Elizabeth managed to escape. With a bit of skill and a lot of luck, she got out from the apartment and headed out to do a little shopping. She walked along the side streets with her hair twisted up and tucked into a over sized cap that shadowed her face. Her clothing was dull and drab, quiet unremarkable except for a few odd bits and pieces she'd chosen to stick on the lapels of the light jacket she wore to hide her shape. It was getting harder and harder to hide the fact that she was getting more curves. With a frustrated tug she pulled at the strap of her dark green messenger bag. It lay across her body and rested comfortably against her left hip. She never went anywhere without it for it held her pencils and a few colored pastels and crayons. Precious gold to one who drew as much as she did.
The streets were mostly subdued today with few moving about their daily routine. She smiled at a woman in the doorway and touched her finger to her cap brim in a greeting. Lizzy wasn't stopping for bread from Nancy today. She was heading a bit further out and closer to the shops that neared the burbs. Adam would more then likely be furious with her for stealing away but she'd wanted to get him something special for birthday. It wasn't easy to shop for a brother when he never let her further from him then his arm could reach and pull her back. Not that she didn't love him but he was a trifle over protective and it was becoming suffocating to be confined so all the time.
The streets widened as she drew closer to where the better shops lay. Her hand fluttered over jeans pocket that held her bit of cash and gave it a pat to reassure herself that it was still there. There was a little breeze that picked up and gave scant relief to the normal blistering heat of New Vegas. Being a native Lizzy wasn't to uncomfortable in the heat most days. Pulling a water container from her bag she stopped in the shade of a buildings corner and drank from it.
It was cool and crisp as it trickled down her throat and she gave a soft sigh of refreshment. After wiping her mouth with the end of her sleeve she recapped the bottle and made to put it back into her bag. Shouting and the sound of pounding footsteps from the other end of the road she was on had her freezing in mid motion. Her eyes widened and she turned quickly the opposite way and stepped into the first shop door that was on her right.
The little bell on the door jiggled a merry tune above her head as she stepped inside. Her eyes took in what looked to be an odd assortment of goods ranging from clothing to housewares.. Perhaps she was having her own bit of luck today after all.

Gavin jerked his head away from the little blue bottle in tandem with the sound of the tiny little bells above the door of the shop jingled happily signaling the arrival of yet another mark for the store clerk to cheat. He skewed up his face distastefull. “This is not Cool Water, fuck! It smells like someone pissed in this.” He complained and shoved the bottle back at the stubby little man behind the counter. He turned to look at the little being who slipped in the door and smiled at her. His grin was charming and enveloped his entire face.
Just as quickly he turned to the store owner, “Listen you fat little dwarf, If I’m going use my comp ticket for one free item in your store for Cool Water, it better be cool water, not zombie piss.” He hissed. He turned his head and smiled at the girl again before turning back to the frightened little man. “And if you try to cheat that sweet little kid, you’ll be wearing your testicles as earings.” He pushed the ugly little fat guy away and began browsing the other tiny bottles on the counter. “I’ll be watching.” He said without taking his eyes off the bottles. He picked up another bottle and smelled it. He jerked his face away with a startled yelp, “Goddamn Edgar! It smells like vomit and lycan drool! You make this shit yourself?” He exclaimed and set the bottle down roughly, “Well I know what I’m not buying…” he muttered and turned to look at the half worked puzzle books that were sloppily jammed into a magazine rack, “Really Edgar? Really?” he questioned into the air and shook his head.
Something behind the counter caught his eye and a smile broke out on his face. “What is that?” he pointed at the bottle of Acqua di Gio on the top shelf behind the little troll of a man.
“No, no!” Edgar nearly shouted his protest, “That is nothing! Really, that is not for you.” He waved his hands wildly.
Gavin disappeared from where he was and reappeared behind the counter, snatched the bottle and disappeared again only to reappear where he had been standing to begin with. The little man reached for the bottle but Gavin merely disappeared again and reappeared across the store. The store owner tripped and skidded trying to get to the other side of the counter to retrieve the bottle. Gavin opened the bottle and gave it a tentative sniff. He smiled broadly and disappeared once more and reappeared on the other side of the counter. “I’ll take this, Edgar.” He announced and dug a ticket out of his pocket then slapped it on the counter. “Don’t make me report you to the VSF now.” He warned him with a cocky smirk.
“Fine! Fine!” the little man shouted, “Now get out of my store and take that creature with you!” his chubby stub of a finger pointed at Lizzy. “No children allowed, especially with bags!”
Gavin gave him a mock frown but made his way toward the door. "You are so rude Edgar. I wonder why I ever thought I might like you." his voice was full of witty sarcasm. He smiled and winked at Lizzy, "Come on kid, I'll buy you some ice cream." he offered and opened the door then stood there holding it open.

She hadn't taken but two steps into the store when her head snapped up at the sound of a disgruntled voice. The shop owner a rather portly little fellow was standing there mouth a gap squeaking out protestations. Her brow quirked at the beaming smile she was given by the other shopper, his whole face changed in a flicker and warmed before turning back to Edgar and spewing his dissatisfaction some more. Lizzy almost chocked on a snicker before she could stop herself and tried to hide it behind a cough instead. He was rather colorful in his choice of insults, or he must really like smelling pretty.
She had thought that shops closer to this side of the city would be less likely to rip one off and sell nice things. Perhaps her luck wasn't as lucky as she'd assumed. Her head tilted and she ended up coughing again as he told the shop keeper if he ripped .. off that sweet little kid he'd be wearing his private jewels as ear fobs. That was a bit much, she thought as her shoulders shook in silent laughter. Sweet little kid. Hardly.
'Boy was he a disgruntled shopper.' she thought to herself and tried to look about the shop some. Wanted to get out of the way of what ever was going on so she turned away to hide her own grin. Still keeping alert to where the other men were and focused her attentions on some rather odd looking dishes. Their were lines running through them in a odd marbled effect and she blinked when the realization hit her. They were glued back together. Yea, she wouldn't be shopping here today.
Stepping away from them she stopped in her tracks. Out of the corner of her eye she caught the disappearing and reappearance of the shopper. Her head turned back to the men and her jaw dropped open. How did.. The hairs on her neck crawled with alertness and she swallowed softly. OK so that was just not normal.. Lizzy didn't think she saw what she saw. No one could move that fast. Unless.
Edgar shouted his reluctant acceptance and turned on her. "Moi? I am not a creature! Nor am I a child you over bloated swindling toad." She seethed.. not even Damn called her a child, much anymore. "Child my ass" She huffed and turned quickly on her heel. The stranger was almost to the door when she looked up at him slightly curious as to how he'd moved so fast. When he winked at her she gave him a droll stare and rolled her eyes in typical teenage fashion.
"Ice cream.. really? Do I look five to you?" She asked as she flounced past him and unto the sidewalk once more. Lizzy looked left and right checking to see if the hub bub of earlier had past and finding that it did she stopped and turned back to the stranger. Adam would have her hide for talking to anyone but something about him made her wonder if he wasn't like them. Different and gifted.
"I'd rather a coffee, and don't give me that crap that it will stunt my growth either." She finally said after a long moment blatantly regarding him. Curiosity getting the better of her. There would be hell to pay for it later if she was caught but at least she'd know another mutant other then her brother.

Gavin shook slightly with a stifled chuckle. He called everyone kid. It was something he did to every single new mutant that came into his office, even if they were really old, like that Logan James guy that was looking for that Remy LeBeau guy. That reminded him, he really should tell Wolverine that he found Gambit, but it wasn’t a priority. Right now, ice cream was a priority.
“Whatever floats your boat, kid.” He cocked his head to the side and smirked charmingly, “I happen to like ice cream and that is what I will be having.” He let the door go and let it slam shut. “Coffee stunts your growth? I never knew that. Maybe I would be a few inches taller if I didn’t start drinking it so young but I don’t thing 6’2” is short. Do you, kid?” he looked at her sideways and stood on his tiptoes. “This better? Damned coffee…” He gave up trying to look taller and began walking toward the little outdoor café nearby.
He stopped dead in his tracks and looked up when VSF officers went running by as if they were looking for someone. He grabbed Lizzy by her shoulders and pulled her back against the wall to keep her from getting run over. He quickly released her and let out a long whistle, “Someone is in deep trouble.”
“Boss.” Gavin turned sharply startled at the out of breath disembodied voice next to him. “Boss, I need your key.”
Gavin’s tense body relaxed and he shook his head and grinned. “You in trouble again, Clyde?” he asked as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small brass key.
“I plead the fifth.” The voice said mischievously. The key was pulled from Gavin’s hand and disappeared.
“You plead the what?” Gavin looked at Lizzy to see if she knew what the voice was talking about. He mouthed the word “fifth” with his face skewed up then made a crazy emote by spinning his finger next to his ear, sticking his tongue out to the side and crossing his eyes.
“Never mind. I’ll leave this on your desk.” The voice that was obviously Clyde remarked just before the sound of footsteps running away echoed down the nearby alley.
Gavin began walking again, “He is going to lose his license yet.” He shook his head in mock sadness.

Lizzy's brow quirked upwards at his boat comment and shrugged her shoulders in a 'eh whatever manner'. She was glad not to have flinched at the slamming door, today was defiantly turning out to be an odd one. As he went up on his tip toes to demonstrate how tall he could have been, a snigger of laughter escaped her.
"Your really odd. Mister?" she said leaving the last question hanging between them. She hadn't taken but a few steps toward the cafe when he stopped and grabbed her. She managed a slight squeak of protest as he shoved her against the wall.
The VSF thundered past once more. That was twice in one day she'd seen them running about. He let her go just as quickly and she made to look over his shoulder when her eyes went blank as a vision came.
'A man sat at a bar, roguish looking in appearance. His fingers impatiently drumming the bar top. A slender brown bottle at his elbow. The mirror behind him reflected the empty seats behind him. Just as he turned to look at the opened door.'
She leaned back against the wall. It had only been a moment or two since it came to her. Lizzy focused on the stranger just as a voice pleaded the fifth and he asked what. "You can toss your voice as well? Are you a mimic too?" she asked unable to help but be curious He moved wicked fast as well at least it seemed like he did. Now he seemed to have two voices as well.
The fingers of her left hand tightened on the strap slung across her body, as her teeth worried her bottom lip. Perhaps he wouldn't tell her what he was. She'd trusted her instinct's so far but she didn't know him. Nor had he given her a name. Adam would be having kittens for sure by now if he only knew. "Your like me somehow right? Different?" Elizabeth asked quiet like. watching his face closely to catch the lie if he chose to try and feed her one. She knew she'd never out run him but she could defend herself a bit if need be. Not that she really thought she'd have to. He just didn't seem that type. Odd as he was. She needed some answers as well as a moment to draw. Her temples were starting to throb slightly the longer she waited.

Gavin was accustomed to people asking him about his abilities. He didn’t use his abilities to show off, well, not every time, sometimes he did to get chicks, but usually he used it to attract stray mutants who thought they were the only people in the world who were different. Her questions were just exactly what he wanted to hear.
Usually it took longer to get someone to open up to him but with his wit and charm, it didn’t take that much longer. He looked down at the girl and smiled. He bent down, put his hands on his knees, and smiled in a very understanding way. “I knew it.” He said through his charming grin. “I knew you were special.” He always made sure to use the word ‘special from the very beginning so that people would get used to using it instead of saying freak, disability or abomination. “And to answer your question, no I do not throw my voice. That was another special person like me and like you. He can manipulate light and cause illusions, up to and including making himself invisible by bending light.” He jerked his thumb toward the alley where the footsteps retreated. “I am what is classified as a teleported. I see myself as a speeder but since I am the fastest known speeder, I nearly do teleport, although I haven’t tried it yet.” He reached out and pointed a finger at Lizard. “I have a feeling, your ability lies in there.” He said and tapped her forehead once.
He stood up and extended his hand. “I am Gavin McMahon. I am the leader of the Mutant Protection Agency.” He was sure to make his voice sound like a radio announcer then lowered his voice. “Kind of cheesy, I know but someone has to do it and since it was my idea….well they made it my job. So what is your name kid…and what can you do?” he asked as if it was just a natural thing for anyone to have some sort of special ability.

Elizabeth could hardly contain the snort of laughter that bubbled up from her.. She looked at him as he made himself eye level with her and gave him a droll stare. "Special, really you expect me to believe that line. I didn't fall off the fruit stand yesterday." She shook her head in mock exasperation. He must really think she was a complete nit wit to explain the gifts they had as 'special'. As that thought flashed in her mind she snorted with laughter yet again. It died in her throat as he mentioned where her own gifts lay and tapped a finger to her forehead.
"OK Gavin McMahon." She said his name letting it roll of her tongue it wasn't completely hokey like some she'd heard. Fact is sounded down right normal. "Elizabeth." she said and left off her surname just because well trust was something earned not out rightly given and her brother would more then likely strangle her for being careless with such information. He'd worked a little too hard and given up much to keep them from being found. She owed him that much at least.
"Yea, my special talent is there." She admitted, as her brain began to throb in earnest. "And I could really use that coffee.. please." she added. The caffeine would help if she could just get the picture out, any stimulant worked but well she didn't think he'd be likely to let her have a nip of something stronger. Gavin seemed to think of her as nothing more then a kid.. only a few more days and she'd be 18.. and a kid no more. Thank the heavens for that. The corner of her left eye started to twitch and she tried to shake it off but the longer she waited Lizzy knew it'd just get worse. He already admitted what he was and gave up another. She had to draw and now.
Her hand dove into her satchel and yanked out her pad and three pencils. With a sigh of relief she began to scratch out a semi crude picture of what she'd seen. Quickly the details sprang to life on the page.
The man with dark hair and a scruffy looking face, heavy 5'oclock shadow along his jaw. Simple tank top uncolored as it was white his hand on the bar finger in tap position. The bottle sitting just to the left of his tapping finger. The big mirror behind him shaded in lightly grey to give the illusion of reflection. A door drawn into the corner reversed from that it actually was. It was half open with a tall shadow of a man coming into the bar.
The sound of her pencils scrapped along the paper in her hurry to get every detail out and onto the page as she held it like a life line. Her surrounding and present company forgotten for the moment till she was finished. It only took her a few minutes, 10 at the most. Lizards shoulders sagged with relief once her hand stopped. She looked up at Gavin and tried for non-shallont manner. "I see." is all she said and ripped the page out of her book handing it to him. "He's waiting for you, you have information for him that he wants." was all she said and turned toward the cafe once more. Before looking back at him to see if Gavin was going to come.

She was wise beyond her years. However, she was still quite defensive for one who claimed not to be a child at all. Her golden tresses stole out from under her cap, which only added to her childish look, and cascaded teasingly like golden ribbons over her delicate shoulders. It was only then that he suddenly realized her clothing was a disguise to hide the fact that she was harboring the blossomed curves of a woman under her clothing. The little blonde girl, not quite old enough to be an adult yet transforming into a beautiful woman at light speed perplexed the sarcastic man. Why would she vehemently demand that she was not a child yet conceal her womanhood? He searched his mind for the right smartass response but came up with nothing. He stared down at the budding beauty and saw more than a child.
The Great Woman magnet, Gavin McMahon, who was known for his charming smile and persuasive meanderings into women’s beds with the use of his silver tongue and over flowing charisma, was, for the moment, rendered speechless. For a moment, he forgot where he was and what he was doing until she asked for coffee again. “Sure kid.” He stammered. Before he could move the girl was pulling out drawing utensils and a battered notebook that had quite obviously seen much use with the edges of the paper discolored and bent at the corners. Then it dawned on him that she was from the Burrow. It was there that humans struggled to eke out a living. Even with food, heat and water being provided, it was still a rough life. They barely made enough to buy clothing and something more than the basic rations that were 100% nutritionally complete but frankly tasted like dog biscuits and rarely filled that empty space in ones gut.
They still had to buy blankets and furniture, which was incredibly expensive and difficult to come by these days. In the Burrow, they wing it; they wing everything. Their poverty line existence, their faded clothing and hand washed socks drip dry on balconies, thrown over weathered cord or thrown over the bathroom radiator. Their dilapidated furniture, bobble legged card tables and mismatched kitchen chairs, camp cots to sleep on unless one was lucky enough to have a mattress, and concrete block book shelves that rarely harbored books. Their rusted soap-scummed sinks, bare flickering light bulbs, bottom of the line basics, everything rigged, second hand, cast off and recycled, bars on the windows and doors with double locks and steel frames were all things Gavin had come to know all too well.
He realized what she was doing. He had to stifle his urge to say ‘Oh my god, you’re seer!’ because that would surely be a bad thing for her if the vamps found out. They would want to sequester her for sure, use her for their own benefit and twist her young mind. That was part of what he created the Mutant Preservation Society. Not only to make the Vampires think all the mutants were properly registered and accessibly exploitable, but to hide the ones that were the most vulnerable by registering them with nonsense abilities like the ability to smell the color orange then keeping them under the radar. He had to get her out of the view of others, human, mutant and vampire alike. Her ability needed to be kept secret at all costs for the sake of her own safety. He looked down at the paper briefly and knew exactly who it was, “Yeah, yeah, I’ll make an appointment with him.” He put it off with the wave of his hand, knowing that eventually he would have to face Wolverine with the news that he found his brother but completely forgot that he had found him over two weeks ago. It wasn’t as if he could catch him to beat him up though. He folded the paper and stuffed it in his pocket. “Shh, kid, you gotta keep that tucked away until we are in a less crowded area.” A woman who was walking by gawked at the two of them, her mouth slightly agape.
Gavin threw his hands in the air and smiled his charming smile, “Kids and their crayons…” he laughed and shrugged at the woman, “What can you do?” He gave the woman a charismatic wink and rosy blooms ignited in her cheeks as her hand came up to hide the schoolgirl giggle this charming man inspired. She moved along quickly and Gavin turned back to Lizzy. She looked spent. He was gone only a split second before appearing and offering her a cup of coffee. Somewhere in the distance a voice could be heard in outrageous protest, “Hey, my coffee disappeared…damn and it was just cool enough to drink! Barista! Another cup!”
Gavin was concerned and his darting eyes and furrowed brow were witness to that fact. Many people who had this type of gift often fell ill or passed out for a time, “Here ya go Kid, don’t faint on me now.” He pressed the warm paper cup into her delicate hands. “And don’t get all huffy about me calling you kind, I’d call my own granddad that, if I knew who he was.” He took her notebook and carefully slipped it back into her bag, “We gotta get you out of here. I need to know who you are, where you came from and who knows about you.” He muttered as he worked. “Do you have any idea how dangerous it is for you?” He whispered in earnest. He stood up and reached a hand out, “Please, if you value your freedom, you’ll come back to the Mutant Preservation Society building with me. I’ll get you back home, I promise, with all the new notebooks and drawing materials you want, a case of instant coffee too, but we need to talk.”
It was in his authority to make her go but she would just make a scene and he wanted her to go of her own free will. Free will was hard to come by in this new world.

Having gotten the vision out of her system, her eye stopped twitching and she felt much better for it. Gavin seemed a little a off.. and her head tilted slightly as she looked him over. When he mentioned making an appointment with the guy, she sighed. Well he more then likely didn't take her seriously either at least he hadn't called her special again. That would get old quick. It reminded her of the patronizing tones her foster parents took when she was just a toddler. Before they shoved her into the closet cause she drew pictures.
Lizzy drew back as he hissed at her to keep her things tucked away in a crowded area. "Sure.. " she managed to stammer lightly and frowned at the woman that he chose to flirt with, when she giggled. Elizabeth's jaw dropped in shock. Oh My God. Did the woman have to twitter like a sparrow. She regarded Gavin from under her eyelids and shook her head slightly. "You must get away with murder flirting like that." She muttered as he looked back at her once more.
Bits of her blonde hair had come lose from under her cap and she reached up to tuck it behind her ear once more. It was ever unruly and never stayed up. Even with all the gunk she managed to get Adam to by her for it.. this weeks color was currently purple and faded pink. It made her look much younger or so she thought. At least no took her seriously with it so outrageously done. Sometimes people only looked and judged the book by it's cover, with out ever bothering to open it up. LIzzy had made an art of banking on just that.
She didn't even get a blink in before it registered he was gone and back with a lightly steaming cup of coffee. Accepting it as he pressed it into her hands, she took a test sip. Double shot espresso with cream no sugar. Perfection in a cup. He prattled on and she listened with half an ear till he mentioned getting out of there. From then on he had her full attention and made her a little nervous. Walking on the street with a guy was one thing.. going to a closed location was another ball of wax entirely.
"Uh yea. I get the picture. Literally." she told him before slapping at his hands as he took her book and was slipping it back in. "Hey now."
'If you value your freedom' he said and she stood stock still her mouth slightly agape with the coffee in her hand looking at him. Adam had kept her safe for this long and he would still. Damn would kill her if she went off with Gavin, but she'd seen it. It just hadn't sunken in. She could picture the building he was talking about and knew that four pages back in her book it was there in all it's glory... well as much glory as a building could have in New Vegas. They had heard about this Preservation Society and Damn didn't want her involved. Claimed they couldn't protect her like he could. Their meager living and one step ahead of the game lifestyle was getting more dangerous by the day. There was that image of him getting caught by the vamp broad that made her really freak out too... But the choice was out of his and her hands. What was seen was to come to pass, in just a few moments.
Lizzy looked at his hand and knew that it too was seen. She'd only drawn it yesterday. A hand reaching out to her. Some days the visions were fickle things but she was certain that if she took his hand he'd keep her safe and perhaps Adam too. Though he may be really pissed at her, she knew her brother loved her and would at least listen to reason.
"A case of coffee.. you must be loaded." she said as she took his hand.

The fact that she took his hand was her affirmative answer his request for a private meeting. He liked that she seemed sensible enough. There were too many mutants in the world that were, frankly, too unreasonable. He had run into several that refused to be registered when he felt their abilities and personalities combined were a danger to the people of New Vegas. That’s when he would have to call in his ‘henchmen’ to assist him. The best one, in his honest opinion, which made him jealous beyond measure, was Gambit’s hypnotic charm. He was still working on getting that guy to work for him. However, he’d refused until he found his brother, Logan. DOH! He cursed silently under his breath; he needed to stop forgetting that. “Wolverine is going to be pissed…,” he hissed.
He took the delicate hand in his, her fingers warmed by the coffee cup felt tiny in his hand. It made him feel like she was that much more vulnerable. This one needed to be protected but he would not take her freedom the way the vampires would. How he kept her safe, and any family she might have, was completely up to her.
“Hell yeah, I’m loaded.” He scoffed sarcastically. “I’m too fast for security cameras to pick me up. The blood suckers don’t know exactly how fast I am.” He disappeared then reappeared with stack of poker chips. He drew four of the top, handed them to her, and stuck the rest in his pocket. “The trick is to take on chip off each person’s stack. They don’t even pay attention to how many they have until they are getting low or it is time to cash in.,” he explained.
He knew that made him sound like a common thief but he had his reasons for doing what he did. “Look kid. There are a lot of us “mutants” here. Most of them are starving when they come to me or by the time, we find them. They can’t get jobs, most can’t donate blood so they can’t get food and housing, the vamps don’t want anything to do with them, but I convinced them that we could be helpful in many cases. But when they just don’t have anything to offer to the vamps, they are pretty much fucked.” He craned his neck, trying to see the next shuttle that would take them to the Stratosphere. “I know stealing is wrong, but I see gambling as throwing money away and it’s not stealing if its trash.” He led her toward the public transportation stop. He had a feeling she wouldn’t want to get on his back and get there in a couple seconds so he didn’t ask and he was not about to walk that far at normal human speed. The thought made him shutter. “Don’t worry; I’ll pay for the shuttle.”

His hand engulfed hers as he took it and she felt that he was someone that she could trust. Lizzy felt almost like a doll for a moment as she glanced at their hands together before her thoughts turned to more practical matters. That they could trust at least when she told her brother. Adam on the other hand well, she was sure he was going to have a lot to say about the matter. Elizabeth winced slightly at the thought of having to tell Adam all of this and what his reaction might be.
The corner of her lip twitched in amusement as he scoffed at her words. To fast, yea she'd sorta seen that first hand well at least was able to notice something. She never actually saw him move just the fact that one second he was there and then poof... His calling the Vamps blood suckers made her chuckle softly and then he was gone again... her hand just hung in mid air and then he was back slipping chips into her palm.
Elizabeth looked down at them and sighed quietly. Her head shook ruefully. "It's still stealing no matter how you slice the bread." she told him with a tiny frown even though the chips went into her own pocket nonetheless. She may have benefited from her brothers manipulation of things and enjoyed the little luxuries it was able to afford them. In her heart though she knew it to be wrong and that always worried her a little. Survival of the fittest and all that. didn't help when one had a moral conscious. Being morally correct didn't fill your belly or get you a warmer blanket on a cold night either, and she was smart enough to know it too.
"I understand that at least part of it anyway. Useful to Vamps.. Ad.. uh. " She stopped mid speech and cleared her throat. "If you say so Gavin." She wasn't ready to give up her brother to him just yet but she knew that it would come out eventually. "Well I've seen how persuasive you are with the ladies at least." She added with a snort of amusement.
"Garbage collection.. that's an interesting of a way of looking at it." she couldn't help but chuckle softly at that one. He was pretty amusing. She was revealed to hear him say that he knew it was stealing, but it was just life. He was at least honest with her and she liked that. A lot. They kept walking in the direction of the shuttle and she shrugged when he mentioned paying for it. It wasn't like she was penniless but hey, he said he was loaded. She'd keep her few coins for a different rainy day.
"I don't take the shuttle much." she admitted to him as they reached the stop. It wasn't as crowded as most stops could be during this time of the day. Still by the time they waited for one that was likely to change. There were to many people usually on it and it was harder to hide herself when everyone was being jostled around. Adam had always taught her to avoid crowds it wasn't always easy to conceal herself if she happen to see anything.
Mostly she hadn't taken the shuttles as she wasn't allowed that far from the apartment. She was starting to think that she'd stepped into some of that sinking sand and was just digging herself deeper by the moment. "Just how far away is this building, Gavin.. I may need to head back before dark at least.. or.." She trailed off and took one good look at him. In for a penny in for a pound. "I will be in trouble with my brother." she added with a resigned sigh.

Gavin expected Elizabeth’s hand to feel damp and sticky with that cool gooeyness that other children’s hands portray even if nothing is really on it, but he was pleasantly surprised that not only was her hand warm and dry, but much less delicate than he had imagined it would be; it was strong. She must draw an awful lot to have built that kind of musculature in it. “I can’t help it if chicks dig me.” Gavin glanced at his old broken faced watch just as a soft, steady hum filled the air and a small lightweight shuttle turned the corner and stopped in front of them. He grinned smugly with a curt bow and extended his hand toward the door as the driver pulled a lever and the door opening followed a sharp release of cool air. “Your chariot awaits, M’lady.” He quipped with a horribly fake British accent. His long muscular legs that filled out his jeans as if they were tailor made to fit him, took two steps to get him on the humming vehicle. The ceiling was high enough that he had to keep his head slightly bowed. It was a good thing his hair was already an unruly mess. These things were built for people of average height and he barely fit that bill at at 6’2” in his bare feet, making him a good 6’4” in his boots. There were about 10 seats on either side of the shuttle and it was relatively empty, he moved straight towards the back. “We’re just going to the Stratosphere.” He dipped his head to see out the window and pointed at the tall structure at the end of the long row of casinos, hotels and restaurants. “It puts us at the end of the express route; they added more shuttles when the Apocalyptica opened.” He turned and sat in a seat. “These things always make me feel like a child.” He wiggled in his seat, what the ceiling had done to his already mussed hair only added to that effect, causing it to stand up even more than usual. Of course, she would need to be home before dark. She needed to be under the radar as much as possible and to have her wandering the streets when the bloodsuckers were up and about. “Don’t worry; I’ll have you home well before sundown.” He offered as assurance. Then it registered that she just mentioned a brother. Older? Younger? Mutant? Civilian? He didn’t want to scare the kid but if her brother was like her, it meant even more danger especially if they went trolling around in the casinos using powers they may not fully understand. “So, uh…this brother of yours.” He began absently, “Older brother I’d assume?” why else would she be in trouble with him. It probably meant no parents too and that was a plus with fewer people to deal with. “Is he, uh…like you?” he kept his voice low and absent like he was not speaking of anything interesting at all and all anyone around them would hear was murmurs. That is unless they were a mutant, demon or angel, he would have spotted a mutant immediately, angels would never harm her and demons usually had bigger fish to fry.

The cool air teased a lock of her hair out from where she'd just tucked back only moments ago. Liz found herself reaching up to tuck it back once more as he gestured with a bow and silly accent. It made him sound all proper and stuffy. Her lip quirked in amusement as she stepped up into the belly of the shuttle.
Her right hand pulled her satchel closer so as to keep it from hitting the few other passengers as she made her way to the back where more seats were empty. The shuttle, made her feel even smaller and it smelled of so many things mingled at once. A staleness of the human condition living in the scorching heat of an aired desert. Her nose crinkled and she pulled her light jacket close around her as she sat down.
It wasn't until she was settled that she focused on Gavin again and noticed that his riot of hair was nearly all standing on end. It looked as if he was conducting a experiment with static electricity. He gestured toward the tallest tower of New Vegas and she nodded. It was a lot further from the burrows then she'd ever ventured or been allowed to think about going. "It looks intimidating. I can't hardly picture you as small as a child." She said looking up at him with laughter making her eyes crinkle in the corners. His hair was completely distracting her from anything else at the moment. Adam always had his cropped close to his head and never let it get so long. She wondered for a second what it would feel like.
Unthinking she reached her hand towards him and soothed his hair just a little from where it was standing on end over his forehead. It was thicker then it looked and softer too. With a blink she realized what she'd done and pulled her hand back quickly as if scorched. "It was all on end." She muttered as her excuse and looked out the window to hide her blush. The hand that had touched his hair, flitted to her lap where her fingers idly began to pull at a loose thread hanging from her jacket.
She nodded still looking out at the passing scenes as he promised to have her home before sun down. Her brother would be looking for her long before that. She sighed as he asked about Adam and turned to look at him fully. "He's older then I.. sorta like" she added just as low with a quiet shrug. How to explain how he was different but yet the same. After all Adam had done for her and them she was fearsomely loyal to him. It didn't mater that as she got older he became more strict or hardly let her out. She knew deep down that he was trying to keep her as safe as he could. Safe was great, but it wasn't living. Liz needed to be able to breath. To feel and see other things then the four walls of their itty bitty apartment that they rented from Gran.
Gran had helped Adam with a few things over the years and they owed the woman a lot. She helped many fellow mutants though and was not one to tolerate any malarkey from any Vamp or anything else that may come sniffing around. She frowned a moment and decided to plod ahead. "So do you know Gran too?" she asked in a monotone voice as if one was asking if the weather was nice out side or not. If he knew Gran then it was a sure bet that he was as trustworthy as she had assumed him to be.

A sideways look caught the young blonde looking at him like he had grown a second head. Then she did something he was accustomed to but somehow it was different. Women loved his soft, silky, unruly hair and they loved to run their fingers through it but…her delicate hand just seemed like someone caring rather than someone wanting something from him, usually sex. It was cute that she blushed but he blushed too. His ears burned with color and he could not help but smile. He looked away just to save face for both of them. He knew he would like to feel her hand in his hair again. But a subject change seemed a better idea.
Lizzy having an older brother could mean trouble. He knew if he were an older brother he would not be hot on the idea of someone helping him take care of his little sis. Then again, the guy may be amiable enough to see reason and take the help that the mutant protection society could offer him. Especially with the gift that Lizzy held inside her little noggin. “Sorta like…well, we can talk about it when we are in a secure location.” He didn’t even mention the incident with his hair even if he couldn’t stop thinking about it.
“Of course I know Gran. She’s one of the best sets of eyes and ears I have. Not to mention she makes the best banana bread anywhere.” He suddenly looked thoughtful, “Come to think of it, I think she makes the only banana bread anywhere.” He slouched in his seat slightly, “Gran saved my life. She took me in when no one else would. If it wasn’t for her, I never would have been able to do the work I began and a lot of other mutants would have starved or died from the elements.”
He propped his knees up on the seat in front of him since his long legs didn’t exactly fit behind the seat in front of him, and rested his hands on his knees, “Gran’s one of the only good things left in this world.” He turned his head and looked out the window, remembering the woman who raised him in the orphanage. It was not often that he showed any kind of vulnerability. Usually he was just a cocky smartass, but somehow he felt like he could say what he felt so he did. “Most of the people who matter go away. But Gran stays, for now. That’s a good thing.”
He saw their stop coming up and stood up then simply stepped over the seat in front of him to step out onto the isle. "This is our stop." he announced and pulled the thin cable that signaled the driver to stop. He moved to the door and waited for the bus to stop. The driver didn't seem to like him standing up while he was driving but he didn't say a word, almost like he knew him and knew it wouldn't do him any good to complain.
As the shuttle stopped and the door opened, Gavin stepped out and stretched, "I hate cramped spaces." he complained and took a deep breath, "That's better. Maybe next time I can get you to ride on my back. That would be a much shorter trip."

She was rather great full that her touching his hair didn't end up being some really awkward moment and found herself relaxing as he settled further into the chair. Her fingers slowed in their fidgeting and ended up just smoothing out her layered skirt. She liked the patched together way it was made and even though it made her look childish she was partial to it's own style. Elizabeth found her self nodding when he mentioned talking later about her brother. Yes much later would be better. He started to talk about Gran and she was suddenly grinning as he talked about Gran's famous Banana bread. It was the best around. "She's got a special knack for it alright." She agreed with as she listened to him speak further.
She grew a little thoughtful as he mentioned Gran saving his life. Gran managed to do that for a lot of the people that came into her life and doors. She and Adam were prime examples of that. How many time had Adam left her in the care of Gran while making something of a living for them. Gran never seemed to mind and always had some small treat or little job for her to do that made her feel helpful.
"Your not the only one she's managed to help." She told him with a bit of a shrug over such a frank statement. Gran was truly one of the few people that had made their lives so much easier. They would not be even where they were now if it hadn't been for the help they had gotten from the kind woman. That thought made her chuckle. She was kind but she was also very feisty and didn't let no one lead her around at all. If you didn't pull your weight she was there wanting an explanation as to why or she was poking at you till you did.
She glanced at him a odd little half smile on her face. "You know of all the years I've known her, Gavin, I think our paths must have crossed or at least come close. I've known Gran nearly all my life." Lizzy couldn't fathom it, all this time and she must have seen him somewhere. It wasn't like she was never around. She just missed him some how. Her eyes closed as she leaned her head back and sifted through the several hundreds of pictures she had drawn.
Not only did she draw them but once drawn they were always apart of who she was. It didn't matter who or what the picture was about. There was always this lingering memories of each one that she could pull upon when she needed to. Perhaps she'd look harder, she thought as the bus came to a stop and Gavin quiet literally walked over the seats. It made her shake her head at him and she got up to follow.
He was a bit of a goof at times, she liked that he wasn't so strict or up tight about things and seemed to have a good time doing any thing. Looking back at the shuttle as it pulled away she could only agree. Cramped spaces where something she didn't care for either. "On your back?" she asked as they started walking along toward the building.
Did he really intend for her to cling to him while he zipped off. The very thought of it made her eyes widen slightly as her mouth formed a o. "I think I would actually like to try that some day. You move so very fast.. it would be like standing still only changing ones location." She said as worked out what it must be like or at least what she thought it might feel like. Yes she was interested.. but like a bubble it sort of popped as she knew Adam would more then likely not agree to it or tell her she shouldn't.
Her eyes took in the sight of the needle tall tower and building at it's base. It was so much larger up close then it was when he'd pointed out where they were going to be going. The clear blue sky was dotted with a few pale white clouds that just lazily floated by. It was turning out to be a really nice day, warm for a typical winter day in New Vegas but at least comfortable.
Elizabeth slipped out of the light jacket and tied it around her waist. Her dark charcoal tee shirt was much better for walking around in, then being all bundled up. Her messenger back kinda bounced on her hip with each step she took forming it's only little rhythm. "It's not as gloomy of a place I would have thought it to be. Do you go all the way to the top sometimes?" She asked him curious if that was something he did.
