Justice stood on the top of the wall and watched the pony walked out of view carrying the only woman he had ever cared about away. He tried to be a man for her but he just couldn't be what she needed. She was moving on. He should have known better. Women had always wanted a piece of him and he had always had to pretend that they were getting one when in reality, he just didn't get the novelty.
He appreciated how women smelled but he never found himself wanting to take one to his bed, as a matter of fact, he had always found reasons not to. Maybe he was more broken than he though. He sighed and turned away. There was no reason to watch any longer with her out of view.
He sighed and turned away and almost ran into someone. He looked up and a smile nudged its way onto his lips. "Hey man." he said softly. Oddly, he found himself blushing...

Max watched the man. He could tell he was sad. He knew that sadness. He felt that sadness for a long time. He knew why Justice was sad. Justice was sad from being lonely. Justice was sad because he could not find love. He looked in the wrong place. Max knew where he could find love. Max knew there was only one person in this place who Justice needed. Justice did not need a woman. Justice needed Max.
Max waited for the woman to leave before he went to stand by Justice. When Justice blushed, he knew Justice liked him too. "Hello, Justice. I brought you something." He carried a bottle of whiskey and carton or cigarettes. He gave them to Justice. He did not know why he needed them but he knew he needed them for a good reason.

Justice stared at Max for a moment. How did he know his secret, or did her? Perhaps this was just random. He didn't seem to have an explanation or want one so he simply took the offering, "Thanks man, maybe I can barter for some new boots with this." he didn't exactly lie, he could have bartered but he would rather have his blood be healthy.
His hand brushed past Max's as he took the items and he blushed again. His hands were strong and warm, weathered yet soft. "So hey, you want to go grab some chow?" He asked his friend. "I hear they shot a couple boars this morning." he added to help entice him.

Max was happy he wanted to eat with him. He liked being with his friend Justice. Justice was one of few friends Max had. When Max was really working for the vampires he did not make friends. He didn't have a reason to make friends. But he always liked Justice.
The first time he saw Justice he like him. "Yes I will eat with you." he said to his friend. He wanted to be more than friends. He had a plan to make it happen. He would make it happen. "Come on." he said. He began walking to the chow hall.

Justice watched Max as he began to walk away. He liked how graceful he was when he walked. He wished he was that graceful but he was just a lumbering buffoon compared to Max. He realized he was getting pretty far ahead of him so he jogged to catch up. He grinned as he fell into place beside Max.
People looked up as they entered the place. Many smiled and waved, others nodded and went back to eating. Couples all sat together, children sat with their parents and ate their meals chatting happily with each other. It was a rule in Haven, all children were to be with one of their parents at all times unless they were in the schoolhouse. Justice knew he would never have children. He knew with his genetic abnormality, it would be irresponsible to bring a child into the world. Besides, He just couldn’t find a woman he was attracted to. He would rather hang out with the guys, especially Max.
Max was Justice best friend as far as he could tell. He never told anyone his secret but if he had to tell one person, it would be Max. He knew Max wouldn’t say a word to anyone. He liked that about him. He stepped ahead and grabbed two trays, handing one to Max with a smile. He wasn’t very hungry since he was getting close to the time when he needed a transfusion but the medic was not inclined to get it done any time soon. But now that he had the smokes and whiskey, maybe he could get it sooner.
He just grabbed some bread and an apple and waited for Max to get his meal.

Max noticed the children all around. Children made him sad because this world was not for children. This world needed more people, but Max could not make children. It was too sad so he turned away from the children. He wanted to see Justice and he wanted to eat because he was hungry. He was happy to be with Justice. He saw Justice get only an apple and bread and he frowned. Justice was a big man. Max knew he need to eat more food than that. After he filled his plate with good things to eat he put meat and fruit on Justice’s plate. “You need to eat more my friend.” He said, “Try this, this is good.” He said. He smiled at Justice and put more bread on his plate. “Now you will not be hungry.” He said. He look for a place to sit and carried his tray to the table to sit down. He looked to see if Justice came with him before he sit down.

Justice watched with surprised amusement as food was heaped onto his meager plate. He might have protested but it made his heart swell to have someone care so much about him. He just wanted to grab Max and hug him. Then that thought caused a reaction in him that really surprised him. The urge to kiss Max washed over him. Now that wouldn’t be good at all. That kind of thing was frowned upon in Haven since one of the main agenda’s was to procreate. If he were to kiss Max, one, Max might just kill him, two, he would be thrown out of Haven.
He carried his tray over to the table but didn’t sit down. “Uh, Max. I would rather eat at my place. Wanna come with me?” he asked, hoping that Max would come. He didn’t know why but he really didn’t want to be around people right then. He felt like a fish out of water. The only person he felt comfortable around was Max…
“It’s uh…cooler over there, I think anyway.” He added to sweeten the deal. “And I got that old crank up record player working. I want to try out this record I found.” He waited for Max to decide. Deep inside he prayed to a God he didn’t believe in that Max would come with him.

Max did not mind it at all to eat at Justice house. He would like to be alone with Justice. He wanted to show Justice they could be closer. He wanted to show Justice what he was feeling. For something like this it was best to show it. He did not want to show it where people see. That would be bad. And Justice might want to beat him up. That was ok. He might expect this reaction.
Max picked up his tray and smiled. “I would like that. It is too hot in here. I would like to hear music while I eat.” He knew where Justice lived. He knew Justice was waiting for him. He waited for him to lead the way. He liked to watch Justice walk. He was tall and muscular. He liked how he moved. Now he wish he was alone with him. He knew if Justice liked him that way he would be in his bed soon.

Justice breathed a sigh of relief that Max wanted to come. In all honesty, if Max had not come with him, Justice just might have stayed there and eaten with him. But he was glad he didn’t. He was trying to sort through some feelings he was unsure of. He could have been wrong but Max’s signals were confusing him. He felt as if he would be able to kiss Max and Max would like it, and he would too. That made him feel a little funny but he needed to sort this out and find out for sure what was going on.
He lead the way out of the chow hall and across the compound to his little ramshackle hut that he had built himself from whatever scrap he could find. The tin roof was something that just showed up on his doorstep one day after a freak rain shower had soaked everything he owned. He walked in the door, leaving it open behind him so Max could follow him inside. He put his tray on the little table that was just big enough for two and pulled the chairs out. “Have a seat, I’ll put on a record.” He said with a smile and went to the old record player. He picked up an old Westlife record and put it on the turntable then grabbed the crank and turned it until it wouldn’t turn anymore. Then he flipped the switch and it came to life. Recorded music was a luxury in the post apocalyptic world so it was a real treat to have anything playing at all, but Justice really liked this record.
“There we go.” He walked over, sat down and looked at his plate. His stomach growled but also revolted at the sight of the food. He would try though. The meat, at least, looked good. He began to cut small pieces and chewed them slowly. The way he was feeling, this was not going to go well…

Max followed Justice to his home. It was small but build good. He like the little house. He gave Justice metal to put on the roof but he did not tell Justice. It was a gift so he was quiet. He followed him into the house. He put his food down. He watched Justice put on music. He liked this song. He liked music. He liked this band because it was good. It was a good band. Max sat down and watched Justice try to eat. He could see it was not feel well. He had to ask him but he want him to be comfortable with him. He reach across the table and take the fork. "Force it will make you sick." he said. He stood up and feel Justice head. Fever is bad in this world. Someone can die easy. He frowned. "Justice, tell me. I will keep the secret. What is wrong? You trust me, ok, I will help." he want to help him.

Justice felt like he could trust Max. He knew him for a couple years not and he had always been a really good friend. Right now, a friend is just what he needed. He watched Max with weary eyes as he took the fork and stood up. His hand was cool on his hot forehead. He had not realized how bad it had gotten. Now Max wanted answers. Justice figured he did deserve an answer after being such a good friend. He reckoned he had a little bit of an idea that something was wrong since he had given him smokes and whiskey, knowing that Justice didnt drink or smoke. Max's and felt good on Justice forehead and he leaned into it with a sigh. "Ok." he said softly. He told Max everything. He told him how he was sick and why. He told him what the illness was and how he needed blood transfusions. He also told him how the medic held him hostage and bribed him to keep his secret. He watched Max's face for his reaction. He knew his friend would either abandon him and tell the admiral or the medics head would roll... He couldn't bear to lose his friend, especially Max. He looked away to wait for his reaction.
