget their first kiss. Then he felt her arms around him, pulling him out of the water. As his head surfaced he took a deep and much needed breath. He was glad she knew how to use her human body. He was looking down at his human body and marveling in the sheer dynamics of it. He was actually sitting on his bum, something he had never done his entire life. It was incredible.
He was not sitting there long before he was being helped up again. Some protector he was, he couldn’t even stand on his own. He let her assist him because, one, he trusted her, two, he needed to learn to use this human body, just in case she needed him whilst he was human. He looked at his feet as they walked. Silly looking long appendages with smaller appendages sticking out of the ends. He had never seen a bare human food and he found it to be quite comical. He sent her his thoughts on the matter and smiled as he concentrated on lifting the odd things to move them forward, much the way a horse would when walking carefully.
He was not aware of where they were going until he was leading against a tree, still looking at his feet. He let his gaze travel upwards to the rest of the human parts that were not normally there. Even as a human, he was quite well endowed, but he was a bit incredulous that, while by human standards he was indeed very much hung like a horse, but by horse standards, he had lost length and girth. He frowned slightly. Not that he had ever had the opportunity to use it, he was after all still a stallion and such things were important. He furrowed his brow and looked at Arianna as a grape was placed in his mouth. All unpleasant thoughts vanished and all he wanted to do was hold her against him. He slipped his arms around her and pulled her against him. She was his now, his dream come true.

Arianna blushed and smiled softly as her thunder wrapped his strong arms around her small frame and pulled her against him. She let out a soft sigh and continued to feed her love the grapes until they were finished. She gently tossed the empty vine on the grass and looked up at her guardian. "This is perfect...you and me here...under this tree...under the stars...I could not hope for more.." She kissed his chest and let out a soft sigh of happiness. "I have been waiting for you for so long...and now I have you..."
The mermaid felt her heart beat faster as she felt these new feelings increased within her body. She had no idea what these feelings were...only that her thunder's touch was helping. Arianna never even kissed a man before her guardian yet, she felt it was natural for her to have these feelings. Whatever the case, the mermaid had been alone for so long...she needed her guardian...she never wanted to let him go.
The mermaid inhaled the sweet air and sighed softly, "So perfect...you are perfect..." Arianna smiled and pulled herself up until she was sitting on her centaur's lap, not wanting an inch of space between their bodies. Arianna enjoyed the warmth of his body and curled up against him, feeling his muscular form against her slender frame. "This feels so good my thunder...I feel safe...and warm..." The mermaid had always felt as if she was cold and lonely...with only the water to comfort her...her home...her prison.
Arianna brought her head up and wrapped her arms around her love before she pressed her lips against his once more. "I am not going to let you go my thunder...never...my heart and body is yours..." The mermaid closed her eyes and kissed her thunder once more...wanting to show how much she cared for him.

Never before had Giovanni wished so much that he could speak. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her and how he would never leave her. He wanted her to know he would always be her protector. He knew he could project the thoughts into her head but he knew it would mean so much more if he could say them. Maybe, somehow, some way, he could show her what he felt.
He ate the grapes happily and smiled when she told him he was perfect. It was her who was perfect though. He supported her with his strong arms as she climbed into his lap, his heart rate increased at the skin on skin contact near his loins. His disappointment in his manhood faded as it grew to new lengths. He pulled Arianna against him as he felt his manhood push against her. He grunted in surprise at how badly he wanted her. He had her heart and she had his, now he wanted her body and to give her his body. He kissed her back only he deepened the kiss and filled it with passion and need. He broke the kiss and moved his lips to her supple neck and kissed her there as his hand traveled up her side to her pert breast and stopped. He looked down at his discovery and gently dragged his thumb over her nipple. It amazed him how taught it became, like a ripe strawberry, and he wanted to taste it. He cupped the underside of her breast firmly and lowered his lips to her nipple and sucked it into his mouth. he swirled his tongue around it then pulled away with a soft wet 'pop'. He looked her in the eye and expressed his deep need for her.
