Gavin slipped past the disgusting display of over emotional parenting and into the kitchen, "Calm down kid, she was under the protection of the MPS. Mutant...protection...something something" he muttered as he scooted by, "Gran! Gran look." he said excitedly and pulled out two plastic cans that read Cocoa on the faded labels.
"I won a case in a poker game. Can't bring too much at once, the leeches will smell it." he said as he handed them to her. He stepped in to kiss her on the cheek and slipped a roll of credit scripts into her apron pocket."I was on a winning streak." he whispered then stepped back with a wicked grin.
"Got any cinnamon rolls? I'm starving." he complained. "We also found a truck trailer full of MRE's, that's what the boxes said, we opened one up, it was food. I guess they used them in the military before the apocalypse. They were made to last centuries. I ate one, it was good." he leaned on the counter and stared at the overexcited young man. "Gonna hand them out in the Undercity tonight." he added and folded his arms across his chest.
"Is he always such a spaz?" he asked Gran innocently.

She was swept off her feet into a bear of a hug that had her wincing slightly. She gave her brother her best innocent smile. As she tried to pull her self together. "Sorry Adam. " It was an honest heartfelt apology. She may have wanted to get away for a little while today but she didn't mean to scare him at all. It was just a pain in the ass never being allowed to go any where. See anything. Especially when she often drew it from the visions.
"I've been with Gavin. Don't you get no funny ideas either. He's like us. I had a drawing for him. I needed to get out for a bit. I was careful very careful. You can't keep treating me like a little kid you know." She added her voice growing tight. Oh that would not to. She was not going to get into here in front of Ruby and Gavin. That fight would come later. She was sure of it.
She looked up at him and tried to see what was going to happen next. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Damn the bad luck. Guess you only got lucky once a day, even in New Vegas. She gave him a tight hug anyway just glad that even while he was ticked off at her, he was still her brother. Leaning around Adam, she chuckled. "Yea he can be one." She answered Gavin.
Turning back to her brother she gave him a totally sibling look that dared him to defend that statement. He could be a spaz at times. But Lizard knew that he loved her and he worried. More then maybe he should be they were all each other had. It had to count for something she guessed. "Will you listen to what Gavin can offer you? Please Adam."

Adam glared at the man who came in with his sister. " Don't they have any respectable women you could have been hanging out with?" Yea he was gonna stare the man down for a moment at least he was out with his sister. His eighteen-year-old sister. That deflated his ego a bit there as he looked back at Lizard. The squint in his eyes would tell that he wanted nothing more to go into a long lecture to her the reasons why he did what he did but, for now, in front of Gran and everyone else he would do her the one curtesy he didn't think he was getting from her and concede for the argument's sake. Rolling his eyes and nodding to the age-old argument that he couldn't keep treating her like this. " Alright, alright."
Yes later they would have a long talk Adam knew it wouldn't do any good, but he had to do something he just couldn't NOT talk to her about things. His hands came up to his face when the guy behind the counter asked if he was always a spaz. The answer Lizzy gave him caused Adam to growl in frustration at her. " You zip it!" A point of finger at her. God he needed a drink something stiff strong and would calm his nerves. Did she not get the fact he was worried? " You could have left a note." A matter of fact statement made towards Lizzy. Hugging her back finally calmed him down a little more. That look she gave him had him shake his head and laugh some. "Stop Lizzy I'll listen."
He relaxed finally eyeing Gavin wearily his arms crossed in that defensive stance, for the moment, not quite sure what he would make of the man or what he could make of the situation. He waited now for whatever would come his way courtesy of his little sister.

Gavin didn't know what to think. They were getting right down to it and Adam had already taken on a defensive stance. Gavin wondered if it was even going to be worth his time. He had already passed judgement on him and he was deemed a womanizing pedophile who would molest his baby sister who he seemed to think was still a child.
Gavin sighed and ran his fingers through his unruly hair. He didn't really know where to begin and he felt insulted by the remark Adam made. "Look, kid, you don't know me so you should keep your remarks about my behavior with women to yourself." he began, "If I wanted to take a woman to my bed, it would not be a sweet kid like your sister," he looked at Lizzy, "No offense, I am...seeing someone." he threw in just to keep from being kicked in the shins. Besides, he was seeing someone, no one really knew about Sam and his relationship but if he wanted sex, he could get really good sex from her. Why should he bother with a virgin if he could have someone with experience who knew him like the back of her own hand.
"I was helping your sister. She had a vision on the sidewalk and that is not a good thing with VSF crawling all over the place. Since I am the head of the mutant protection society, it was not only my duty but my obligation to help her, not just then but in the future. The leeches have a thing about seers and that is what your sister is." he folded his arms in front of him in an authoritative stance. "I don't think I need to tell you what happens if they find out about her and get their hands on her. It is my job to protect her as much as it is yours since you are her guardian."
Gavin needed to be blunt with Adam and he knew it. He didn't seem to understand that he was putting Lizzy in danger. "My organization can use movers like you, yes, she told me about you. She is worried about you and her visions about you being caught are disturbing. Not only does it put you in danger but also other mutants who work for our cause by pilfering the casinos. She needs you out here, not stuck in some lab. They would turn you into a techa, you know that, don't you? Once they had you brainwashed, you would turn her in. I don't care how much you think you wouldn't, they have ways of making you think it would be best for her."
Gavin dropped his hands to his sides and stuck them in his pockets, "I have a more suitable option for you if you want to hear it. The MPS could use you and they could help you to keep her safe. I can register you both under false abilities, you could qualify for employment under our organization and be safe right under their noses. I can register Lizzy as a biochem, tell them she can turn herself orange or something. I have a Faker would can create the illusion for the auditor. Lizzy will be safe and you will have a real job, helping other mutants like you and your sister." He shrugged and looked at Gran, "I guess that's about it."

Ruby gave Gavin a smile. It was good to see him again and to hear that he had someone. Now if he would just settle down a little maybe he could have a few little ones of his own. "Oh bless my soul Cocoa. I'll whip you up a chocolate cake like you've never tasted with this." She told him excitement threading through her. Flour was most readily available but Cocoa powder. It was more rare then a 100 Carrot diamond. His peck on her cheek warmed her heart and she knew he slipped something into her apron. As always he looked out for her and the ones she took in. "Whirlwind your to much. Thank you."
She couldn't help but chuckle as Gavin mentioned cinnamon rolls. "In the case out front, best grab you one before they go. MRE's? They do not sound like something edible. You be careful down there. There's been a lot of howling going on, is what I hear." She told him with a nod. Most of her patrons ran to the human side of nature but there were a few that were not. They fed her information, as she fed them treats. It was a fair trade. She could only chuckle softly as he asked if Adam was a spaz. "She is all he has and protects her fiercely. When it comes to Liz, he can be." She told him and watched Adam hug the life out of lizard almost.
She was heartfelt glad to see Lizard and Adam reunited. Though she knew there was going to come a day when that young man would not be able to stop his sister from taking off for parts unknown. She had grown into a fine young woman right under their very nose's.
She mentally gave a snort. Being everyone's adopted Grandmother every once in a while left her wishing she had, had a family of her own to fret and fuss over. She remembered something a old friend had said once We have three kinds of family. Those we are born to, those who are born to us, and those we let into our hearts.
Most of her family were the last kind for Ruby and she did not mind in the least. Family was family no matter what. "I think you covered it quiet nicely Gavin. I have some fresh baked cookies. I'll bring them out. Adam, Gavin is a good man. He would never let any harm come to another person with a special gift like Elizabeth's. I know it's been hard for both of you. But, he's right. If those wily Vamps ever got a hold of her they would use her up till there was nothing left. An you, young miss. Your brothers right too. You could have left him and me a note. I do not think he intends for you to stay locked up. Your not in a prison." She added with a level look.
"A note would have gone a long way to ease his worry over finding you missing. Or if you had said something, I would have gone with you. You really aught not be out alone. Gavin is right as well. If the VSF got wind of your talents... " She said quietly. letting that last sentence hang in the empty air. It would not due for lizzy to think she had gotten away with just sneaking off. Ruby shook her head slightly and went over to a cabinet to pull out a container of cookies she had mentioned. "Now if you three don't need me any further I have some things to straighten up in the hall room. I'm only a holler away if you do." She gave them all a warm smile and headed back out the way she came in. They were old enough to solve this little issue without her meddling to much.

((( Didn't mean to leave this thread hanging for so long.. Sorry ! )))
Lizard squeaked at what her brother hinted at. Ohhhh she wanted to smack him. Holy Mother of all things. OK, yea she was a little infatuated with Gavin. Um, what girl wouldn't be. She had eyes enough to see he was a hunk. She didn't miss the tale tell squint in his eye either as he pegged her with that look. Her arms crossed over her chest as a huff of breath puffed out of her lips. Typical Adam. She rolled her eyes at him as he commanded her to zip it. Not likely bro. She knew he would give in. Well hoped he would at the very least.
She accepted his hug once more and nodded as he mentioned a note. Did that not defeat the whole, sneaking out thing. "Fine. I will leave a note next time. I swear it."
Gavin spoke up and her brow quirked, well at least some one was lucky enough to have his attention. Funny thing was though she was not at all jealous of hearing he had a lady friend. Crushes were as fleeting as a rain storm out here in New Vegas. His words sent a chill down her spine. Adam techa. No. That was not in the future. At least she had not seen that... yet. She stole a quick look at Adam when Gavin dropped the bomb of her seeing him get caught. She probably should have told him about it first. But well that cat was out of the proverbial bag.
Lizzy guffawed aloud as Gavin said they could make out to be a bio-chem that turned herself orange. She did love to change her hair color; a lot. That would be priceless.
Her head hung down in shame once Gran started in on her too. She never meant to cause any trouble to Gran. "I'm sorry Gran. I really am." She mumbled quiet sincerely. "I just had to get out for a bit." She admitted. It had been getting harder to stay home and be safe. The last thing she wanted was to get caught though. Or worse her brother to get caught.
She never really gave to much thought to what would happen if the VSF caught her. That whole I'm a big girl and it would never happen to me, way of thinking crashed around her ears. They all were right. She could have gotten into some serious danger had Gavin not been there when she had the vision. Or if instead of being distracted by something else the VSF were paying attention to those that mingled on the streets. It made her feel lower then a worm to think of the trouble she could have caused. Her head lowered a bit further as shame colored her cheeks pale crimson.

Adam felt they had clearly gotten off on the wrong assumptions when Gavin came from left field with him keeping remarks about how he treated women to himself. He blinked a couple of times looking right at Gavin. "Alright." That questioning gaze moved back to Lizard for just a moment. He'd asked if there were respectable women she could hang out with instead of a guy one. However, he could see how that could be interpreted different, so he shrugged it off. Trying to do what Lizzy wanted him to do. Never the less, just keeping his guard up. It didn't help though when Gran sprang in also with her words. Adam started to feel like a royal ass and sighed. One could see he was resigned to the situation with the slight slump of his shoulders. His hand lifted and ran over his face for a moment before he looked back to Gavin.
As the man started to speak he looked at Lizzy and decided to hear him out. Though they had jumped in with both feet, and Adam was willing to do whatever he could do to make his Lizard happy. " Ok, I'd like to hear more about this MPS? You called it? Even so, first I think we both got off on the wrong foot so before we go on any further with the information. " He offered his hand to Gavin in the offer of a shake and reconciliation. " Thank you. I'm sorry I assumed the wrong thing about you. I just worry about Lizar... Lizzy." He knew she hated it when he called her lizard in front of others. He was making a conscious effort to put himself out there for her and the others. Was it a hit to his pride to have to admit he was wrong? A little it would be for any man, but he was trying to be better about that and well grow up, so he accepted his faults and would apologize for them.
Adam was able to better appreciate Gavin for his bluntness and when he went on about his organization, he nodded and listened. Even pulled up a stool and settled down showing he wasn't hostile towards Gavin anymore. Nodding as he spoke a lot of what Gavin said was true, and he looked down. " It would be nice to get a bit of help. " Glancing to Lizzy, he smiled. " I know she can't stay locked up forever, and I need to let her out so." He shrugged. As Gran spoke to he nodded looking to her as she left. She trusted Gavin that said volumes in Adam's book. This clearly meant a lot to the both of them. " Alright, I'll try it. What do I need to do?"
Yes, he knew he hadn't put up much of a fight but, there were so many people depending upon him. Lizzy, Gran wanting him to do the right thing and then perhaps he too could have a bit more of a normal life. Finally, he turned back to Lizzy then and spoke. " Is this what you really want? Would you be happier this way?" Doing the one thing Lizzy would know that he meant business when he took her hand and pulled her towards him and met her at eye level. He never ever looked down on Lizzy always eye to eye in the hopes that he could convey how much he trusted her judgement.
All it would take is Lizzy telling him what she wanted. What would make her happy? And Adam would do it. Though he knew he had habits, bad habits that would need breaking. He would keep working on things as well as wanting to give Lizzy a better safer future. Gavin struck to many of the cords needed in Adam to make him docile. Lizzy was a weakness...one of Adam's major weaknesses.

This is where Gavin always wanted to run. He was not good with this stuff. He was really good at getting things started and really good at getting things done but when it came to the diplomacy and the dynamics of the thing, he never knew what to say once he said what he had to say.
His organization was organized enough. Everyone had a job to do and everyone understood the importance of strict secrecy. It was almost like the CIA. They did what they wanted under the governing bodies noses and if anyone found them out, they eliminated them. Gavin didn't mind eliminating Vampires if they were the evil sort. One less vampire meant one less pint of blood for every time he would have fed.
A mover was important in missions where a vampire needed to be taken out because a mover could hold them, unlike someone without super strength just trying to grab them. They would get killed. No, a mover could pin them down and hold them while they were staked. There were ways of getting a vampire to a secret location where he could be left in the sun and that all depended on mutants.
"You come down to my office in the morning, bring Lizzy. We'll get the paper work done and I'll get you all the details and fill you in on how we work, what we do." he shrugged. "I'm sure you aren't a gambling addict since what you do is not actually gambling other than gambling with your life..." He began to fidget slightly, running his hand through his hair. This was too much people contact and he was ready to go find Sam and relieve some tension. He turned to face the counter and began to look for something to eat. With his metabolism, he was always hungry and if he didn't eat often, he lost weight fast, then Gran would scold him.
