'Here you go.' With a 'flap' the canteenlady dumped some sort of brownish goo on her plate. 'Beef stew!' 'Ehm.. thanks.' she replied while shuffling further down the line. Not her favorite today. Luckily they did have fresh vegetables from the Farm. Raine picked some lettuce and added some other vegetables. 'And an apple to keep the doctor away...' she mumbled to herself as she grabbed one from the plate.
She turned around to see if there was an empty spot somewhere. It wasn't very crowded, it was late, already getting dark outside. Most people had already finished eating. Raine ofcourse, had been late with finishing her chores. Therefor she was late with eating.
Her hair was braided down her back and her shorts gave her short legs the illusion of being a tad longer. Besides that she was wearing a simple tank top with a jacket. Comfortable. While doing work outside, that's all you wanted.
She sat down at the nearest table. Not really paying attention with whom she was sitting. She took her fork, poked into the mash and decided that she would start with her vegetables. When she looked up, she stared right into the face of Blaise. 'Ow... Hey!' she said while putting a carrot in her mouth. 'Didn't knew you were back again?'
Blaise... on the one hand she could sometimes strangle the guy. He thought he was some sort of invincible god or something. His cocky attitude could really work on her nerves. But on the other hand he was one of the few who had been to the city and came back again. That made him an amazing information source.

The usual hustle and bustle of the canteen should have finally slowed down. Blaise wiped the sweat from his forehead and smiled at the small child. "There, all better, right?" The timid boy nodded, getting cautiously to his feet, a small bandage around his skinned knee.
Since having returned from a raid on the city just the night before, Blaise wanted to get to work again. He usually served his time in the medical tents between trips, and his spare time was spent on training to keep fit and ready. In his mind that was all that was really needed in Haven, sure the workers at the Farm did their part, but it was nothing compared to what he did, going behind enemy lines like that, and he even had the scars to prove it.
With the young boy all patched up and probably off to skin his other knee, Blaise began to clear his work-space, flashing a smile at one of the female medics, who avoided his gaze. The young scavenger frowned. She wasn't blushing, nor being coy. The woman couldn't bare to look at him.
This reaction was shared by a fair few Havenites, after all a man with a huge slash across his face? It would look pretty scary to most, right?
With a sigh, Blaise shrugged it off and returned to smiling as he left the medical tent. The air seemed to be the same consistency as the ground, and each breath gave Blaise a lungful of dust, causing him to choke as he jogged to the canteen. Grabbing a plate of what he was told was "beef stew" and potatoes(not bothering to take any vegetables other than that) he planted himself on one of the benches, his stomach growling in anticipation.
Just as the raider was about to take a bite of the questionable meat when someone sat right in front of him. Raine. He didn't see her around too often, though he knew that sometimes she helped out the other medics. He flashed her a smile, despite the fact that he knew she disliked him.
"Yeah...Got back last night. We stayed up to unload and distribute everything. Don't know when we'll be called on next."
He poked and played with his food, unsure of its true contents. He liked the fact that, even though she didn't like him much, Raine wasn't intimidated by the way he looked. "Gunna be on med duty for a while now. Spent all morning patching up kids and a couple of farm workers. What've you guys been up to since i left, anyways?"

'What kind of supplies did you guys get this time? Anything special?' Raine asked. She loved to hear him talk about his trips to the City. Not the part about surviving the zombies in the desert ofcourse, but the city itself. She just had to be carefull she wasn't being to obvious about the fact. Altough she wasn't so sure... some part of her thought Blaise already suspected something.
Ofcourse she noticed the scar, it was hard to miss, but it had been part of Blaise for a while now. It wasn't that shocking to her anymore. She had seen worse at the medics tent by now.
She shrugged her shoulders. 'You know, the same old thing we do always.' Since she was old enough she got stuck in the same routine day out day in. 'Some medic work but lately I got a lot of farm work.' Option A or option B for her; there hadn't been a C so far.

"Pencils. " Grinned the scavenger. It was something of a joke to most of the raiders. One of the things Haven always seemed to need was pencils, such trivial things in the old world had now become a hurdle to jump each day, but the scavengers were mostly "glass half full" types.
For some time now Raine had been taking interest in the raids he carried out, and knowing of her dislike for him, he figured it wasn't much to do with him at all, more about the job itself.
The last raid had gone rather badly. Despite the fact that they were warned not to steal from casinos alone, that it was best to have a man watching your back, Blaise's hot-headed attitude had taken over. Food and money had spilled from his arms as he fled from Camelot, owned by Gabriel Kingman, an ancient vampire with a loose set of rules and a hatred for thieves. He had struck it lucky when he dropped the loot and ran for Lust, losing the security teams in the darker casino and strip club. The young man hadn't seen the face of whoever helped him, but he was thankful for the good samaritan's favour.
Blaise tilted his head, poking around at the gloopy mess on his plate as Raine told him about her activities. "How come you don't come out on a raid?"
